Thanks frosty!

I used Alclad....had some troubles (all my fault) but I am happy with it now. I did end up using some left over yellow wing band decals for the AM Tech P-40L kit and I think they look pretty well-- they are thicker so they aren't transparent at all!

hiya gang !
sorry 2 b MIA l8ly, but i was at home w/ the flu 4 the past
week & unable 2 get online...
brandonp51:
really nice job on the b-25, it looks sharp !
& i agree w/ didfal, it is good 2 have the other a/c represented...
Jeeves:
ur stang & mine r at just about the same point, except u have the OD
antiglare panel done. ur NMF looks better than mine, tho'... i used
tamiya gloss aluminum this time, hope it will end up looking OK.
as 4 the yellow wing bands, if u have enough decal material,
put a couple of layers of yellow on & it will b nice & opaque
w/ no need 2 mask & risk the runs... on my p51d, i painted the bands
using post-it notes 2 mask the NMF, then used decals 2 clean up the
edges a bit & make the yellow less see-thru... that worked pretty well.

luftwaffle:
welcome back !
glad u found decals & good luck w/ the alclad finish.
looking forward 2 seeing that p-51d !

i looked at the Texan kit, it is really basic w/ about 12 parts
overall... no interior detail... either this will b a major scratchbuilding
project, or maybe i'll just let my little bro' build the thing. Big Smile [:D]

have a good weekend, folks !

OK- some progress finally on my Stang-- I started applying decals after taking these....I must say- as enjoyable as the Warbird Decals set is, their 'hepcat' art for INA the Macon Belle is somewhat lacking.... I will probably use the Three Guys Replicas hepcat from their "Alice Jo" scheme as it i much clearer.

Here are some early pics:

Hey folks, been out of the loop for a while on this one but still plan on participating. I'd originally planned on doing an Academy 1/72 P-51B, but I found a set of decals for "Creamer's Dream" so I'll be doing an Academy 1/72 P-51D. This will be my first project with Alclad, hope it comes out decent!

So I have two sets of them and am not sure what to do with them all.....

Sorry didfal Sad [:(]

Burnish the tape down as much aspossible and then use black decal stripes to cover the sanded rough edges.

Any luck on the 'By Request" decals?

Well Jeeves, You could always do 2 kits! [:p Just joshin'! I'm sure that someone will want to do up a kit in T/A markings in the not too distant future in the FSM forum. Smile [:)]

Brandon, I have the Hasegawa kit also. So thanks for the heads-up! Cool [8D] - Calvin

Great job Brandon!

My B/C is coming along.... I am at the point now where I have to add the yellow wing stripes and am a bit apprehensive. I have some decals that I might use....if I go with the paint route I am very nervous that yellow, being as thin as it is, will bleed through under the tape....what to do...what to do....

Great job on the 477th BGp B-25!
With everyone building the P-51D (which the 'Red Tails" only flew from Jan '45 until the end of the war), this is a fitting reminder that there were other a/c flown by the Tuskegee Airmen. My 2 cents [2c]

Thanks Calvin... i'm excited to see how everyone else's birds turn out.

By the way, the numbers on the plane are totally random, so if they're not actual id #'s, it was unintentional Big Smile [:D]

EDIT: Oh, and Calvin... just a warning - watch out when putting on the left side fuselage star insignia (you may or may not have this problem, depending on which kit you use). Even with solvent, it's very tricky to get the decal to fit over the two small "bumps" (not sure what they are) Sad [:(]

Good luck!

ok i am building a 1/48 revell monogram p-51d. I haven't decided what paint scheme yet.. but leaning real hard on the Bunnie scheme. This is my first real attempt at changing the model around... ie cutting flaps/rudders, etc.. I will post pictures some time this weekend or by Monday at the latest.

Here's pics of my P-47D as Lt. Pruitt's a/c who was involved in the sinking of a German Destroyer in Aug '44.
I hope the pics come out this time as I finished a month ago and have been trying to get'em up.

Ok, finally some progress shots. I was gonna hold off using P.E. but I figured "what the heck - In for a penny, out for a pound." The Eduard color set itself is very nice but being only my second set a bit of a pain in the neck. Now I see why people spend the money for the Etchmate sets!

Most of the major parts.

Most of the front office.

The armour plate back.

The instument panel & seat belts (which still need some work!Tongue [:P])

So far, so good! LOLBig Smile [:D] Calvin

thanx 2 everyone 4 their kind comments on my
'Easter BUNNIE' ! Big Smile [:D]

Brandon:
the B-25 is looking good so far !

stuka_69:
this is the airfix 1/72 kit, & it goes together pretty well...
the fit of the join at the nose (rite down the middle of
the antiglare panel) was in need of some work,
so i used a thin piece of strip styrene 2 fill the gap.
there is rivet detail on either side of the join line & i was hoping
i wouldn't have 2 putty & sand... as it turned out, i did...Dead [xx(]
not sure the rivets were there on the real thing anyhow...
b careful when u fit the wing assembly, there may b a small gap
at the spot where the wing section & nose join up... also,
watch the dihedral when u fit the horizontal tail sections...
& if u r going 2 fit bombs or drop tanks, don't forget 2 open
up the holes in the lower wing section before u glue the upper
wing pieces on ...
HTH, & have fun w/ ur build !

Hey frostygirl
You built the same P51 stang that I'm about to start, do you have any tips on its construction that would come in handy which you found out when you were building it?
