Hey all,

If I was looking to join this litlle group, does anybody know where I could get some Tuskegee decals for either a 1/48 P-51 B/C or D?

Cheers
Darren

edit
OK I'm an idiot I should have looked up a couple of posts. So I can pick up the decals from GM, but who manufactures them?

Also, is there a badge for this GB.

Frosty, if the amount of what is in stock is over $10.00 you can go to some order history page and pull just the items in stock and have it shipped, then they can ship the rest when it comes in. It's kind of convoluted how to get there but if you are waiting on stuff and haven't seen that function yet I will post where it is...

Hey if your still looking for a decent P51-d kit Sean i recommend the Hasegawa P51 D/K the detail is of a very high standard for OOB, i only added Eduard coloured seat belts to the one i'm doing now which is not for this GB but for the Ranch GB, i should be finished it by the end of the Month complete with Aussie MarkingsThumbs Up [tup]

Ahhh Old Mrs Kravitt...........How does it go again.................Thats right ..........Come to Kravitts kitchen where you can watch the E Coli grow.......Tongue [:P]

ahhh you are on same time as me are ya? (thinking about the "stalker" statement of earlier)

yeah definitely.. nothing but a few plastic knobs and stuff inside on this one, although everything is cast very sharp and no real errors or machine marks...

I missed salmonella night again? It gives me very colorful dreams... Wink [;)] Gotta love old Mrs. Kravitt and her "walking spaghetti" you gotta spear it early before it runs off your plate!

Ok, cool.
So need PE and A/M c/p to make it approach anything decent.

Time to shop again.

Tweets - it's the same as the regular Tamiya P-51 D with decals for several 8th AF famous planes.. Looks good in the box, the cockpit is a bit sparse looking though. I might have to get some AM bits to spruce it up a bit... thats the one I picked up before the build with just this theme in mind!

Whats the Tamiya 8th Airforce kit like??????

I also don't need to know what the surprise is.
Last night was Semolina night, I snuk into the kitchen and read the packet, note the spelling, Salmonela!!!Shock [:O]
An I thought nappies was due to old ageSad [:(]

haha Jules, you two need to start a grass roots campaign to have AU moved to a time zone closer to mine.... we could have some fun if we were all on at once! (Fun.. like getting banned from the forum haha)

Well I am afraid if my decals don't get shipped soon, my first Alclad II experience will be on the P-47D kit I am doing for the Latin American group build.

Doing one of the "esquadron 201" P-47's from the PTO fame.. (Mexican squadron flying with the US in the Pacific) interesting note they were the only unit of the Mexican AF to play a part in the war (beyond sub patrol in the Gulf of Mexico) ... similar to the Tuskegee airmen they were always the ones to go in when no other squadron would, personally picked to bomb an airfield installation because of their expertise in dive bombing in a P-47.

Here's a link: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0FWK/is_n4_v18/ai_19838758

just kind of a parellel story to the Tuskegee Airmen... another minority group breaking through in WWII... there's a few more stories I read on the internet and all of them are pretty fascinating as to what these guys would go up against and not flinch...

If anyone has an inkling to join that GB there is an open end date for it so no need to rush!

I'm about ready to cancel my greatmodels order and see where else I can get this set of decals... anyone have some leads on an internet company that might have them? I checked and squadron.com didn't have any...

hmmm... that is scary... the three of us stalking each other! Wouldn't that make a great B-grade movie!

Go for it Tweets! I am doing Alclad for the first time so we'll see what's up! I am contemplating going all out on this one with PE, not sure about an AM cockpit, guess I better open up the box and see how much detail there is in it. After the F4F and the Zero I was kind of dissapointed... of course now I know why those two were so cheap compared to the N1K1 I did...

Jules, you are the badge guru Bow [bow], wanna have a crack at it.
I haven't done anymore to the badge design in a few days, pretty sad huhSad [:(]

I'm still going to do the D model, unless I can find a decent quality B/C, but I really wanna do some NMF work on it.
Now sticking with the theme of trying something different, I was going to have a crack at covering the plane in Bare Metal Foil, instead of AlcladShock [:O]
(the crowd gasps in anticipation!!!!)

Would be interesting, seeing as BMF shows more dust than any Alclad finish!!

Right Jules, always a good idea for us to stick together.. harder for the staff to do a take down on us when we are together... Just woke up with that old Isopropyl Alcohol hangover from last night Canasta game...

Not sure which one I am doing yet, P-51D and waiting on the decal sheet to arrive before I decide. Stupid Greatmodels holds your order until you have $10.00 worth to ship, so because the Bf110 sheet is on backorder I have to wait. I mean I paid shipping on both items seperately, I should get them when I want them! Angry [:(!]

Don't know if someone's posted this yet, but Three Guys replicas has a nice set of TA decals... http://www.amtechmodels.com/tgr_view.cfm?Item=TGR48017

all the way from a P-39, P40 to several P-51's, I've been gone for a bit so I am sure someone has covered it but a nice set all the same!

Tweets glad your joining us for this oneThumbs Up [tup]Hmmmm Tom, Tweets and myself Gb'ing together againApprove [^]this is gonna be entertainingMischief [:-,]
Hey Sean if you need a hand with the badge i have a couple of ideas, i like the having a face in the badge idea i think that would be good but maybe have the torso of the airman ( in B/W ) on the left and have the red tail section of a mustang on the right with Tuskegee above and Group 05 underneath with the shadow effect....Just my My 2 cents [2c]

Frosty i have the Hasegawa P-51 D/K kit here so i'll be building the D model, i havn't figured out what scheme to do yet but i'll let you know as soon as i do some researchThumbs Up [tup]

i figured out that i can use the a/c number decals from the academy kit.
since INA, the Macon Belle wore #72, i'll cut off the 2 & just use the 7...

i realized that my clever plan won't work....
the 7 from INA's 72 is a bit smaller & thinner than the 7 on BUNNIE...
oh well, it was a good thought....
