Thanks for the kind words Rick and Marc,

Marc I used a number 11 blade to cut around each of the dials on the decal sheet. Maybe not the easiest way to do it, but it worked well enough. I just applied them and then put some Micro-sol on top.

MarkWink [;)] That's a good idea too. I've had to do a similar thing on another kit, but not on the fuselage halves like that. It's another option for me to use next time the wings don't fit properly.

Last I heard, Nick, it's "whenever," meaning there isn't really one. Good thing, because my build won't be done until the end of summer.

Thanks for the link, too.

Well, everyone is making good progress. I've finally finished mine after being stalled for a bit. Here's some pictures of my Amtech P-40E, in Tex Hill marking. Your critique is most welcomed.

Mark,

With the Mauve kit wing root to fuselage assembly, I encountered a slight gap, but as with the common problem in some kits between wing and fuselage alignments I overcame the problem in this method of construction.

Having assembled the top and bottom wing halves as a one piece assembly, installing the [basic] cockpit into the fuselage, then inserting the fillet behind the armour back plate and by placing the clear part of the fuselage to this and securing with masking tape. This practice tendered to fan the lower fuselage at the wing root seem, where only a minimal amount of filler was required.

This principal I have used on several of the AMT 'Warhawk' model kits as it reduces the cap to about a piece of paper thickness, with less filler required.

I hope this helps a little in any of your builds.

Am I too late to get in on the build? I've finished my Val and have just started the 1/48 Trumpeter P-40B. I have never been in a group build, and this looks like a great opportunity to learn what they are all about. I have a set of various AVG markings, and I am leaning towards the #77 R.T. Smith plane. I only have the cockpit partially done, so no exterior paint yet.

You are not kidding, the stuff from this GB is really great, and looks like a number of builds are in the home stretch. I still have a B (Revell) and a E (Arii) kit in my stash, so like you I'm tempted to build another one.

Finally got all of the joins filled & rescribing done on my Hasegawa 1/48 P-40E. Primed it last night & only some minor touch up needed in a couple of spots. Should have it in the paint shop today for the underside Neutral Grey. Will post some pics when I get the painting finished, hopefully this weekend.

G'day Folk's,

Progress of my Mauve P 40m has the cammo applied with the masking removed ready for the clear coat and application of the decals, the white tail, leading edges of the main wing and spinner cap, where painted first when dry they were masked off.
The white is the Testors 'Boyd Colour' Primer white the Neutral Grey is from the Humbrol Authentic enamel range while the Olive Drab is a mix and match. The blue across the tail is for in flight recognition of Flight Leaders.

Lobbie:

How is the Mauve kit coming together? Any major issues? Have you build any other brand P-40's?
Just wondering.

Yours looks terrific so far

Looks great so far Rob. What colour did you use for that blue? I'm doing a similarly coloured P-40N, and will need to start looking for a blue colour soon.

And, How did you mask that blue/white demarcation line on the spinner? Masking tape doesn't generally like going around curves like that for me (any else have any ideas for this too?). I was thinking of using really thin strips of tape, but thought you might have a better technique.

Mucker,

Apart from this Mauve P40m, I've built the Academy B version, as the mount of Clive Caldwell with 112 RAF Sqn in Nth Africa, several of the AMT E and K versions, a couple of the Arri E's as well as the Airfix boxing of the inaccurate Dick Creswell replication [A29-113 is a blue 'U' and not a red one as most decal sheets have it as]. Along with the Mauve P40n as the mount of Geoff Atherton, the Eduard P40n Profi Pack version [which is in the stash], will one day get built.

Daniel,

The blue on my P40m is Humbrol # 14 applied over a white base, as for the spinner cap, this is what I did to mine:- [The spinner cone is not fixed to the model]. Using blue tac and a piece of sprue [to hold the cone while airbrushing], I painted the spinner cap in white primmer, when dried I used 6mm Tamiya tape using the fine line on the spinner as a guide, I wound the tape around the cone from the prop end and pressed flat.
Using the airbrush to paint this part, I painted fron the prop end to the tip as this gave me a much better line without the paint bleeding under the tape.
Another thing you might like to try is Frisket Paper, this is a clear self adhesive film that printers use and can be found in most art suppliers.

I hope this helps a little.

I put the pedal to the metal, and finished today. I'm waiting for my daughter to come home so I can steal a hair for the rigging. I couldn't wait to post some pics cause I'm going out of town for 2 weeks.

This is the Hase. E model ooob except for True details wheels. I added brake lines and drilled out the exhausts. I couldn't resist that outdoor low angle camera shot that Waikong used (sorry man). Anyway, I hope my P-40 passes muster.

Can't wait to see everyone elses build. BTW... what happened to Steve-o?

Dragonfly-and I thought it looked good when it was just paint... but now...! It really looks nice. I like the angle of the 4th pic.

Hey Draonfly, no problem. Maybe from now on, we all should have the same angle shot, then we can put all of them together in Wolf's website.

The faded top coat looks great - funny how the colors looks so different in different lighting conditions doesn't it? I have a decal sheet in the same markings waiting to go on an old Arii P-40E.
