Great looking P-40E, Dragonfly. I have those same markings of Major Ed Rector on my first P-40. Yours is definately better than my first attempt though. Sigh [sigh]

Building Now:

1/48 Academy Bf-109G6 - 100%

1/48 Tamiya F4U-1A - 5%

Upcoming:

1/48 Revell F-14D

Thanks alot guys for the good words. It is interesting the color changes from indoor photos to outside natural light. I'm supposedly using daylight bulbs, but there's no substitute for the real thing.

Waikong.....not a bad idea on the low angle photo shot. It does really flatter the P-40 for some reason. BTW.... where is Wolf?

I'm here dragonfly... lotsa things going on, nice weather and things to be done. So I haven't spent as much time on the forums as I'd like. I'm also getting no building done and it's depressing me a bit. I told myself that I ain't gonna post until I have something new to show, but no matter how little I get done on a model I can't stay away forever!

I see that there's been some great progress made, but I'm seriously behind in what's going on with this build so I have to do some catch-up here.

Know what you mean Steve. Summer isn't exactly prime time for modeling. But I'm making fast progress, only slowly Smile [:)].

Waikong and Jerry: I mentioned it in the aircraft forum, but I'll say it again here--great builds!

Robert: Looking great so far! Mine will have a similar paint scheme, and I'd be happy if mine turns out half as nice as yours.

Rick: I feel like I'm running a race against you and losingBig Smile [:D]! I'm a step behind you and hoping to prime mine this weekend.

Okay, for as much as I like AMtech's P-40E offerings, I'll admit that I picked up Hasegawa's today at the hobby store....

Was that my inside voice or outside voice talking?

Mark, would love it if you compare the Amtech with the Hasegawa.

Dragonfly - Great looking build mate. It's very impressive.Thumbs Up [tup]

I've been away for a few days so my build hasn't progressed at all. I did have a chance to get some decals for my mauve P-40N though. It's going to be an RAAF kittyhawk as well.

What color do you paint the cockpit? For the RAF version,do you use RAF interior green?

PakNick-40,

Your P-40b in RAF service would be painted in the US colour of Cockpit Green.
These are the FS numbers for the cammo:-
Used by the AVG the colours would be these;
Brown FS 30118
Green FS 34258
Grey FS 26440
Or if you require the Blue as the undersides ;
Blue FS 35414

Hope this helps.

Looks like I'm about ready for some primer and paint.
I have to say that this old Monogram tool still looks fairly decent to me,I guess it's been around a long time.
The wing fit to the fuselage was bit of pain, but I took my time and got it to fit.
I have been very busy with work and other stuff(summer time, you know), but I think I'll get this thing finished soon.

Gary-Did you find on the revell monogram kit that the Fuselage fit was hard?Thats how mine was..

I had a little trouble with the fuselage in that the cockpit didn't want to fit when I put the two halves together, a very small bit of sanding on the edges took car of that.
Oddly enough, I had some trouble getting the exhausts to stay in too.
I bought this kit about 2 years ago,and it has some flash on the smaller parts also.
How long has Monogram been using this tool?

The Osprey book on modeling the P-40 is a must have for anyone interested in building a few P-40's. I usually don't buy modeling how to books, but this one & a few others in the Osprey series is an exception.

Ok, posting pics of the cockpit. This is the AMtech P-40E cockpit, totally OOB except for the Eduard seatbelts.

I completely apologize for the blurriness of the pics as my digital camera is an oldie and simply isn't up to the task of these close up pics. Time for an upgrade, I know.

As I have two other projects dead in the water waiting on AM, it's nice to just build something without fuss. Comments welcome.

Bluriness? I just put my glasses on backwards and it was fine...

Really, even with that it looks good. The IP looks like it came out nice. Try a higher resolution setting from a tiny bit further back. A smaller "subject" inthe shot but might be clearer when clicked on and expanded. Better to see sharp small detail than fuzzy big.
