North African GB "All Subjects" (Start NOW - Finish 31st of Oct)

Geez, I don't update for a couple of days and this build has gone nuts.

I have just read through the last couple of pages of posts here and I just wanted to say that there are some sick puppies in this build

OK, serious question for the experts. I'm going to add Tamiya'a 1/48 Kubulwagen into a small dio with my 109. What color should it be painted, RLM ??? or some German army color?

Darren, I'm not sure of the RLM, but the Panzer yellow used on armor would look OK.

On the subject of ABs, I've just ordered a Badger 100 from the US, being collected by my colleague while she's in New York.

Saving to me over buying in the UK, £60, or $110!!!!!!!

And the goverment tell us the UK is not more expensive?

Work continues on the MS406 cockpit, with the bulk of it now complete, and awaiting paint.

Rick, I'm going to pick up a Campbell Hausfeld compressor at Walmart, either 1 or 2 gal. air tank. 2 gal comes with regulator, need to get water filter at same. Maybe do that this weekend.

Bob - congrats! I am sure you will enjoy your new brush and really grow to like modeling more once you get comfortable with your airbrush!! Rick was right, get a sheet of paper and some thinned paint and practice making wide lines, thin lines.. draw a square on a piece of carboard or something and practice get full coverage of the square with light coats... but don't practice TOO much.. I wouldnt want you getting better than me! haha

Darren - the instructions in me Storch kit for the Kubelwagen it comes with call for DunkelGelb (dark yellow) but on the box pic it looks to actually be lighter than the SandGelb the Storch is painted... so probably the panzer yellow that Rick mentioned, if you already have some RLM 79 then a drop of white or yellow added would probably do the trick...

Tweets - Karl - I've had people ask why the alligators are so mean around here... It's one of those don't ask, don't tell things...

Karl - congrats on saving money!!! After hearing some of the prices for modeling things floating around I guess I can't gripe about prices too much...

Hi. I've got an ME-109 that I really want to build in an african camo pattern. Could I join your build?

Bob I ditto the 2 gal tank idea... it also allows you a little more reserve for those "quiet moments" when the compressor would bug somoene... I can usually get about 15 to 30 min of spraying out of my 2 gal tank with the compressor off, which is enough to do all the interior pieces in one color, the interior of the fuselage done, and still have a little left over for touch up...

(ok, it's just a stick with some foil wrapped around it but don't tell him, he hasn't realized it yet - he gets a little insecure when you talk about his sceptre)

Ok I forgot to update yall... today was the first of 3 days vacation... I got the fuselage closed on the Ju87... after painting I was really happy with the way the interior looked... an Ultracast seat would have set it off (if they make one) but like I said this is a 'keep me busy while the black primer on my P-47 cures' build... so stricly OOB.

In retrospect I take back my maligning of this kit as a "ProModeler" Monogram kit... it is every bit as detailed as the Ju88 kit they put out. which also suffered from a promising cockpit with very plain seats...

Tonight I hope to have the wings on and reprime it and a base coat of Vallejo in the morning...

Trouble is the scheme called out for the Ju87 from the N Africa campaign has the same splinter camo as the European Stukas of the time. I did a little digging and found one from the same StG with a RLM79 fuselage and RLM65 lowers...



This is a Stuka of II/StG, Libya 1941. May be the scheme I pick.. there were some more elaborate ones I found but I haven't got my HP-CS in yet.... need something more detail suited for that... hopefully by the weekend though!!

Oh yeah Jules - I noticed you took my Ju87 off... I am still doing it as well as the Martlet!

Tom, the NA Stukas all started with the European Splinter scheme & were field painted in many variations of the RLM 79/80 scheme. Many just had a sort of random overspray of either RLM 79 Sand or Italian Sand Yellow with part of the splinter still showing.

I still have not started the bf-109. This blasted "school" thing gets in my way mon-friday and I get no time to work. Thrwo in tennis and pop- all my time vanishes.

Tanky, either give up school or tennis. Maybe give up both. Then you would have lots of modeling time .

Rick - thanks!!! that makes things easier.. and a little bit more interesting... might try that in a paint job although its a lot more time than I was willing to give this kit... but it definitely would be interesting.,. (splinter with a mist of RLM79 on top)

Tweets - yeah he has to be careful where he is waving that thing though... Actually I thought I heard him singing "My friends they call me Speedo, but my real name is Mr. Earl" not sure what the "Speedo" thing was about...

Stipp - looking good! I see you pefectly crafted Kremps limo... (ok you're fairly new to all this but read back, you;ll see the Kremps connection) Actually she has followed us over 4 GB's so far... talk about looking for love in all the right places!!!

Tanky - just drop out of school and become a "professional" modeler... I know on career day most kids at the public school near me write they want to play video games professionally... why not you???

Rick yeah "Kemps" loves the Scepter she was with me when i saw it in the lake during one of our afternoon walks around the grounds at Happy Acres, She saw that it was special so she threw all of her 300 pounds into the lake to retrieve it for me and i have to tell you she looked like the "lady of the lake" handing me Excalibur that afternoon
