YOOOOOOOWWWWWCH!!!! I just stabbed myself with my X-acto knife. I was masking away at a canopy, I put my knofe down, and it slowly rolled of my workbench, and well you can guess the rest. It didn't embedd itself too deeply in my led though... It's still bleeding though. Damn knife...

In case you haven't noticed Tom, the excruciating pain in my leg has made me drop the accent.Wink [;)] And as to your comments in the AB forum, I didn't get the part, and I wish it was the second reason...

Tanky, I've done the same a couple of times. Most modelers have a few scars from their labors.

Tom, Looking forward to seeing the Stuka.

Darren Yeah mate i've changed my photobucket account, gotta go to work in a minute so i'll fix it up this arvo........

Tanky Hmmm stabbed yourself eh, Kremps Sticks a cork on the end of Toms knife and fork whenever he eats to stop himself accidentaly poking his eye out, maybe we could get her to put one on your modelling knifeThumbs Up [tup]

Progress report::::: To start with i'm changing the livery on my 109, instead of a 109F/4 in JG 27 livery i'm going for a 109 G2/R1 Trop in the markings of JG 77, i just figured that JG 27 was pretty well covered already.....
Anyway i had 2 hours of uninterupted airbrushing time last night and managed to get the preshade in RLM 66 on all three of the 109's i'm currently working on, the plan for tonight is to paint all the underside colours on the three Messerschmitts, gonna start with RLM 76 for the red nosed F/4 then rinse and RLM 78 for the G/2 and then the RLM 65 for the Emil..........
BTW i've taken some pics but i have to wait until i finish the film, i've started using the Pentax cause the digi cam is broken.....

Edit:::::: forgot forward slash in bold

haha hard to move your lips like that when they are curled in agony maybe? I've been fortunate, my Xacto rolls off the desk once a day at least... never had a problem... of course I am usually wearing boots...

Got the underside of the stuka painted RLM 79 and waiting till tomorrow to do some more small assembly and put the topcoat on.

Here's some shots I have been looking at for the scheme, of course the plain RLM 79 scheme would work well for early campaign... but I was thinking a litlle more elaborate... my AB could do most of these:

here is where I got them: http://www.afwing.com/gallery/ju87.htm

and here are the ones I like:

The first two are a tie for first place:

I like the next one because of the subtle tan over a splinter scheme.

This one is a close second, easily masked off... undercoat of green then mask and spray the tan//

Tanky I feel your pain, I did the same thing last week!

I do the panic thing as well when people start quoting RLM numbers, as I'm forever getting them mixed up!

Progress Report

Having said that I'd finished the cockpit on the MS406, I haven't. I was looking at some photos of the real thing, and realised that the head rest was too low on the kit item, and missing several support tubes and a headrest cushion.

After rooting around the spares box I came up the Hasa Hurri armoured head rest from the BoBGB, cut it down and installed it along with some brass wire bent at various angles to represent the frame work behind the pilot's perch.

I also drilled out the air scoops either side of the engine, as well as removing the tail plane strut mounts from the tail plane.

Why remove the strut mounts? because if I built them as per the kit, the struts would have been attached to the elevator and not the stabiliser itself!!!!!!!

All in all slow progress, but it's getting there, and I'm enjoying it too.

I'll post some pics later this week.

Karl

Tanky I copped a knife in the foot a few times too before inspiration struck. I taped a toothpick to the end of the handle with some masking tape, an it hasn't rolled off the desk since. Now the only time I get a knife in the foot is when I drop the thing.......

Tom All three of those schemes look great. If I were to choose, I'd go with number 2. I just like it because it's different to the usual NA schemes you see. And it looks very cool anyway.

Karl Sounds good, looking forward to seeing some pics.Thumbs Up [tup]

:::progress report::: None to report actually....all my attention is going to my SBD for the midway GB. I'll have that finished soon so I'll get back to my 109, which is just about finished anyway.

Tom 4/22/1836
Americans have 22 months in a yearConfused [%-)]
Never could figure out why they put the month first.
As for camo schemes, I'd go with the first one, looks a little harder to get the feathering rightWink [;)]
Should be a cinch for you Tom, now you've got the Gucci a/b and allWink [;)]

As for knife wounds, my worst was last year when I slipped, and sliced into my thumb.
Took 4 stitches to close her up.
That Sabre cost me more than money I tells ya.

If I play my cards right, I should be onto the 129 by the second week in MayParty [party]!
I had a quick play around with the fuselage halves, and Jules is right, no point detailing, you cant see naff all of the c/pit anyways.

Also to add, given my lack of time, I may only be able to squeeze out the 129 for this buildSad [:(]

On a lighter note, I have managed to pick up the CMK Merlin engine set for my Spit VIIIBig Smile [:D]

It doesn't apply here, but had to tell someone, the misuss couldn't give a ratsSad [:(]

fyi-superglue can and has been used in cases where stiches probably should have been applied. However, time at the emergency room is time away from modeling Big Smile [:D]

Fellow 109 fans, I have noticed in my limited references that my entry is supposed to be a Me 109F2-Z and what i have is a G4. Other than some minor panel line differences what would I need to do to convert this airframe into an "F"? Any help would be very helpful.

Thanks

wow --- everyone took the weekend off from posting and makes up for it here! I hope it all gets covered...

Jules, you were posting that about the corks the same time as I last night so it slippped by me. I thought we made a deal not to tell so as not to insult my manhood anymore than Kremps has already done??? Wink [;)]

Tanky - diversification is the key! Wink [;)] actually I never was a trueblood Badger person even though I owned one.. the right airbrush for the right job in my opinion... I'll still use the Badger, the Iwata will be there for certain jobs though.

Tweets - we have to have 22 months over here to keep up with the modeling you guys down under do in only 12!! Wink [;)] Actually I am used to that format too from being married to a S. American, the only one that ever tricked me up was the Germans with the periods between the numbers (22.4.1836) and the period instead of a comma in a monetary amount. 23.000 Marks etc... (looks like twenty three point zero to me, not twenty three thousand) I wondered how stuff was so much cheaper over there when I went the first time!

Rick - Daniel et. al. - I think I might tackle the #2 pattern, very interesting to see the splinter camo under the tan... just need to figure out what color that is... it isn't sandgelb from the comparison to #1.

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] Tweets I like the first one too, Tom Isn't your Stuka a B/2 cause the second one that you and pingy like appears to be a later model maybe a G
BTW Sean Yeah the pit is tiny eh, and once the canopy is on you won't be able to see bugger all...Check out how far down the nose the instrument panel is, even with the canopy open you still wouldn'r see it.......
Tweets where did you score the Merlin fromQuestion [?] i'm looking for one to replace the engine in the ICM Spit MK VIII........

Karl good to see that your enjoying your buildBig Smile [:D]Looking forward to seeing some picsThumbs Up [tup]Iv'e had a good couple of days, managed to get about 5 hours work done on the 109's with no problems arrising at all so i've been enjoying my builds as wellThumbs Up [tup]

Matt I can't be sure so you may want to check with Rick but from what i can tell the most noticable differance is the canopy, the F has the same canopy as the E but the G has a differant canopy with a larger strut in the middle......
Y'Know "Marsielle" flew a G in the desert as well as an F, both carried the yellow 14........

Pingy Mate a quick Question [?] The RLM 79 you used on your 109, was it a Gunze colourQuestion [?] and if so What number is it...I have here Gunze Sangyo H 66 RLM 79 sand Brown but underneath that it says RLM 79 Sand Gelb...It's way to dark but i normally have to lighten most of the Gunze i use anyway...............

Jules - the conversion chart I have lists 66 as RLM79 Sand.. Sandgelb is the official name for it... but after seeing a color chart of it it is WAY too dark! And on this chart it lists it as Sandy Brown:

http://www.plastikmodell.de/html/gunze_color_chart.html

number 9 on this chart of vallejo colors is closer to what I have for Sandgelb RLM 79

Jules My colour was a custom mix using Tamiya paints (I used mostly desert yellow mixed with a bit of yellow and white). I think that H66 is an equivilant for the other version of RLM 79 called sand brown (for some reason there were two different versions apparently).

Looking at that chart of Tom's, 66 is way too dark. But then again, the RAF middle stone shown on there looks like a dark brown too, but I've used that and it was perfect. You might just have to lighten it a bit.

RLM colours are too confusing......crazy Germans.Tongue [:P]

Jules I got the Merlin engine from eBay mateWink [;)]

Gotta love that site.
So far I have picked up 8 aftermarket specials, and all have been fantastic.
The P51A I just got was an eBay special, and was DIRT cheap tooBig Smile [:D]

and YES, I am a cheap bugger, but thats why Kremps likes me and not you guys.

Thrifty is the key to her heart kids!!!

Otherwise you could get the engine from Squadron.
http://www.squadron.com/ItemDetails.asp?item=CZ4102

The 61 engine was used in the Mk VIII also, I checked that before I bid on it

Will be a little extra work, but will look a bucket better.

Thanks for your help with the RLM 79 FellasThumbs Up [tup] I'll use Gunze No 66 as a base and make a custom mix out of it, thankfully i have a destroyed 109 that i originally painted with Aeromasters RLM 79 years ago and that colour was spot on out of the bottle so i can compare my mix to that.............

Ebay eh Tweets i remember you telling me about other goodies that you scored on ebay, what section of it do you look under for model stuffQuestion [?]

It's under Toys & Hobbies, Model Building, Air etc

I'll tell ya what Jules.
When this engine gets here, probably late next week (onya Aussie PostSad [:(]), if it looks like to much of a chore to fit, I'll send it to yaSmile [:)]

I have a kinda strange feeling that it suits the ICM kit more than the Hase, seeing as CMK's other stuff is made for the ICM kit.
