wow... no activity for the longest and BAM!!! everyone hits at once!!

Bob - congrats! I am sure you will enjoy your new brush and really grow to like modeling more once you get comfortable with your airbrush!! Rick was right, get a sheet of paper and some thinned paint and practice making wide lines, thin lines.. draw a square on a piece of carboard or something and practice get full coverage of the square with light coats... but don't practice TOO much.. I wouldnt want you getting better than me! haha

Darren - the instructions in me Storch kit for the Kubelwagen it comes with call for DunkelGelb (dark yellow) but on the box pic it looks to actually be lighter than the SandGelb the Storch is painted... so probably the panzer yellow that Rick mentioned, if you already have some RLM 79 then a drop of white or yellow added would probably do the trick...

Tweets - Karl - I've had people ask why the alligators are so mean around here... Wink [;)] It's one of those don't ask, don't tell things...

Karl - congrats on saving money!!! After hearing some of the prices for modeling things floating around I guess I can't gripe about prices too much...

Rick, I'm going to pick up a Campbell Hausfeld compressor at Walmart, either 1 or 2 gal. air tank. 2 gal comes with regulator, need to get water filter at same. Maybe do that this weekend.

On the subject of ABs, I've just ordered a Badger 100 from the US, being collected by my colleague while she's in New York.

Work continues on the MS406 cockpit, with the bulk of it now complete, and awaiting paint.

OK, serious question for the experts. I'm going to add Tamiya'a 1/48 Kubulwagen into a small dio with my 109. What color should it be painted, RLM ??? or some German army color?

Hey all-the Paasche H set has been ordered from Dixie Art. I am really thankful for all the tips & info regarding this process. Once it gets here, I have a Monogram Zero to practice on, finish the SBD-2 for Midway GB and then onto the F6A for this one.

Sean, based on the info in the AM instructions, the F6A is a p-51A with camera peering out the left rear window. Nothing more, nothing less. In fact, the F6A kit comes with the left rear window (without cutout) from the P-51A. But by the time you purchase decals & make/buy a camera & window cutout, the new kit may be a better course of action. Then you have the P-51A for another GB!

Daniel&Bob Thanks for the info, might be a little harder to change the 51A to the F6A than I thought.
Be alot easier to buy the kit to suit.

Surely someone used the 51A in North Africa, they couldn't ALL have been the F6A's.

Here are a couple of links that I stumbled across while researching the RAF F6A.

I have the Acc. Min. kit but I haven't decided which version, USAAF or RAF I'm going to build yet. Based on the Acc Min instructions, I don't have to decide till after the OD goes on, contrary to the pics on the 225 Squadron web site. Let me know if you need any specifics from the instruction sheet.

The F-6A's were converterts from P-51A's. I think the main difference was the camera installed in the rear windows. They were slighly bulged and had a hole in them to house the camera. Then there's the camera that goes in behind the pilots head. There's some pics of it on the DVD I sent you a few weeks ago.

Could someone gimme some help.
How difficult would it be to convert AM's P-51 Mustang to the F-6A Mustang that served at the very end of the NA conflict???????

I just received my Accurate Miniatures P-51A, and would like to do this one hopefully instead of the 109, just for something different, but need info on mods required and somewhere to source decals from.

Any ideas?????

Bob I started with a Badger 200 single action A/B a couple of years back. Easy to use and and clean, and a good brush to learn on.

A year later I moved onto a Thayer and Chandler Omni 4000, which I now use for just about everything. It's double action, and equally as easy to clean as the 200, even if it does require a little more practise to get the best from.

I'm about to order a Badger 100G for detail work as I find the 4000 a little too bulky with that big colour cup on the top for the fiddly bits.

ABs really are a matter of personal choice, but I can't imagine you'd go far wrong with any of the brushes mentioned , especially not the Badgers.

Bob - both airbrushes are good... I have the 155 myself and love it... from wide coverage down to tight detail it does it all.. I plan on buying an Iwata HP-CS soon as I want something that does a little tighter detail, for example some of the squiggle German camo....

Basically either would work... there are some that say there is no beginners airbrush... start out with what you think will do the job for you and learn to use it from the first... you will only get better with practice...

The other part of the crowd says start out with a simpler single action learn to control the movement of the brush and the basics of how to spray then move into a double action and learn to control the paint flow.

I am one of the first group, I started many yrs ago with a Badger 350 single action external mix, then came a 15 yr hiatus. I tried a 350 again and didn't think it performed as good as I wanted so immediately (same week) got a Badger 175, and 2 weeks later a 155... So basically I came back to modelling on the 155... every time I spray I learn something new about controlling it or some little trick that makes me better... personally I have not been ashamed of any painting I've done with it from the first time I broke it out...

What Rick said is true too... the single action is easier to use and control, not sure how much easier it is to clean as I have been with my 155 for some time now and it is a 3 or 4 min cleanup... but either will do you good.

I think you'll just have to decide which sounds more appealing to you.,.. learning on a single action, then after you reach a level of confidence graduating to a double action... or starting on a double action and accepting some sort of a learning curve until you get it down...

either way you have all of us to come back to with questions and we're more than happy to help out!!! There's a lot of talent in this GB alone... I am sure either way you will learn at an accelerated pace compared to someone on their own trying to learn airbrushing!!!

On a more serious note.... The Paasche H is a single action, syphon feed AB that's been around for decades. It's the only AB I used until about a year ago. It's inexpensive & very easy to use & clean. With practice & a little skill, it can do almost anything the fancier AB's can do. But the key word is almost. My newest AB is the Badger 100LG with the medium tip. Gravity feed, Double Action. Takes more practice to use well & is more difficult to clean. But it is a truly excellent AB & is quickly becoming my favorite. I have never used the Badger 155, so I can't compare them. The Paasche H can do 90% of my work very well, but the last 10 % is better handled with the Badger 100LG. I also have an Iwata HP-CR Revolution which is an excellent AB, but the Badger outperforms it, at least in my hand. If you do opt for the Paasche H, I'm sure you will like it, but buy the kit package with the #1,3 & 5 tip/needle assemblies. You really don't need the #5, but the #1 & 3 are essential.

I'm still sitting here laughing Rick... and I even peeked at it at work today but didn't have time to comment and it still has me laughing. that's a classic... That was a pic from Kremps younger years... back when she was working the Broadway circuit... She had just got a part in West Side Story but decided it needed some creative interpretation for her to feel right in the part... well you see what happened!

Tweets... that's not a g-string she was wearing, more like a braking chute from an F-5... !!!!

I'm not sure anything I can say beyond this would do anything from detract from her beautiful physique and finely chiseled (okokokok.. finely kneaded, as in bread dough) features!!!
