I have futured, now I'm just doing an oil wash. then decals, flat coat and then add some pieces and the plane is done. I have to take care of those pesky missiles though.

Looks like I'll get to spray the BMF on the Mig-21 after the Superbowl is over, I hope that I'll be able to get it all finished by the 10th.  All I really have to do is the paint, future, decals and weathering.  Only a small bit sub-assemblies to finish and then my Mig-21F-13 will be done!!!

I hope I make ti by the end date! I hope to have future sprayed on saturday at the latest. then I can spend the whole weekend (aka Sunday) decalling. After that just flat coat and everything else is assembled already, so it should be quick after that.

Well the Mig-21 is basically put together, I have sprayed a primer coat on to check the finish (from all the filling/sanding around the intake and wing roots) and hopefully this weekend I'll get to spray the NMF coats and finish her up.  I really love the looks of this little delta!!!  Hope to shoot some pics of my progress soon!

Drooling...Drooling....still droolong.....and....done.

I painted my MiG-3 white, now, im just waiting on some gray paint and i should be able to finish up quickly. That is, after i get that nasty gunk off my plane that I got when i masked it off with duct tape. ( I learn by experience, not by reading of following directionsWink [;)])

Oh, and I must mention: FREEBIES!!

Someone on my block was throwing these out, So i decided to pick them up. Now, before you start plotting my untimely death, I must tell you that these kits were already half buit, without the built parts being included. nevertheless, I was able to salvage some things, and they are displayed here on a patented sergei insta-rama:

Thanks Matt.  It's the Academy 1/48 Mig 21 kit with an Aires resin & PE interior.  There were no major fit problems, but some surgery was required to fit the Aires parts.  The only fit problem with the kit was at the wing root join to the fuselage.  The Mig should have about 3 degrees of anhedral & the kit gives you about 3 degrees dihedral out of the box.  Putting the wings in the correct position caused some gap at the join, but was easily corrected with a little filler & sanding.

Rick,

Sweet looking 21!!!  You have given me that extra boost of inspiration to jump on mine tonight.  I will be finishing it in total BMF, hope that it all goes together smoothly!!

What scale is your Mig 21?  Did you have any fit issues, I know that my 1/72 is falling together pretty well so far.

Thanks for the looks, its great!!!!

Finally finished the Mig 21, well before the deadline.  Well... the extended deadline anyways Smile [:)].  The kit decals proved to be pretty much unusable ( Thanks Academy, nice kits but your decals suck).  Didn't have any AM sheets, so had to scrounge from my spares stash.  The markings are not fully correct, being for WWII vintage, but pretty close.  Overall, this was a fun build & I learned a bit about the Mig 21 from the research for the build.  Can't ask for much more.

Regards,  Rick

Great looking builds.  I love the looks of the 23 and 27!!!  I really like the clean look that you did on these, but I think that they would look just as awsome if they were dirtied up just a bit!!

Great looking builds!!!!

Tanky - think that if I try to squeeze another build in it will be the RoG 1/72 Mig 21F-13 that I picked up the other day.  Am going to start on it tonight, adding to the pile of the started kits on my bench!!

Here are mine, finally done!  Kept the weathering light in the name of simplicity - these are the first completed projects in almost a year due to the move, so I wanted a way to ease back into the swing of things:

wow!!! Terrific work!!! You're even better at this than the other kind of planes. Smile [:)] My su-27 now has its camo complete and exhaust areas for the most part painted. i've also assembled 7 of 8 missile and fully assembled all landing gear. I need to fiish the exhaust areas, and paint the wheel wells then future and on to decals.

Well with the Holiday distractions finally over, I've been able to get back to modeling.  Finally got the Mig21 out of the paint shop.  Now on to decals Smile [:)].

well, it's a good thing the deadline got moved after all as I'm not QUITE done.  Here on the original deadline, I've pretty got most of the building and painting done (the MiG-27 is done - the MiG-23 is getting it's landing gear doors added and missiles painted).

I've got some weathering to do - I don't think I'll do too much, probably just some accent with a graphite artists pencil.  Hopefully i'll have some pictures this weekend

Tanky, it now shows as Feb 10 on the title screen, but still shows as Jan 10 on some of the unedited posts.   Kinda glad you extended the date as I won't be done by Jan 10.  Have made some progress, believe it or not.  Now have 2 colors on the Mig Smile [:)], but it's a 5 color scheme Sad [:(].  Should have some pics in a few.

it is now, I think that for a while there it was showing on page 1 but not on the other posts, but it sure is now.  It could be that I am going blind though, I have been working with the Eduard PE set for my Flanker(1/72 scale) and am still a bit cross eyed.

this is a pic of the scheme that I am attempting to duplicate - I am going to use a ton of tape to mask this one!!!

oh yes - i guess that this is the Red Star GB - maybe I'll just have to get another Flanker to do like this and put some big red stars on this one Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

BTW - what is the best way to polish a molding seam out of clear plastic?  My RoG Flanker has this great line running smack down the middle of all the canopies. Banged Head [banghead]

I changed it to February 10. Is it not showing up?

If it is in Ukrainian lovery make sure it still has big red stars! Smile [:)]

Tanky - is this group build finishing on the 10th of Jan or the 10th of Feb?  if it is Feb I might be able to add a Su-27 done up in Ukranian livery.  If it is Jan 10 then of course I will not!!! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I'm still kicking!  Between travel for thanksgiving, a 2 1/2 week work trip, and then home for the holidays I haven't done much on my Floggers - but they're pretty close to done.  They have decals and flat coat, and I've been tinkering with things like landing gear doors and the like so I think I'll be able to wrap it up by the 10th.

Still haven't decided how much weathering to do.  Maybe just some pastels or something, considering I've got a 1/48 Prowler I'm working on too that will probably get more than it's fair share of weathering!

get well soon!

I have finished basic camo painting on my su-27. juts have to finish the exhaust area and do some touch up spraying here and there then it's on to future oil wash and decals!!

Oh, one more thing, I'm gonna try and do the oil wash before the decals. Is there any major problem with that I'm over looking?

A6Efan, very sorry to hear about the surgery & wishing you a full & speedy recovery.  The Mig is looking great.  Don't think I could build laying on my belly, but seems you have it figured out.

Get well my friend.

Big Smile [:D]Hi Tanky and fellow GB'ers. Sorry I've been away from the forum for a while, but recovering from cancer surgery does put a bit of a damper on my building time. Anyway, here are some shots I took back on the 20th after I did a little work on my MiG-21.  I've been working on it the past couple of days in the livingroom while laying on my belly on the futon. (can't sit at my work bench due to the surgery).  I should be able to have it done by the 10th and I'll have more shots later this week. Enjoy!
