Hey all-
Just to prove I'm not QUITE all talk and actually DO plan to participate Wink [;)]
Here's the kits, on the workbench in the new den/hobby room in the new house:

And here's a view of the new workspace. The table on the right is for assembly and stuff, the one on the left is where the spray both will go (right next to the window for venting!) Now I just need to unpack the tools and supplies and I'm off!

Rick, I was doing the Future coat during these photos, so no paint, or very hard to see. :)

Sergei, I got the GF to take a couple pics while I was painting.

John, nice looking camo job you've got there.

Overall, the fit was pretty good. Only had a few heavy-sanding issues on the underside, but nothing major. All in all, a decent kit. Looking forward to completing it...this'll be my first Russian/Soviet fixed-wing a/c. Big Smile [:D]

How did you get those pictures? I see BOTH your hands in two of them! How many limbs do you have? looks good, though...
Wilkommen back tanky. An d thanks for the vote of confidence. I just managed to strip the paint off one of the wings by putting some thiner on it. I thought that I'd Gone over the entire surface with future to seal it in, but apparently not...

Been on holiday for the last 2 weeks, so very little work done.

However! The MiG-29 is almost complete! I got the camo painted, as well as the nosecone and fin tips. Painting the anti-glare area during lunch, and I might Future it this evening. Pictures to follow!

Dunce [D)]
Ahhh - that is why i bought that big bottle of windex a while back. I couldnt remember why it was sitting there on the shelf staring at me. I have used the rubbing alcohol cleaning a few times and I think that because i have used so much it has worked so well. (Another bonus is that i spray the alcohol on my hands to clean off the acrylic paint that i always manage to get on meBig Smile [:D])

Thanks for the tip!!!

After I spray future i always run a bunch of rubbing alcohol through it and that will clean it out . I almost always use the small paint cup for my future so I just fill it up with the thinner and let 'er rip until it is empty, easy as that your airbrush is 75% clean. All that you will need to do is just wipe it down and reassemble it!!

If everything is cured (a good way to tell is if there's still a strong paint smell on the model itself). If it's cured, then soapy water shouldn't be a problem at all and neither should the future.

Future is pretty forgiving - you can spray it full strength. Just take it easy, as always easier to build up coats than try to put on a single thick coat.

I havent had a chance to look at any of them yet. I'll get back to you when I have.

Later: Ok, i'm going to spray future over the plane in preperation for weathering and decals. Any tips on future spraying? but before I do that....Are you sure it's ok to immerse this thing in soapy water?

Paul Boyer from FSM wrote a really good article about a "sludge wash" technique - is that the one you downloaded? I use that technique quite a bit myself.

I can drybrush to make stains, right? I was actually thinking of the panel lines. That would probably be oil wash or something, right? But I don't know how to do that. I downloaded something on it from this site's archives, so I'll read that first, and then ask if i have any more questions.

OK: i want do try out some simple weathering techniques on this kit. any advice?

OK, first if you feel like you've been awake for 30 hours, yes it's time for a break.

Second, as far as simple techniques - well, depends what you're looking for. Are you trying to emphasize some panel lines, or some exhuast/gunpowder stains and/or oil/hydraulic leaks??

You talking to me, joe? Didn't know you knew my real name.

Anyway: Yeah, I do need gloves. I'm getting fingerprint on everything. And a primer would probably help, yes. Right now, it's a little late for me to put on a second coat, So i'm going over some of the trouble spots with a handbrush. For my silver paint, handbrushing works just as well as airbrushing for small areas , and is much, much easier.

OK: i want do try out some simple weathering techniques on this kit. any advice?

But I may take a small break from modelling for now. I just woke up and feel like i've been awake for 30 hours. My hands shake viloently when i try to do something as simple as apply glue. Yestarday, i wore my shirt backwards and inside out and, since noone was home to correct me, wore it that way until i was looking for my shirt pocket to see if a small piece of the landing flaps had flown into it afte popping out of it's sprew at excessive speeds. It ended up being under the boiler, in amoung the trilobite skeletons and mutsated spider-cricket hybrids.

Sergei,
not bad for your first airbrushing attempt. My personal practice is to be able to see straight when i airbrush, and perhaps you should spray a light coat of a primer, in this instance white, before the silver. The primer should help you see where you have missed on the first go round. Keep up the work and before you know it you'll have perfected the daunting task of WWII german mottle camo!!!

Love the classic lines of the mig 15 and 19!!!!

Carl,

If I may make a suggestion; consider washing your hands or wearing some type of soft glove when handling a BMF/Silver finished bird. I thought I saw some finger prints on the right wing. It has been eons since I did a BMF and in fact thats due to my frustration level with it. I actually stopped doing any BMF, until this Group Build that is. So keep soldiering on (KBO!)

In regards to the tanks etc. make it how you want it...from photos I have seen of flight lines you can see a wide variety of aircraft in differing states of readiness...biggest thing is to have some fun!
