Jules,

You may want to look into Eagle Parts. I think they have a conversion kit.

my D-9 is ordered along with the eagle parts cockpit, eduard flaps and interior details sets so hopefully it will be here in the next couple of weeks!!! I think that along with the PE and white metal that comes with the Hasa kit i have plenty of extras to make this an awsome detail job!!! Cant wait!!!

I've got a spare Italeri 1/72 Dora if anyone wants to build it. Seems that I forgot how to read and bid on the wrong model. Now I've gotta get me another Dora for JV44!

Biscuit, you're good to go.

I've decided not to do "Black 6" from JG2. I've been doing a bit of research into the Doras of KG(j)27 and have found two interesting paint schemes. Both are speculative, but are based on known fact and judging from each of their respective Werknummern, they should have Ta-152 tails. I've done some doctoring on "Black 12"'s profile, since it originally had a regular tail and was facing the other way, but after playing around a bit, I think it looks ok. The model will be much better, I promise. I'm thinking about putting these two in a dio eventually, but first I've gotta build the JV44 birds. Without further ado, here they are!

Ok, Please be gentle with me, I've never been in a group build before, and not sure how this works, but out of coincidence I've recieved the Trimaster kit yesturday.

So...If it's ok, I'd like to throw my hat in the ring and join this build.

I hope the Fw 190D-9 qualify's. I haven't decided on any markings, and not sure this kit needs am parts.

Anyhoo, please cu\ount me in. Sounds like fun.

Dragonfly,

You're in! The Trimaster Dora is a fantastic kit. The only real aftermarket part the Trimaster kit needs is a new wheel well and engine plug. The 190D and Ta-152 series had an open wheel well so you could literally look up into the engine bay. That isn't represented in the Dora kit, so if you want to build a 100% accurate kit you may want to look into that.

That being said, the point of this GB is to have fun, learn from one another and make some impressive airplanes.
Welcome aboard!

Sweet, thanks for letting me tag along. If I may be so bold, who makes the correct parts I need, and can I find them at Great models? I'm still waiting on some out of stock items, and It may not be too late to add some parts for this build.

I know Aires makes a complete update set that includes the entire engine, gun bay, etc, but that gets kinda pricy. Guys, anyone know? I know there is a resin plug out there, but can't remember who makes it. Gotta find that out for myself too!

I saw the Aires set at grt mod. and it looks very nice, however the trimaster kit already put a hole in the wallet. Awwh what the hey...... It's only money. I also looked at set # ae 4193, which appears to be a completely inclosed wheel bay, which I don't think is right.
Is it?

Dragonfly

p.s. I also need to come up with some interesting markings

Dragonfly,

Nope, that's an A model wheel well. No good for a Dora. For interesting markings, go to either Kommandeur Decals http://www.xs4all.nl/~rhorta/kdeur.htm , Experten Decals www.stormbirds.com/experten/ or Eagle Cals www.eagleeditions.com

All three have great markings for 190D's. Some really interesting schemes!

Jon,

Yeah, that's what I thought, If you look real close on the package, you can make out 190-A. Oh well, I guess I'll continue to search for the correct gear bay.

Thanks for the decal sites, I'll definitely find something there.

Hey Guys,

If you're looking for the engine/wheel well fix, you can find it here

http://partsrparts.homestead.com/Partslist.html

He's got corrections for both the Trimaster/DML kit and the Tamiya kit and he's very reasonably priced!

Jon,
I just took a look at that site, and it appears all I need is the engine plug. I assume I can alter the kit wheel well to correct the issue. I'm a happy camper now! $4.00 part,$4.00 shipping. Now, onto the decals. Thanks for all the help. I was afraid I was becoming a pain in the arse.

Cheers,
Jerry

Jerry,

Not at all! I think I'm gonna have to order about six of those engine plugs. Modifying the wheel well is pretty simple. Razor saw and Xacto.

I'm going to hit my two Doras and an A model with primer tonight. As soon as my roommate gets back, I'll take some pics and post em.

Ooh ! Ooh ! Can I join? I have a ticket (or three) I think !

(yes, it is)

I'm going to save the Trimaster Ta 152 until another time, but I'll build the Dragon kit with opened engine bay, and the D-9 with the Parts R Parts engine plug.

Whistling [:-^]Wow!! [wow]

Ok, I'm jealous. I seriously need to get a copy of the Trimaster 152. Come on in Pix!

I've gotten Red 3 and Red 13's fuselages painted in RLM "84" and 76 respectively. Going to do the red undersides next.

I'm looking at converting my Hase d-9 to a D13 standard, does any one know where i can find an AM set that will do this. I have seen the yellow 10 web page that details one such conversion but found that the AM parts that were used are no longer available. All that needs to be done is to remove the upper guns and and some small bulges to the engine cowling, but I really didn't want to have to fill and sand all that myself.

Thanks for any help!

Matt,

You also need the larger supercharger intake for the Jumo 213F engine. I don't know if anyone produces a conversion in 1/32 at this point. I thought if anyone did, Eagle Parts would, but their 1/32 updates are strictly for the D-9.

All,

I've made some more progress on Red 3. Something snapped in my head tonight, so I went ahead and painted both Red 3 and Red 13. Red 3 came out beautifully, but I royally screwed up Red 13 and had to strip off the paint and start again. Of course, the wings have not yet been permanently mated to their fuselages, but that'll happen after I get the engine plugs. Red 3 is completely camouflaged in an 82/83 mottle over Grunblau (sometimes erroneously known as RLM84) with the RLM23 red undersides now. Next step will be to seal it with Future, hit it with a sludge wash to bring out the panels, etc, seal that, and then decal.

All is well with the world. I've got the kit, I've ordered the engine plug, and the decals. I was thinking of doing one of the yellow tails,JG26 or JG54, Hans Dortenmann.

Ok, finally got my hands on my roommate's camera. Here are the first three shots of "Red 3" from JV44. I may take some shots of "Red 13" tomorrow after she's repainted. What a disaster that was!

Thanks guys!

Jerry,

Yep, all paints that I use are Model Master Enamels. Their Luftwaffe colors are really good.
I really need a better airbrush though. I can't get a tight enough spray pattern with the one I'm using now.

Matt,

Quick side question, when did you go through IERW? It looks like I'll be starting in late September/ early October. Got any advice? Thanks!

Jon,
I went thru IERW in 99 - 00 and the biggest thing that I could say is have fun!!! It will be a bit stressful and at times very frustrating, but in the end a great time. Will you be Warrant or Comissioned? Different companies for either, and of course different rules to live by.

Keep the greasy side down man!!

Matt,

I'm gonna be an RLO. I commission on 17 July and should be headed to Rucker in late September. I'm going to a Guard Apache unit in PA, just got my letter of acceptance today!

Mick,

Thanks man!
