How's everyone going with their builds? Mine has stalled a bit, but I did get my decals for "yellow 10" the other day. They look really good so I might have to get back to working on my Dora.

I finally got started on the Trimaster D9. Well....at least the cockpit. I'm going to try and put some plumbing on the engine plug, and do some fitting to get it all inside. How's everyone else doing?

cheers,

Jerry

A lot of impressive work! I'm doing my 1/72 Tamiya D-9 as "Red 1" from JV 44, coming along pretty well, hope to have her done in about a week.

All kinds of great looking Doras, I am still waiting to order the resin replacement wing for my kit - thought that I was getting the new Hasa kit but I was wrong. Oh well that is life, I did get a great PE set and brass tubing and white metal parts so that is a bonus. Think that I'll take the eagleparts cockpit back out of the fusalage soon to redo it and get some pics of it. Keep up the great work and the awsome pics!!

Hey guys!

Well, I'm back from Ft. Lewis and now a commissioned officer (kinda scary there!). I had a great opportunity to photograph Yellow 10 when I stopped by the museum of flight on Sunday, so I'll get pics of it up ASAP. It was amazing seeing it "in the flesh". Gorgeous airplane.

Anyhow, I get back to my apartment tomorrow, so I may actually get to work on y Doras again someday soon!

Congrats there LT, and have fun at flight school. I for one would love to see the pics that you have of yellow 10, can I say that I'm green with envy Approve [^], but would love to see them.

Once again congratulations on the Commission and welcome to Army Avation!!

I'd love to see your pics of "Yellow 10" as well Jon. They would be very helpful to my build. Do you know how accurate the camo is on the restored yellow 10 compared to its wartime camo?

Pix - looks awsome!!! I wish that i had the skills that you have.

I just got the Revell Germany Fw190d-9(late) that I'll be adding to this build, as I am still waiting on the resin conversion kit for the bad hasegawa kit that I had. ( of course the resin kit would come a bit faster if I actually ordered it!!!Big Smile [:D])

BTW - the revell kit looks like it is a re-box of the newer Hasa kit so it should be a pretty good build.

When does this group build run until? I have a kit that would qualify, bu am a bit cautious about joining anymore GB's at the moment.

Beautifull Pix.... simply beautifull! I currently have the engine plug detailed and painted, CP is installed, wheel well is complete and painted, and now I'm going to assemble the struts and asscociated hardware using the wheel well as a jig like you suggested. This kit is more then what I'm used to, but it's coming along nicely. Will post some pics soon.

I've actually gotten back to doing some work on my D-13. I've pretty much finished the cockpit, and am now wrestling with the fuselage and wings trying to get them to line up properly. It's not easy......

Tanky - Don't think this GB really has an end date. I'm not running the GB, but I'm sure you'd be more than welcome to join. BTW, what kit have you got?

I've got the hasegawa 1/72 fw-190 d-9 w/ the aires detail set. It'll take me at least 6 months to finish that so I was wondering when this ran until...

Well.....finally...got something to show. First, let me say thanks to Bill(pix) for his heads up on how to deal with this excellent kit. Glueing the upper wings to the fuselage worked like a charm. The engine plug had plumbing added, and with some dry-fitting and sanding, went in without a hitch. I also have the struts completed and drilled out the excess material on the rear yoke. (another one of Bill's tips) Now with the sticky issues behind me, I can move on to the painting. I now it doesn't look like much, but it took a long time to get to this point. Oh...I know it looks like a nasty seam on the nose above the wheel well, but it's been filled with CA. That's why it looks clear. I thought some sanding was needed to get the nose to close, only to find out, after sanding away material, that removing the alignment pin was all I had to do to get it to line up perfectly. The seam is now filled and sanded and hopefully dissapear with some paint.

Havin a ball,

Jerry

dragonfly - looks great man. Looks like you have a handle on your Dora!!!

Update on my Revell Germany D-9 (Late)
I have the engine plug painted and washed, have begun the instalation of the Eduard PE landing flaps. This set is the most PE that i have assembled and it is a bit of a headache. I have found that the hardest part has been the curve on the leading edge of the flap. I am looking at adding some of the Verlinden detail set to this build, things like the radio compartment and the cowling guns etc. (verlinden productions kit #2029).

As for the hasagawa kit - I still have to order the resin replacement parts to convert it from a 9 to a 13 to model the wonderful yellow 10. So all that I am doing on that one at the moment is finishing up the eagleparts cockpit set and adding some detail to the landing gear and other small projects. Think that I might use the bad hasa wings as a practice slate to work on the paint job for yellow 10.

Hopefully I'll have some pictures to post on these soon!!

dragonfly - Looks nice so far. That engine plug looks great.Thumbs Up [tup]

Erich_Hartmann - I'm sure you'll be welcome to join the build. Jus make sure you post plenty of progress pics of you Dora.Wink [;)]

My build is still progressing slowly. I've been wrestling with this warped fuselage trying to get the wings to line up. I've got it a glued up and will start chucking putty at it soon (it's gonna need a fair bit too I think....).

Hey guys,

Well, I'm moved back to the Northeast, and my D-11 suffered catastrophic damage en-route. It got steamrollered by a runaway water bottle and everything on the underside got ripped off... really sux.

Dont you just hate those rouge waterbottles!!! My 190A8 got mauled by my wandering 2yr old, but I think that it fared better than your D-11. Thank God that we have the wounderful CA to turn to!!

Well she's done, I know I get 0 points for originality on this one, Big Smile [:D] but every Luftwaffe enthusiast has to have a JV 44 bird on the shelf.

Tamiya 1/72 D-9, box stock with the exception of hypodermic needles for the wing root MG 151 cannons. Decals are EagleCals and paint is Testor's MM. I used Insignia Red for the bottom and regretted it after I completed the model, too dark. Other than that I'm pretty pleased with it. This is the first modern, well engineered kit I've built in several months, really nice to not have to wrestle with everything, I can't say enough good things about this kit, a pleasure to build. Vielen Dank Tamiya!

Luftwaffle,

Looks GREAT!!! I hope my 48th bird comes out as good. I hear ya about the originality factor, but the Wurger Staffel has a definite appeal to it. I'm doing all four birds. Of course, now that Red 4 got creamed in my move, I'm rebuilding her first. Gotta go downstairs and see how the others I'd built in the past look. I may rebuild some of them as well!

Update on my other birds: Red 3 is ready for decals, but still needs an engine plug and to have the wings permanently affixed. I'm working that detail out now. Red 13 had a mishap with airbrush propellant that sucked through the air line and gooped on the red paint. Gotta repaint her too... and of course, Red 1 has yet to be started... we'll see when I get around to finishing them!

I just found seven of my old Doras downstairs in storage. All need some work, but one is ready for decals to make one of the KG27 birds. It is the Trimaster kit fitted with a DML Ta-152 tail. I've got it finished in RLM81/82/83/ and Green-Blue 76. Not sure whether I'll finish it as Yellow 6 or Black 12, but it'll be one of the two. The others are all in various states of disrepair/damage. Brown 4 from JG26 is probably in the best shape. That's also a Ta-tailed bird. Blue 2 is the 2nd production Dora and is also in pretty decent shape. The rest are all DML and Tamiya birds, but they need lots more work.

Luftwaffle - Your D-9 looks great. That's a nice camo job for 1/72 scale. I like the JV44 thing too, I'll have to build one some day.

Jon - Sorry to hear about your D-11 getting flattened. Hope you sort it out soon.
