Has anyone got reference pics of the 1999 Honda NSR500's? I'm off to the ยด99 Kanemoto and Lucky Strike bikes and I'm highly interested in any high end pictures of engine, swing, front and rear wheels (not just of the mentioned two but from any NSR).

SeaBee: What was your purpose with the clear over Alclad? Did you use it to seal other paints? In my opinion the clear makes the Alclad lose its metal shine.
best regards

Ah, just did my Brembo over the weekend. I paint the brake itself, then do the red of the Brembo, then just go over it - drybrushing - very lightly with the golden colour of the brakes.

Good news, the a/b is up and running. So I did the exhausts (at last) yesterday. Trigger is a bit "sticky" and I now have to get used to it all over again, so results weren't exactly as I planned, but good enough. For those that wondered (like me) you can spray Tamiya clear over Alclad! Wink [;)]

Simon: Paint the area where the brembo-logo is with the Brembo lettering color (red?) then paint the caliper with it's normal color. After the second layer has set you use a light touch with abrasive paper to remove the caliper paint from the top of the embossed letters.
If the Brembo marking is recessed you work the other way. E.g paint caliper color, paint Brembo lettering color and then lightly sand the area to take care of the red overflow. When doing it this way, try to get as little overflow as possible. Finish off with some dry brushing with caliper color to fill in scratches in the caliper color. Works wonders.

Beautiful builds Joel. Excellent finish to both and I agree with Mitch any problems are in the eye of the builder only!! I just hope my RGV is half as nice. How did you go about stripping the plating - oven cleaner?
The RGV is progressing slowly but surely and so far so good for my first bike - the rear damper swingarm and frame have been mated together, the engine and exhausts are being assembled and painted currently, the front forks/wheel progressing similarly (fighting with the Brembo embossed stencil! How do you guys do this?) and the bodywork is having all joins and mould seams dealt with ready for priming. Will really try to have this finished before the end date of the GB.
Regards to all

Awesome builds Joel. I really like the look of both of those bikes. I cannot see any problems with either of the bikes. You wouldn't even notice anything, even after you pointing out the problems you had. It's funny how any problems you encounter during a build always seem worse to the bulider! Usually what you think looks bad isn't even noticeable to everyone else!

On the point of the new Ducati. Does anyone know if any companies will make a decal sheet for the D'Antin bike from this year? Would love to make the Roby Rolfo bike.

Keep the pics coming of your finished builds folks. I'm starting to get itchy feet again....... I need a fix!

Joel : you can't even tell from the angle i'm sitting inBig Smile [:D],
But really they are both very well done
I think matching of paint to decal colour is one of the hardest parts of this hobby specially since every manufactor has diff colour standards for same colour i.e. red, blue and white just to name a few, which is one reason I still haven't fin Rossi M1 from months and months and months ago still waiting on it's final coat of paintWhistling [:-^]

Shayne: Thanks for your compliments. The problems with the Pramac is that the painted red and the decal red isn't a good match + the red decal on the top fairing got ripped on a few places.

SeaBee: I used Scale Motorsport decals for the CF on the heel guard on the left side, on the lower heat shielding on the right side and on the muffler brackets. All other cf areas are made by the mesh technique.
Exhaustsystem is actually not painted with alclad, I used the acrylics mentioned in the manual and then hit them with the clear. Next bike will get Alclad treatment and some exhaust springs.

Joel, top stuff as usual! Thumbs Up [tup]

Interesting how different the CF (on Max's bike) seems on the 3 pics of the same bike. Very nicely done, though. Was the "mudguard" sone using the mesh spray and the rest by decal?

Nice set of exhausts on both bikes - Alclad really came to the party there! No probs' with spraying clear over Alclad? Or am I wrong in assuming you used Alclad there as well?

My progress is slow, just starting to assemble front forks. Thinking of doing the decalling first this time, before attaching the bodywork. Usually do it the other way around to make sure about allignment, but these RC211V's really go together so well, you don't need to worry too much about potential mis-allignment! So from here on in progress could be quicker... Esp. since I am getting my airbrush back tomorrow - in the end it was a problem with the regulator not working properly when depressed, so paint pickup did not "register"! Taped Shut [XX]

Thanks Pingtang! Since I first tried stripping the plating I haven't found a reason for not doing it (besides saving some time). I allways find scratches in the plating and the shine seems too high.

Awesome builds Joel. Both of them look great to me. Do you think it was worth stripping the chrome off the frame and painting them? Looks like it from here, the alclad looks great. Great work.Thumbs Up [tup]

As said I finished two RC211V builds the day before yesterday. They are the Camel Pons bike as it featured in the qualifying race of the Dutch GP 2003 (You can find the โ€œ2โ€ next to Biaggisโ€™ #3 as he celebrated his 32nd birthday) and the Pramac Pons bike from the Italian GP the same year.

Both bikes are based on the Tamiya Camel Pons kit and to those I have added two sheets of decals from Studio 27. As always nicely detailed and with a pretty high quality.
The engine is OOB except some hose clamps out of metal wire so nude pics isnโ€™t necessary.
Added value this time is as follows
-Stripped the chrome plating of the frames and swing arms and painted them Alclad II Higly polished alu.
- Scratch built front fork sensor and axle pin.
- Scratch built right side exhaust pipe heat shielding.
- Painted rear chain sprocket cover, clutch cover, rear mud guard and right exhaust pipe heat shielding with XF-56 through mesh over X-18 to get CF effect.
- Covered left heel guard, muffler fastener and the scratch built right heat shielding with Scale Motorsport CF decal. Also made muffler ribbons out of the same material.
- Detailed the chain and brake callipers
- Replaced Tamiya tubing with fishing line. .6 mm for clutch and brake lines and .4 mm for throttle.
- Did some over all weathering and did some cuts in the foot pegs.

I think the Camel turned out ok and sad to say Iโ€™m not that satisfied with the Pramac. But judge for your self. Here comes the pics.

Hi guys-Yamafreak in answer to your question the correct decals to use are the peace sign for window and hawa'n shirt dog for seat, also in my view the tank decal is the right colour if you are using kit supplied decals,However from all the pic's i have seen of the bike it is the wrong shade of orange on decals for rest of bike, that is why i haven't done it yet .

I have ordered tamyia duke should be here in a few days (+extras)ordering through HLJ for me is a LOT cheaper than getting through LHS by about 50% ,by the time they add thier cut on,govt adds thier tax on ,sales tax,and of course GST(goods and services tax).
Joel is right Renissance are bringing out decals but a few others like this years D'Antin scheme can't wait
that isn't so bad joel i checked the rcv last night looking for touch up jobs and found red paint on the white repsol decal main fairing any ideas on how to remove it ?anyone?Banged Head [banghead] that's what you get doing 4 models at once

No one with ideas upon Yamafreaks questions by the way? Seems like an interesting dilemma that needs to be solved.
/Joel - who just finished two builds that started on the 7th of July 2004...pics to be posted in a few hours.

I haven't ordered it yet. I'm stocking up on Valencia RCV:s to do some 04 versions and I guess that item will leave the market quicker than the desmo. I'll probably wait and see how the after market will react on the release. Hopefully we'll see both decal sheets and transkits in the near future. As far as I know Renaissance will do some 03 fairings.
best regards
Joel - who just noticed he didn't mount the inner parts of the air supply on the frame. It's too late to fix it also...too bad.

Nice pics Cupcai! I must agree that the race was fabolous!
Why don't you get yourself another photobucket account to store more of your images?

For me, I'm finishing off the Camel and Pramac Hondas today. Weather is bad but if it gets better during the day I'll post images tonight.
best regards

OK, so I take a close look at the decals supplied with my Valencia RC. Can somebody tell me why there are two different designs for Rossi's dog, Guido- one in a hawaiian shirt and the other in prison stripes? Also there are two different "The Doctor" windscreen decals- one him throwing a peace sign, the other a mug shot, presumably to go with the jailbird Guido. The directions only list using the flowered shirt dog and peace sign Doctor, what is the difference since I thought this scheme was only used for one race? Is one a practice/qualifying scheme? Back-up bike? I kind of think the whole jailbird thing was reflecting how Rossi felt still being with Honda at that time. Ideas? Also, great race yesterday. Funny that- Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Sleepy, Happy, Sneezy and Bashful are all in Rossi's fan club.

Nice pics, cupcai. Hard to believe the M1's actually got a little bit of a silencer! After hearing it, and seeing the RC's open-pipe set up, I thought Termignoni threw in some money and asked Yamaha to make it at least appear that Rossi used their muffler. Can't wait to see what Tamiya comes out with to replicate the changes to the '05. Springtime '06, maybe?

cupcai,

Don't forget your earplugs, man. My head still hurts from Laguna Seca. My M1's done, just gotta post up pics of it and those outstanding C/F decals from Scale Motorsport. Got as far as opening up the box on my Valencia RC, might start prepping parts this weekend if hurricane Rita doesn't blow Texas off the map.
