Great reference pics. Great pics of that guy's build as well (the M1 itself). Can be depressing, can be inspiring, depending on your angle!

Me, I'm crawling along. A/b has now finally given up the ghost. Will take it in to get looked at tomorrow, then we'll take it from there...

That's awesome mate. Those pictures will be very handy. And it is very handy that you can download them in RAR archives....Thumbs Up [tup]

BTW, my builds are still coming along slowly. I got the frames painted black the other day. I also primed some of the body work. Hopefully I'll paint the TS-51 for my Gauloises bike this weekend. The Spiderman bike is more tricky to paint. So it'll wait a while til I have more time.......

I have just finished putting the CF decals on the airbox of my M1 now. Has taken all week, its my first time with CF decaling (got the Scale Model Hi Def one and it looks really good) and also with Microsol/Set. Doesnt look too bad. Just need to let it dry for a day and then varnish it and all is good.

Frame/handlebars and engine is all done so will post some pics as soon as i can get to my web space.

Give the HLJ option a try. I've ordered from them before, very often they can still get it even though it's marked in gray. Maybe just pop them a quick email beforehand, otherwise order and when you get the confirmation, reply on that email, asking whether it is still available...

Making progress, almost ready to decal cowlings. Sorry no pics yet, just got back from some travel. Quick question- anybody know how to get a hold of some Nicky Hayden decals for the RC? I looked on HLJ's site, and the only manufacturer seemed to be Museum Collection, but they're sold out of course. Thinking of getting another Valencia RC (since it has the open pipes) and making it #69 instead. Pretty sure Tamiya will come out with his newer bike, don't you think? But I don't feel like waiting. Ideas?

Hi again!
Been off from modelling to take care of the wedding. To not be on the lazy side I've been doing some serious shopping instead ;-)
Have ordered quite a few interesting transkits of wich the most interesting are the S27 Fortuna and Gauloises -03 and Fortuna and Pramac -02 NSR:s together with Renaissances buitiful Konica Minolta -05 RCV. Absolutely stunning and I can' twait to get it started. I might just have to put it higher up on my list of to do's.
I see that all of you others make great progress. Mitch, that M1 is great! Look forward to see more photos from the rest of you.
best regards
Joel who now have Rydh as last name...how shall I do with all of my forum nick names...?

Holiday's over! Did some building, but was away most of the time.

At least got the fairing painted (outside, not the inside yet), exhausts are assembled and "silver", will try out the AB this weekend to see whether I got it sorted to add some colour. Just assembling the frame for engine mounting.

Thanks for the advice, Ping. I have to go to a football (American) game tonight, so I'll have to bug the wife to help tomorrow after work. Also, I got my Valencia RC in the mail today. Hopefully, I'll finish up on the M1 and be able to get right into the second bike this weekend.

I think the windex should be alright on the Tamiya TS paint. The TS paints are a lacquer, so shouldn't come off. Just test it on a scrap piece of plastic if you're not sure about it.

Would you be able to take some pics of the SMS carbon sheets? I might be interested in getting some and haven't seen a photo of it yet. Thanks.

The Scale Motorsport high def decals are definitly a winner! Worked really nicely with Micro Sol. Now I have a problem- I clear coated my fairings with Future floor polish, as they were drying, dust collected in the Future. Now the paint looks like crap obviously. Anybody know can I use Windex to remove the Future without hurting the base coat of Tamiya TS-51? I really don't want to have to repaint. I'm out of Racing Blue and don't really want to wait for the mailman to bring some.
Thanks.

Gents,

I got my C/F decals today from Scale motorsport, the "high definintion" new ones that just came out. Pretty impressive, they look almost 3D. Thinking I maybe sould have gotten 1/20 instead of 1/12, but oh well. Also I'm quite impressed with SM's shipping- I ordered them online Sept 1 and got them today, and that's really saying something what with the labor day holiday and all. We'll see how they go on with some micro sol and a hair drier, and I'll let you all know.

Yamafreak - Just for info. I used X-32 on the exhaust as a base layer. I then painted on small amounts of X-23 Clear blue with a kind of dry brush effect. I then put another layer of X-32 over the top of this again usuing a dry brush technique. I wasn't sure how this would turn out, but in my opinion it gave that blueish effect that is present on the real bike. I was quite happy with the results.

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback! Glad to hear my work is doing some good inspiring others! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I've started my two M1's as well. I'm building both at the same time and they are both at the exact same stage of construction. I've got all the fairins glued together and filled, I just need to sand them before I start painting. The engine block is glued together but I haven't started painting yet. Same with the frame, swing arm and airbox. I've started on the CF decalling with the right hand guards and rear huggers covered. Those rear huggers are tricky to decal.....For anyone who is going to use CF decals, make lots of cuts in the decals to make sure the decals conform properly. Otherwise they just fold up and have big wrinkles in them......

Great build, Mitch! Don't know if mine will turn out that well, but here's a progress update: engine-100%, fairings-inside painted X-18...waiting to build courage to go ahead and airbrush TS-51 on outside, exhaust assembled trying to decide on a realistic looking color since I'm not thrilled with how X-32 titanium silver turns out- looks too plastic IMHO, wheels built painting carbon discs and adding pinstripe decals to rims, frame assembled and painted, detail up forks temporarily attached. After I spray the panels and finish with the swingarm and some touch ups, I'm at a stopping point awaiting my C/F decals from scale motorsport. Will ask the wife to help post pics tomorrow. Might not be as nice as the last M1 shown, but Mitch seems to be a hard act to follow! Oh well, my Valencia RC should be here soon, we'll see what I can bang out with that one. Again, nice one Mitch!

Thanks alot for the kind words folks. Shane, the Tamiya parts were easy to work with. There is a separate instruction fold out that gives you everything you need. The only trciky bit was trying to trim the sprue away from that aierial! Quite fiddly. And I used the SMS C/F sheet for all the decals. As for the exhaust guard I just approxiamted the size of the part, cut it out the decal to match, and by using alot of microsol got it to confirm to the surface.

So here are the pics of the finished article. As usual there are some bits that I'm not quite pleased with, but has anyone built the "perfect" model? Think I will have a small break before starting another build. Think I fancy a car next time round.

MITCH- excellent work ,Bow [bow].I had fallen away in my progress (always do when it comes to doing decals for some reason).
How did you find Tamyia's detail up parts to work with ?
Are they fiddly or a dream to work with?Question [?]
How did you do the cf on the piece by footpeg/exhaust??????.what brand of cf did you use.
I'm away no to do more of my RCV

Mitch,
All I can say is WOW! Looks Great! I'm still stuck prepping the farings, and tonight am going to order different C/F decals since the ones I got from HLJ hardly show up as having any weave whatsoever, and are kinda thick to get around complex curves like that rear fender. Which really turned out nice on yours. Also, finally ordered my Valencia RC. Won't be doing two at once now, more like one after the other.

UPDATE: just ordered scale motorsport's "high definintion" C/F decals in 1/12, will let you all know how they look.

Pretty much finished my build. Does that mean I'm going to be the first?

Just waiting until I've got enough time to do all the decals in one pass. Then the fairings will be going on. Job done. Here are the pics I took before fitting the fairing. I always take pics with the fairing off, as I don't like to take them on and off all the time. the model will be displayed fully clothed! Only bits missing are the footrests, and one footguard.

Looks good so far Simon. You look alot more organised than I am. That's a good kit you have there too. It was my first bike model too a few years ago. I usually just brush paint most of the details on my bikes, but that's probably because I'm too lazy to do all that masking......

Just getting started on the RGV - lots of work to go but nice to get this going - my first bike and first GB.

Quite different to anything I have tried before - filling seams and masking for spraying the details (or do you all just brush paint) is looking like its going to be hard.
