                        Just thought of this too. Has anyone made any of the Italeri truck kits to go with the Yamaha M1 or the Honda RC211V ? Are they worth it ?

                        Guys, if you want to get the Ducati Desmo stand set and front forks, as well as the kit (and also the M1 front fork set actually) at a good price, have a look on Ebay and look for a user called "icanucan". Shop URL is http://stores.ebay.com/Kenncer-Online-Store-by-icanucan

                        I have bought a few bits from him, and just ordered the M1 front forks, which cost UKP 12.98 including shipping from Japan. All the rest of the stuff I got from him in around 5 days.

                        Andrew - You could order the Scale motorsport decals direct from www.scalemotorsport.com . Or get the Renaissance sheets from media mix. You could also try www.raggeddesigns.com , He stocks Rennaissance sheets, and that's where I got mine.

                        Mitch you are right it is worth the xtra $$ (here in N.Z it costs just as much as the M1 kit).I got one last week now I have to get another M1 to put them on along with all of the new duke + extra's + I have just put an order in for the Itelleri 1/9 moto gp duke
                        wife is not very happy have spent quite a few $$ in the last few weeks.
                        Have now 5 projects on table while waiting for paint to dry on RCV(which is now Haydens usgp bike could not find any suitable decals for Max's bike)
                        M1 -awaiting decals
                        Heller-motogp duke awiting decals
                        started kawa 500
                        R1 detuning into R6 world supersport((long story with this i'll just say it was going to be 2004/05 Ri)

                        Andrew. I used the Scale Motorsport CF sheet in 1/20th scale. They call that pattern "twill weave". I bought it from mediamixhobby.com.sg I have heard though the the Renaissance sheet is better, not quite as silvery looking. Although on the advice of some of the other guys you could get the Scale Motorsport sheet and give it a coat of smoke once applied to dull it down a bit.

                        Daniel. I wish I had the skill the scratch build things like like! The camera and aerial came with the Tamiya front fork detail set. There is also a camera on the exhasut bracket that you can't quite see on the picture. It's a really good kit. The forks are great! Worth the £$ if you can get hold of one.

                        It's looking great Mitch. I like the CF decal job you've done. I'll probably do the same as you, just cover what will be seen once the bike is finished (probably won't do the whole airbox like you did). Where did the aerials on the back come from? Did you make them yourself? Great work.

                        Got some progress pics to post. Getting on pretty well with the build. Had some time off work, so I've been getting stuck into it. Should be done withtin about another week I reckon. Just the finishing touches to do really after I get the swingarm on.

                        A pic of my homemade spray booth! I think I need a dust mask! I can't spray outside. I was sneezing blue snot for afew days! Not good.

                        Hi Dave, welcome to the build. I have that mag too, and it has some good tips in it.

                        I'm getting inspired to start this build now, but there's not enough space on my desk. But, I've got afew builds finishing soo, so I'll get going soon. I'll do the Gauloises bike first with the AM Tobacco decals and Rennaissance CF decals.

                        Hello

                        As per the carbon-decal thread, I am building the Yamaha YZR-M1 at the moment. I have just finished step 1 (hahaha) and it has taken ages but the engine looks good. I have some tips from Tamiya Model magazine issue 113 where it says about the pipes and braided hoses, aswell as carbon decaling that looks great from the pics. Would scan the pages in but dont have a scanner !!! Might have a go with the digital camera......

                        Also just put an order in for the Ducati Desmosedici kit, with front fork set and stand set.

                        Will let you know how i am getting on !!

                        I just got my copy of that book (2004 collection) too. It's simply superb. Just waiting for two more copy to complete the book collection. I highly recommend this book not just for modeller, but for GP bike lovers as well.

                        What pictures of the M1 do you need specifially and how do I post them so you can access them. The book is fantastic, best bike modeling "tool" I have bought in years.

                        Like the idea of using tape to get a pattern, will try it on some smaller parts next

                        Hey, you want to scan some of those pics of the M1 and send them my way? Just so I can see what you are talking about of courseWink [;)]. The decals aren't actually too hard to use. I use tape to make a pattern of the area to be covered and cut the decal around it. Then postion the decal and soak it in Midro-sol. It might need a bit of help to conform to curves. Or you might need to do small cuts where the decal won't conform properly.

                        I don't think you need to get the CF pattern to look exactly like it does on the real bike. It probably changes from bike to bike anyway. If it looks good to you when you're finished, it's good enough.

                        Had the modelling blues last two months so not touched either of the West RCV or the Fortuna M1. Hope to get going again this weekend. Recently received Moto GP Racers Archive 2004 Pit Walk Photo Collection #04 which is fantastic reference source. While paging through the above-mentioned book I was amazed at the assorted and varied “carbon fibre” patterns. Recent discussions focus on the use of net, stockings etc to simulate the chequered carbon effect with paint. But I noted for example the M1 has a more “Zebra” black/grey effect and the patterns appear not to be uniform? This makes the problem of carbon simulation more complex. Anyone got any ideas how to simulate this effect? For now I just use semi-gloss black the thought of decals is daunting!

                        I've got some Carbon Fibre decals on the way from Rod at Ragged edge designs, so I might just get the inspiration to start one of my M1's soon. I've never seen the Rennaissance decals before, should be interesting.

                        Shayne - On the M1's, the screen should definitely be blank if the bike is off. But, like cupcai says, the info can be displayed while it is off, so it isn't really un-realistic. I suppose Tamiya just thought it would look better with something there (???). The RC211V's decal is realistic though with the analog speedo next to the small blank LCD screen......

                        Even though the engine is not fire up, it's still possible to see thoose information about the bike. Thoose electronic on the bike is run by the battery unit. You could see the race engineer always holding a laptop with a cable plug to the telemetric system.

                        Hi guys ,well i have fallen of the pace a few promblems @ work to sort out.
                        have put my order in 4 the new Duke + all the extras,will have up grade forks 4 the M1 now I have 2 get another M1 2 put them on.
                        I have a Question though,if speedo's are digital on motogp bikes ,why do the decal makers insist on makeing them visble on a static model (bike needs to be turned on 4 the numbers to be visible,or am I just being pickyin my (free time?)??Wink [;)]

                        I'm looking forward to the Brands WSB tommorow as well. Should be a good race. Let's see if toseland can get a result this week.

                        @ Yamafreak72. Those silver lines round the bars were just painted on. Used the finest brush I have to paint them. Put the silver on first fairly rough, then clen them up using XF-1. There is a small groove for the X-11 to sit in. It takes maybe 4 or 5 goes to get it right though. silver, then black, then silver again, then black....... Just keep trying till you get it right. I tried using wire before, but it was harder than painting so I stuck with the paint. Smile [:)]
