Kaz:
a small suggestion re: builder's list...
u mite want 2 incorporate this into ur 1st post w/ an edit.
that way the initial post will have a description of the build's parameters,
start & end dates & a list of participants (which can b updated as necessary)
all in 1 place 4 reference purposes.
good luck w/ ur gremlins....Big Smile [:D]

FrostyGirl thanks for the production line info. I have used this process to build three kits at once (all different), but found that I did not retain information regarding each build, as I wrote no notes. (Bad Kaz!!!)
I will use a production line process to build the 5 DRI's that I intend on building, but paint jobs will be done seperately. (One step at a time, ... I have to get the kits FIRST!)
I suppose that I will have to post pics of my production line when it is in full swing...
I still have Windows gremlins, (I might get them to build my models since they are so industrious!), so no pics yet, but soon...
Kaz

Kaz:
i usually write construction notes rite on the instruction sheets as i'm building
& i keep the sheets so that if i build the same kit again, i can remember any
little trix, tips or problem areas.
when it's time 2 paint, prime all of them at the same time, then do the final
paint schemes individually... just like they did w/ the real ones !
it's funny, but i had the same idea of building a Jasta after i finished my Dr.I
... i mite just have 2 join u... we will b a regular fokker factory then !
& u will have 2 try & rig at least 1! Big Smile [:D]

fellow builders:
welcome 2 u all !
looking forward 2 building w/ u...

FrostyGirl, thanks for the tips Big Smile [:D]
I'm going to get onto them straight away.
You are very knowledgeable about your a/c, and I will take any advice you offer for my builds.
I have never considered writing my construction notes on the instructions, although I do write paint schemes and alternatives to advised paint manufacturer colours on these sheets. In future I will be writing all my notes on the instruction sheets!!! Good one Frosty Thumbs Up [tup]
I tried stripping an old cd-rom power cable last night to produce rigging, but found that the wire was too fine, and too stiff. (Not to mention I almost couldn't see it.) I simply could not work with the material. I will venture to the hardware store later today (if my back is better) for some fuse wire, and some stocks for building diorama bases. (I've seen some excellent based models on the internet in the last few days)

Here is another cool link I found yesterday.

u r welcome !
i actually am learning a lot of this stuff as i go along,
doing research on each project...
thanx 4 posting the link, maybe it would b good 2 edit the linx
in2 the first post also, just 2 keep it all in 1 place ?

here's a couple of pix of the dvi so far:

detail parts mostly painted on the sprues, basecoat on fuse & wings,
cockpit assembly begun, ailerons scored & one is already separated
from the top wing, elevators scored 4 repositioning...

Frosty, looking great as always. You never cease to amaze me.

Kaz, I have a question. Since this Group Build does not specify WWI biplanes, would it be okay for me to join this Group Build with this:

If it is okay, I can get started on this in a day or so.

And if that is acceptable, I also have an Italian CR42 Falco as well as a Fairey Swordfish to do after the Seagull.

Looking forward to your reply.

Hi Everyone Big Smile [:D]

Duke Maddog You are welcome to submit any aircraft that is Bi-wing, or tri-wing. I love the floatplanes and flying boats, so I will be very impressed to have someone building one of these types in this GB. Thumbs Up [tup] Duke Maddog

Simon U Good to hear from you! (Fellow Aussie!) Yes, our timeframe is 18mths. We won't forget about you either Simon Big Smile [:D]

FrostyGirl Once again, excellent! I will add links to the initial message. Was waiting to see what others said. LOL

No updates for me, as I have been ill for thepast few weeks. Couldnt concentrate on the side of a barn, let alone 1/72 scale plastic model parts!!!

Hey, can I join?

There was a 1/72 Fokker biplane at the LHS that had my name on it, but I didn't buy it. This GB would give me a perfect excuse. Big Smile [:D]

Thanks guys (and girls!). Put me down for a 1/72 Revell Fokker VII, just got it from the hobby shop yesterday. I saw a Swordfish there too, and I might go back for it, but I figured a little WW1 bipe would look good nestled in the collection.

This Group Build is for all aircraft that are biplanes or triplanes.
It is not specifically WWI.
Hope that you decide to enter with an aircraft Thumbs Up [tup]

Jabbe, I'm looking forward to seeing your Fokker! I havent seen a model of this a/c yet, so I am sure this will be interesting. Did you note which manufacturer the Swordfish was by?

Good to have you all on board!
I have got some pics of my Albatros downsized, and hope to have them online today. Sign - Dots [#dots]
As usual, available at users.bigpond.com/kazadz
I'll post them here later.

If I'm not mistaken, it was a Revell Swordfish. I don't open model boxes, but this one was already opened, so I took a peek at the parts bag, and overall it looked very nice. I'm not a big fan of Revell at the moment because I'm building a 1/72 B-26 that has lots of issues, but the Swordfish looked good. Like I said, I might go back for it later on.

I'm rather excited about the little DVII because I think it'll be a really quick, fun build. I'm going to paint it with brush and not AB, just b/c the parts are so small. I'm building it OOB, but I think it would make a much more impressive kit if someone added some AM details to it.

Blush [:I] Thanks everyone Blush [:I]

I have plenty of touch-ups to do, and decaling, and then rigging!
Then I might even venture into weathering the damned thing.

Larger pics are available at http://www.users.bigpond.com/kazadz/images.html
Click on the thumbnails to see full size pictures.
I'd be interested to know what people have to say about my little collection.

Well, as I posted before, I have a bustsed Bulldog on my hands, Sigh [sigh] and am trying to find a 'best-fix' Confused [%-)] solution before I get carried away with any other builds. (AND then I go and join another GB yesterday!!) Ashamed [*^_^*]
I think a dio of a crashed Bulldog coming up! Thumbs Up [tup]

Hubby is at a wargame all day today, (Zzz [zzz]) so I might wait until he gets home to get his help with some of my touch-ups on my Albatros.

Question [?]
Now, that colour scheme... This scheme is straight off the box, and yet, I can find NO reference of this scheme ANYWHERE on the net. Can someone tell me where I might find some info that might historically back up this scheme? Thanks in advance Big Smile [:D]

Cheers all Thumbs Up [tup]

Well, I finally got enough time to start my kits for this Group Build. Yep, kits.

This first one is the pilot and observer for my SOC-3 Seagull all painted up and ready to go:

While I was at it, I went ahead and also painted my pilot for the Cr.42 Falco:

Now, on to the planes they will be flying. I put together the fuselage, lower wing and tail surfaces for the Seagull. It isn't trimmed or touched up yet but it looks pretty good so far:

The Italian pilot also looks pretty good in his plane:

I had noticed earlier that this kit has no windscreen so I'll have to find a way to fabricate one.

That is where I am so far with these kits. I'll post more pics when I get more progress done.

Revell/Monogram puts out a couple large scale WWI biplanes, most notable is the Sopwith Camel. I think it is in 1/24th scale if I remember correctly. It may have some fit issues along the fuselage, but it is a relatively easy kit to do in that there is not a large quantity of small parts. Most parts are large enough at that scale to be able to assemble them fast and easy. Putting the top wing on will be a bit dicey, but not too difficult. Certainly easier than the 1/72 scale aircraft I've started in the post above. It should be a good kit for one who's never done a biplane or triplane before.

However, Frosty or someone else may have some better suggestions for you so wait before going out and getting this kit. Good luck and welcome to this Group Build. Sign - Welcome [#welcome]Thumbs Up [tup]
