Same here... I'm nearing completion of the Do335 in the BoG Gb... probably by weekends end maybe mid week at most... Then I have to start my S-100 class Schnellboot for the BoA GB.. but I will build whatever it is I said I would for this in tandem with the Schnellboot... it's kind of a long build with a couple of "stop and wait for it to dry" points in it where I can work on the subassemblies...

(Now I need to go back and remember what I signed up for)

-+=Edit=+-

I went back and look and I am an undecided.. hmmm... I'll have to check the stash.  I might have to visit Hobby Lobby this weekend and check something out with their 40% off coupon...

ditto-I'm in the same boat (no pun intended).  About mid-way on my Battle for Germany Panther (the 262 is 'finished', just need to post pics), started on the Battle of the Atlantic Avenger and have nothing in the stash for this one.  However, I'm waiting for the Hobby Lobby 50% off sale (there should be one soon) before I commit.  Probably won't get started on this GB before April at the earliest...maybe later.

Hi fellas. The beginning of this GB has come around very quickly. I remember back in September saying I wanted to build my Avenger now, so I'd build something else for this GB. 5 months later and I'm still not even close to painting it. So I might enter it in this GB if it's alright to enter an already started build. Hopefully I'll have finished it by september......

Hi everyone.

Lately I’ve been thinking about extending the end date to November, even possibly December at the latest. I’ve notice that many people (even myself) have fallen behind in GB’s. This will give everyone a little extra time.

Pingtang- I think will have time since I’m planning to extend the end date. If not, we can work something outWink [;)].

Panzer Wulff- Just let me know once you get the kit and I’ll put you down. BTW I never got the E-mail. I wonder if it’s working correctly.

JoeRugby – I’m delighted that you’re looking forward to my GB. Hopefully there’s plenty of actionBig Smile [:D].

That would be great with me.  I know that I haven't been around here much but I'm still interested in being involved in this GB.  I'm way overcommitted, however and the extra time would be great.

Wooverstone one of the aircraft i was thinking of was a british HurriCat one of the hurricanes launched off the decks of  merchant ships to defend them from Fw 200 condors and such as my info goes there were some freighters outfitted to recover the Hurricane instead of having the pilot ditch or bail out by adding a wooden landing deck. just a thoughtCool [8D] the HurriCat or SeaHurricane info is at the bottom of this webpage

Well if you are really going to extend it, I'm in for sure then, still with a 1:48 HC British Corsair in markings for Lt Hampton Gray. I still haven't bought the kit yet!

PanzerWulff - Looks like a very interesting project. I remember seeing a program called secret weapons of the allies on the history channel. They talked about this idea on how the British had carried out this concept and was successful. This idea is valid for the GB if you’re interested in doing a SeaHurricane.

Jay Boutin - That’s great that you’re still in. Now I will extend the do date to November 31.

Woohoo!  The start date's finally here.  And suprisingly enough, I'm in pretty good shape to actually start on time.  How the heck did that happen? Confused [%-)]

Building Now:

1/48 Academy Bf-109G6 - 100%

Hey arki30, I just noticed you are planning on doing the AM SBD-5 for this. I just won one off ebay and was thinking of doing that instead of the planned -1. What scheme is yours going to wear? I know some were tri-color, some atlantic, etc. Just interested / getting ideas...

I'm planning on sticking with the kit markings, which is the tri-color scheme.  It'll be my first attempt at such a scheme and I'm looking forward to it.

This is also the first Accurate Miniatures kit I've done.  I just washed the parts and, wow, are they detailed!  I love it already!  I've heard good things about AM, but also the instructions must be followed precisely so I'm perusing them now.

I have the Eduard PE set for this kit, so I'm hoping this turns out cool.  Only time will tell.

edit:  I just looked at the Eduard PE set.  Holy Censored [censored]!  I think I'm going to take my time on this.  Frankly, if I spend two months on just the cockpit, I might be moving too fast.

Thanks for the info arki30. I am hoping mine will come in the mail sometime next week. I am very excited to see it. I also haven't build an AM kit before. The one thing I do hear is the time involved. Because of that I might wimp out and go with a Tamiya corsair, but will probably go with the dauntless. Anyway, good luck with yours!

and away we go !!!

During a very short period of the war there was a red outline to the national insignia.  Now if I am not mistaken I recall seeing a VF27 Hellcat, with nose art, wearing the red outlined national insignia.  I have googled and yahoo'd until my fingers cramped and eye's crossed, but still can not find it...at 37 I have not totally lost my mind...it may have been in a Squadron publication...any one out there know fer sure...?

Thought I had seen something like that on the modeling madness site.  Probably not what you were thinking of but it does have the red outline.

A quick painting question.  I'm building the TBM- 1C (Accurate Miniatures George Bush version) and was wondering if someone could advise what color the inside of the wheels wells and gear doors were.  The instructions call for the doors  to be white (without specifically saying whether both sides should be) and don't mention the wheel wells at all.

PMM I did a quick search and found a few pics of the landing gear ,gear bays & wing folds some were restored aircraft and some were WWII color photos and they appear that the LG doors and bays inside and out were painted white if you want i can post or E-mail you the pics i found

I just got back from the LHS with my Hurricane and a ton of Evergreen strip styrene I'm going to build the Hurricane first and if i can find some more reference photos I'm going to try to build a catapault any help finding photo or drawing reference on the cat would be helpful I'm having a tough time finding pics

Panzerwullf,  No, thats not neccessary, but thanks, I appreciate you taking the time.  Guess I'll have to spray over the green in the bays!

Most US Navy aircraft had the wheel bays & inner sides of the bay doors painted in the same color as the airframe undersides.  For a Tri-color scheme that would be white.  Some were painted in chromate green, but that was more the exception than the rule.

Joe - There were definitely some Hellcats out there with shark mouths on the nose. Like you said, they were VF27 aircraft. The ones I have seen were painted in the tri-colour scheme with red insignia surrounds. So you're not going mad (unless I am too.......)

Also, I'll back Rick up on those wheel wells. Same colour as the underside was pretty much standard. Same goes for gear leags and most wheels. There are exceptions, but not too many.

My Avenger is still coming along. I'll hopefully be ready to take some pics of the firewall, engine and cockpit soon and post them. It's been a long time coming.

I can concur as that is the scheme I am going with thanks to my AM decals!!

Mike, Daniel and Dave...

Thanks for the verification that I am not loosing it.  Good stuff on he wheel wells.  I was recently at the Udvar Hazy Center at Dulles International hee in Northern Virginia and was looking up into the wheel wells of an F4U1a (yes UP, because it hangs from the ceiling) and saw the wells were white.

The Hellcat they have is gear up.  But I was thinking "is this a Museum shortcut?".  Thanks Rick...
