Rex - love the pics, you said you are using the WEM kit for the Schnellboot?  If so I have to get me one of those... the improvement to the torpedo breaches alone look worth it.  The bridge work (i.e. gauges, engine telegraph etc..) scratchbuilt or AM?  I don't remember that much detail on the one I built.  Of course it was 3+ yrs ago and only my second model after a 15 yr break, I might have just ignored it out of fear! Rex........  Nice Torpedo boat!!! nice different subject.....

Well guys.....I jus finished the Hudson......Now I am thinking what am I going to do. ? I'll do some research for some odd aircraft that patroled that large ocean......??? and maybe I'll make another.

I went ahead and weathered the model a little since these aircraft were pretty much beaten up by the North Atlantic weather...Oh! the decals are printed paper.

Night Missions.........Big Smile [:D]

Hope you guys like it............its going into the cabinet tomorrow before one of my grandsons catch it!!!Wink [;)]

Solid, Very nice Hudson.  Really looks good Thumbs Up [tup].  Reminds me of the all wood Strombecker kits I built as a kid.

Progress update on my Swordfish... Haven't made much yet.  I am working (slowly) on the interior, but a couple of other builds took longer than I thought & have priority.  Happens all the time.  Hope to have something to show in a few.

Regards,  Rick

Solid:  Outstanding!!! Thumbs Up [tup]Bow [bow]  I will update the front page with your completed build. Just curious if you have ever considered using decal film to pirnt your decals instead of paper?

Rex:  Looking great. Thumbs Up [tup]  Now I have another kit on my wish list! Big Smile [:D]

Solid very nice work; it's amazing that your kit is made of wood... like in the good old days... at least the cat won't be able to break it easily.

Guys thank you for your comments, I'll appreciate any suggestion and/or critic

razordws is there a Purple Heart Medal in this GB for injuries while in service? look: Black Eye [B)]

Here are some more pix of my progress (I've included a small crew figure so that you can have an idea of the relative sizes):

- double 20mm AA gun

- forward 20mm AA gun

- rudders and propeller shafts

KJ200 I'm gonna use the standard camo scheme (light gray for upper hull, dark grey for lower hull, and medium gray for the deck (except bridge)

tho9900 Yes I'm using WEM kits; the torpedo breaches were built out of the box, I just added a pair of handwheels (which should have been used on the smoke pot tops!). I used more PE parts for the bridge work: engine rev counter dials ("gauges"), engine telegraph repeater ("engine telegraph"), and binocular range handles; but you should be aware that the first two were supposed to be in the interior of the wheelhouse. I just thought they would look better like that... so much for historical accuracy! Here's a better picture of the bridge area:

I'm also using PE on the secondary armement as you can see. I didn't use all the PE parts supplied, however, like the shoulder braces or the double 20mm pintle; first one was too "2-dimensional" and second one did not fit correctly on the deck... I would recommend buying the WEM 1/72 Schnellboot PE kit, but I'm not sure about the second one I bought, the WEM 1/72 20mm Flak Zwiling: you get a PE gunsight for that gun in WEM's first kit, and Revell's gun is not bad at all after all. Pictures of the PE set:

Gonna paint the lower hull and those AA guns now... More pix later!

Happy to know you all have liked the Solid Hudson.
Razordws....Thanks for the front page......Since I am building these solids like they were built about 60 years ago I have opted for keeping the "decals" as they were then, Printed paper......I do from time to time put regular film decals on my models but not often. I have a 25 year old model of a Caproni and the "fading" colours of the paper decals give it a "old gentlemenĀ“s look" rather nice, as if it has not had good maintenance in many years.................. it has not!!!!Tongue [:P]...the main question everytime someone sees it is.........."how old is that one?"

Solid , That is a AWESOME Hudson it is truly a work of art and wooden wonder !!!! It is definitly a good idea to keep  such a prize out of little hands i.e. look but dont touch!

work on  my little killer bird has stalled due to weather as i can only air brush on back porch and 38degrees and painting dont mix well so i am waiting for it to warm up for building operations to resume on my   OS2U-3 Kingfisher . Sometimes mother nature is a real mother when she wont cooperate with me  as i only can work when im off on my 7days off as i work 7&7 its not bad pays the bills but cuts into building time as i also have to spend time wife and kids too being a married modeler you have to be superman to juggle everything and still keep your wits about and work on a project whe'll i guess im a SUPERMODELER my wife just read this and said talk to the hand!" hearts & minds" cant win em all!!!!!

Hi Guys...........................

I have desided to keep myself in the battle, so I started making plans for a small 1:144 FW-200C-4.
The model will be Solid Wood Mahogany....same as the Hudson.Wink [;)]

As you all know this "Ship hunter" relayed convoy locations to the Wolfpacks in the North Atlantic. One of its tactics was to fly high, scare the hell out of the merchant mariners, and let itself  be seen passing on and off the high clouds. It is said that its engines "drummed" over convoys sometimes for over 6 hours...braking a few nerves....they were a bunch of..Censored [censored]Censored [censored]Censored [censored]..to say the least.

Here is the start.....
Plans under development.Shock [:O].......5 - 6 days of work
Wingspan 9" +-
Fuselage 7 1/8"

Sweet looking Hudson solid!!!

Here is my humble progress on this GB-- just finished the primer coat on the SBD-5...and after I fix the feline induced wing root damage on the starboard side, I'll start the Atlantic paint scheme...

And the engine after a little treatment of Alclad Dark Aluminum...

Mike:  Looking good, can't wait to wee that with the Atlantic scheme.  Should look great!Propeller [8-]

Solid:  A condor eh?  Awesome, looking forward to more of your work.

Rex:  Nasty looking cut you have there.  Haven't had time to come up with a purple heart badge but if there was one you would definitely qualify!

Progress Report:  None!  Still battling with my Sunderland and hope to get it in the paint shop this weekend.  However I did pull out the Ju 290 and to my surprise it is even bigger than the Sunderland. Shock [:O]  Where the heck am I going to put this thing!Confused [%-)]

Mike, reference pics of the Dauntless in Atlantic scheme are hard to find.  The Squadron Signal "Walk Around" has a couple of colored pics & a profile, but don't show much of the top sides.  I think the upper wings & tail planes were overall Dark Gull Gray, similar to the scheme used on the Avenger, but that's just a guess.

Progress on the E-Boat is going slowly now but steadily. I have finished painting the lower hull and am still working on several sub-assemblies, like the AA guns, life rafts, torpedoes, ec... Some of my PE parts are giving me headaches - should get a second Purple Heart Med for that! Cool [8D] My thumb is going much better by the way.

Here's a pic of the hull:

Jeeves I extracted a few picts of "Dauntless in action" from Squadron Signal, one of which in color showing the camo scheme used in the Atlantic; send me your email address if you think they could help you out, and I'll send you the pix in .pdf format.

****BUMP****

With all the great GB's going on right now it doesn't take long for a thread to slip to page two. Anyway, just finished reading an account of the Lancaster (617 Squadron) attack on the Tirpitz in Norway using the tallboy bombs. Very interesting reading including an unbelievable account of the Russian's manhandling a tallboy back into the bombbay by brute strength alone. The bomb had to be dropped on the field so they could repair the aircraft. What were they, 12,000lbs or something like that. Shheeeesh!!!! Hmmm... wonder if our den mother was in on that?

Speaking of Lanc's, how's your's coming along Bear?

Hi Dave  Since you asked the Lanc in coming along very slowly.  My real world aircraft are eating up most of my time these days.  The crew compartement is on hold I just ordered the Edouards pe set for the instrument panels and seat straps.  I found the compartement bare and the instrument decals are oversized for the panels and triming them would look yuky so when I saw Edouards had a pe set for the interior I just could'nt resists.  Since I have not had time to do any research I'm working on subassemblys that are not MK specific.  The wings are done and I'm presently working on the engine nacelles.  Over all the parts fit very nicely I don't think I'll need to much putty.  Sorry for the long rant, I'll post some pics in a couple of weeks when I get back from a business trip.

Cheers

Thanks for the update Bear. I saw that Eduards had the PE sets out so I will likely order the coloured cockit set too . I used one of their sets on the He 111 that I did last year and it was awesome. I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Anyway, keep plucking at it and hopefully you'll get some down time soon.

Dave Your right I don't think I'll be disapointed the pe set, so far the stuff I have from Eduards is very nice.  I should have a whole week of peace and quiet when I get back from Seatle and before round 3 of the house renos start to get the wings & engine nacelles together and if the pe set is here by then who knows.

This Accurate Miniatures Helldiver I'm working on is a very nice kit, but I'm not a big fan of the instructions.  They're nice in a way because they explain step by step what to do.  However I prefer instructions like those in the Tamiya kits as I can see the big picture better on the subassemblies etc.  I seldom follow the instructions in order as they can make painting very difficult.  They're not as intuitive in terms of being able to easility identify sub assemblies etc.  Oh well, I'll get used to them as I plan on building more of their kits.
