Hey what's up Frog,

I suppose you bought the Mirage 1/400 sub; if so, I would strongly recommend the Mirage PE set that goes with it, it dramatically improves the model. Toms Modelworks also manufacture such a PE kit, but their set is made for four different subs (http://www.steelnavy.com/TomsTypeVII400.htm). If you want to improve the AA guns, you can also buy WEM's Kriegsmarine Anti Aircraft Weapons (http://www.steelnavy.com/WEM400GermanAA.htm).

I bought most of the Mirage submarine fleet, and though it takes some time to finish building a kit, it is a great way to show the differences between the subs - types, colours, camo schemes, flak guns, snorchel, radar and radar detector, net cutter, etc... And it doesn't take a lot of space, unlike the 1/72 Revell subs... Fun builds, especially the larger type IX. I learned a lot on those subs while building them! I'm not finished yet, for I still have to build 6 of them - that's why I chose to take a break and go back to the larger, much more convenient, 1/72 and build a Schnellboot for this GB.

You can see a picture of your finished model here:
http://www.steelnavy.com/MirageU826Simard.htm

Cheers

David: Of course you are welcome to join and we look forward to seeing your build. I'll add your name to the front page as soon as I get a chance.

Chris: You really shouldn't encourage Tom like that!

David-ditto on what Rick said-looks good.

Started on the AM Avenger-interior is airbrushed.  However, each time I look at the instructions, I get a bit overwhelmed. This is the older Atlantic Avenger version, so I'm wondering if the instructions are a bit more complete on the newer releases.  I know my SBD-3 Midway wasn't quite as vague as these instructions.  But the detail is there. And I have a pre-painted Eduard Zoom PE set that needs to be installed.  Bottom line is that I'm giving consideration to picking up a Tamiya Wildcat (maybe make a Martlet?) or the Tamiya Beaufighter (a little on the fringe side) and tackling the Avenger later.  Decisions, decisions.....

Bob, the AM Avenger instructions are a little vague, but if you go to their web site, they have an on-line build that may be helpful.

Thanks Rick.  I've checked it out before, but it was quite a while ago.  I just need to take a deep breath and tackle the P.E. then the rest should be easy.

DAVE the drums were thin slices of sprue that i sanded and used a thin slice of strip styrene to represent the straps that were used to remove the drums the barrels and gas cylinders( which cant be seen from this angle unfortunatly they're under the barrels ) are thin brass wire the crossbrace between the barrels is streched sprue. i hope to have some pics of the waist gunner/observer stations soon

Chris - that sure would look good sitting next to my Martlets!!  I saw a kit for one somewhere I believe, or maybe it was a conversion set... that is a possibility one day!  Thanks for the pic!!!  ::nervous twitch from fringe overdose lately::

David - looking good!  I might have to check out one of those kits one day... I'd like to do a sub but the 1/72 ones are a bit big for living quarters right now...

No progress here, got stumped on my Do335 for the BoG GB so slow going...

Well, I got myself sort of caught up in the BoG GB so it’s time to do the same thing here.

First… progress… none…BUT, I am almost done with my Jug for the P-47 GB so I may actually get to start this one before it’s over.Party [party]

Mike – The SBD looks good, looking forward to more pics

Rex – Ouch on the finger but if that is the price for the work on the boat it may be worth it…looks great.

Solid – your wood models never cease to amaze.

Chris – Nice work on the twin Vickers… wow are they tiny.  The Wildcatfish is pretty cool… is that Tom I hear hyper-ventilating in the background?

David - nice work on the U-boat

Thanks every one for the kind words. hillybilly hate to break it to you you cant sink the U-Boat. It surrendered to the HMS Fitzroy in 1945 here is a link http://www.desausa.org/images3/surrender_of_u_826_to_fitzroy.htm . U-826 is not known to have lost any men.
