Battle of the Atlantic Feb. 1 to Aug 1, 2006

Tom it is the Academy 1:72 "Black Cat" PBY-5a.  For 1:72 it is freaking huge!  it totaly dwarfs my Fw-190D for the BoG build!  Though Dave will probably say that it isn't as big as the Sunderland he is doing for the Canadian GB.  BTW Dave, where are you with that one?

Darson, Cool! you should show us some pics of the sky hawk!   I can only hope my child will be interested in modeling.

And I am a build and a half behind schedule. I always knew I would not make the start date but I will be in before the deadline.  I am considering changing my build to an SB2C-4 Helldiver stationed at NAS Atlantic City, NJ.  Hmmm Atlantic City...Battle of the Atlantic... think it will qualify?

Jay just to let you know that you're right and that girls do like to build models.  The oldest daughter and I built an Airfix 1/72 Skyhawk together and while back and that was great fun.  Although she did get to choose the paint scheme which of coarse had to be hot pink, and for decals she found a bunch of butterfly stickers to put on it .

BTW - got my PBY-5a today! It is a really nice kit and I think I'll basically do it OOTB. Now I gotta order some Decals.  Also got me a Hasegawa Spitfire Mk.IX for the Aces GB.

And I'm still wainting on my Canso...

If it is a little boy, I'm going to brainwash-er... raise him right and get him building models.  If it is a little girl (which I have had several dreams about already), I'll raise her right too.  Anyone who says girls should only play with dolls is crazy, I've seen some very nice models done by girls on this forum!

I'll see what I can do Chris.  Things have been kinda crazy/busy lately but I'll give it a shot!

Yeah my missus said she wouldn't mind if i displayed it in the lounge pretty much where it's sitting in the pic but only if it has it's owm display case and only if the display case is stained the same colour as that lowline entertainment unit....

In hindsight it would have to be in it's own case because the little monsters i mean my wonderfull kids would trash it within a week......

That looks awesome Jules, definitely have to add one of those to the collection as soon as I figure out where to put it.  I don't think the missus will let me put it on the fireplace mantel.  I have my eye on the GATO coming out later this year too!  Need to clean out some of my stash though before I can justify buying it.   Thanks for the pic, looking forward to more.

To be honest Richard I wouldn't have a clue, If the kit has a good parts fit and goes together smoothly it shouldn't take long at all but if the kit is like my Supermarine Seaplane from testors with a horrible fit and no detail than it may take months, But with your great skill level in mind i would say that you will have it together fairly quickly..... 

Rex Thanks for the links That is one cool looking U-Boat, looks like i'm gonna have 2 1/72nd scale U-Boats in the collection....

Speaking of the Revell monster U-Boat you all know that i'm doing it for this GB along with the Eduard set and i'm pretty sure that i mentioned the fact that i had already made a start on it before this GB came up but stopped work on it untill the official start date....

Anyways here is a pic of what i have already done, I opened up the hull openings by sanding them out from the inside which seemed easier to me than drilling and filing, the torpedo tubes are also painted and installed and the deck has been glued down, I havn't yet put any of the PE onto the model or done any sanding to make the deck seams go away, that will come next after the GB officially kicks off.....

I stuck a DVD case in front of the model for scale, the whole kit is 93:3 cm long

I checked the kit and there are only a total of 41 pieces.  How long do you think it will take to build this thing?

oh yeah.. lately I have been out of it and almost forgot about this GB...  was reading the last 2 pages and found some interesting conversation!

I'm still thinking the S-100 perhaps with the PE set is the set to do...  I'll update yall when it gets closer!

This is what I could find on the Griffon installed in the Sweafire:

The Seafire XV was the first Griffon-powered Seafire. It combined the wing of the Seafire
III with the fuselage of the Spitfire V and the engine, cowling and prop of the Spitfire XII. The Griffon turned opposite the Merlin, but the "bend" of the airframe was not changed, which led  Griffon Spitfires to swing on takeoff.

Well, I am ready to start. All parts of the kit are accounted for. Will start "cutting" the fuselage block to general shape and then sand. Wood is great, Mahogany, perfectly sanded.
