I finally got an "explaination" from AM about the missing parts in my SBD-3 so tonight I will pick up the build where I left off. Already have the decals for "Operation Torch" coming. I'll get the first pics posted tonight if all goes well.

Looks good Bob.  Double Actions take a bit of practice, especially if you're used to a single, but worth it.

Looking good Jay!!! I knew if I bugged you enough I would evetually get some pictures. By the way, looks like you cleaned out your tackle box to weight the nose of that thing. What size are those wieghts? They look huge in the pictures.

Bob: I still cringe every time I see your lego paint stand! Ingenius it may be but still seems like a waste of good lego to me. The Avenger is looking great though. Keep at it.

I plan to start on the Ju 290 this week if not tonight so pics will follow shortly. Hope you all gave your mom's and wife's a good Mother's day. (I am typing this with dish pan hands)

Jay-Looking good.  You do it all-storage sheds & fine scale models!

Karl-keep us posted on your progress.  I just used a double action for the first time-think the paint was a bit thin.  Still struggling with finding the right mix.  The white was applied with a single action-the grey with a double action (T&C Omni 4000).  Think I'm gonna like it-just gonna take some practice.

Jay, looking good there.

Hope you get your PC fully sorted soon.

Guys, thanks for the kind words about the Greif.

Progress Update

I've spent most of the last week applying the RLM 76, and it's been a complete pain in the arse.

I've tried thinning the paint, and applying at low pressure to achieve the soft edge without over spray....

.....no joy.

OK. time for something different, against all common sense, I ended up cranking up the pressue to 35psi, and leaving the paint at the normal spraying consistency.

It's not perfect, but, it's definitely better.

I'll post some pictures when it looks halfway decent.

I doesn't help I just picked up the Hasegawa 1/32 Fw 190A-5 at my LHS at a bargain price!!!!

Hey Karl, your build is looking better and batter all the time. I'm sure you'll get the decals sorted out and that pit looks fabulous!!!

Bob, you're a sucker for punishment like the rest of us. ;)

Jay, Ya right. (shaking my head in disbelief)

As for me I hope to get started on the Ju 290 shortly. How is everone else doing?

Sorry I haven't done much in this build yet.  I've been wrestling with my FW190 for the Battle for Germany GB and wrapping up my F4F for the Carrier GB.  I've got the Helldiver out and ready to continue after I put the last touches on the FW tonight.

Karl-very nice work.  And don't sweat the decal.  I should be so lucky...which leads me into my Avenger story...finished the gun turret and canopy.  Bullet-proof glass shield 'fell out' in the assembly process.  And though I tried to follow the AM instructions 'to the letter', this turret will not be 'fully functional'!  I love the detail on this kit but the fit & instructions still frustate me.  So much so that I ordered the AM B-25 C/D from the Squadron Hanger sale....

Karl, your build is looking great to me!  Don't sweat the "innaccuracies" as they are very minor and most people wouldn't know the difference, even among those on these forums.  Smile [:)]

Is there anyone home?

It's awful quiet around here...........

.....anyway.

Progress Update

Fitted all the guns and the canopies, had a go at creating the rubber boots that go between the canopy and the gun to keep out the draught from tissue soaked in PVA, not sure how this is going to look, but has to be better than the yawning great gaps that were there before. Here's a shot of the pit with the IP and yoke installed.

Managed to forget to fit the ammo belt and guide wires before sealing up the pit! Banged Head [banghead]

Still, RLM 65 went on, highlighted all the imperfections, which I then spent the morning sorting out. Next up was the RLM 74 and a coat of Future.

Decals went on last night. The aircraft code should be 6N + EM, but after attempting to make a red E from sections of decal, I gave up, so this machine is going to have an incorrect serial.Sad [:(]

I think it looks very modern with the two tone scheme, alright without the swastika that is!

The kit supplied Balkan Kreuz for the under wings are not only printed askew, but too small. So I attempted to make new ones from a set of spare Eagle Editions ones, the less said about that the better, as now I'm going to have to sand them off and apply some, incorrect, but better looking ones instead.

Now for the RLM 76......

Karl

BTW, you do realise that 6 computer years is equivalent to 60 human years.

Sounds like your PC is in need of pensioning off.

Progress Update

Wings are on, as are the rear stabs. Will finish painting all the guns etc today, so that I can install the canopies and close up ready for painting.

I'll be looking forward to those pics Jay.  Congradulations on the Oilers, after a 14 year abscence I think I can finally stomach another battle of Alberta.  Of course, Calgary has to beat Anaheim first!Wink [;)]

Finished my warm up build last night.  These are Tamiya's 1/700 "O" class destroyers and are built straight out of the box.

The Offa:

Looking great so far Karl.  That is a big model, even in 1/72.  Think I'll pass on the upcoming 1/48 release.

Bob:  Looking good... the model that is! Wink [;)]

Karl:  What can I say... there is a pool of drool on the key board (ick!).  The pit looks awesome.  I really want to do one of those someday.

Chris:  Looking forward to seeing some progress pics.  You and Jay have been teasing us with these progress updates on your flying boats but neither of you have produced any pics!Disapprove [V]

My Progress:  The Offa and the Onslow are both fully assembled and painted awaiting decals and some weathering which if all is quiet on the home front should happen tonight.  Pics tomorrow. Smile [:)]  Then it is on to the JU 290.  Karl thinks his build is big... wait till you see this monster!

Bob, nice progress on the Avenger.

Progress Update

The fusealge halves are together, if not cleaned up. The bomb bay is complete, as are the wings and engines, so here a few photos...

This is a big machine even in 1/72, I hate to think of the size of the MPM version in 1/48...

The pit is built, but I'll refrain from adding seats etc until all the seam clean up is complete.

And I've found a decidedly 'Fringe' camo scheme...
