I don't think it would be a big deal.  The point of the GB is to build an Ace, Lilya is an ace so that fills that part of the criteria.  As long as you have fun, go for it! See you in April!

Is there a rule about doing the same kit that someone else is doing on the list?... I have the Yak-1 flown by Lilia Latvyak and I have been wanting to knock it out for a while.

Looking forward to this build, I have all my goodies ready, resin aftermarked cockpit, black magic masks, cutting edge decals, reference material (which I've been pouring over almost daily lol... it's an obsession).  Tongue [:P]

Put me down for the 1/32 Trumpeter P-40 (Warhawk Mk. IIA) flown by R.T. Smith with the AVG.  I've seen his kill count listed as 8.25, 8.67 and 8.9.  Not sure which is the correct number.

I just ordered my decal set and an aftermarket cockpit (the cutting edge set).  This will be my first attempt with an AM resin cockpit, looking forward to it!  :)

OK, I'm in, if that cool.  A Tamiya 1/48 P-51D Mustang, for John C. Meyer.  Meyer shot down 24 aircraft, including a jet.  Later, as a jet pilot himself, he took out 2 more jets in Korea.  He was the only pilot to be awarded the DSC 3 times.  Overall, the 7th highest American pilot of all time.  As for why I chose him...well, the Tamiya kit was opened, and it included decals for him.  (I got as far as painting 1 part, no. A17, the wrong colours, I guess that's OK for this GB?)

Hello Jules, I'm putting together a collection of all the major contributing countries top aces aircraft of ww1 in 1/32 and I'm looking for a pic of Little's Camel so I can accurately represent it.  I dont know if they do his decals in 1/32 but I figure if I can find a pic I can replicate them easy enough.  I was wondering if you know where I can find a pic or if you have one you can post or email to me.  Anyway I'm stoked to be in on my first group build, any help you can give me would be great.  Thanks, TL

Good luck to ya mate, i did an exaustive search for a pic or colour plate of Littles Camel or Camels, he appears to have flown quite a few and come up with nothing, i even contacted the Australian war memorial at Canberra and still nothing, I did however find a pic of a SQD lineup that was taken about 4 weeks after his death and all the Camels appear to be the same scheme but as far as personal markings are concerned i have no idea....Australias highest ever scoring ace and the only pics i could find were of his Triplanes and Sopwith Pup.......

Anyway have a look here  http://www.theaerodrome.com/aces/australi/little1.html

Chris I'll have a look at the LHS today cause i think they have a few Soviet kits from A/M not sure whether or not it's the Yak but i'll have a look.....

Darren & Jay i managed to get my Spitfire MK VIII kits from hasegawa for $25:00 AU, the MK VIII is the same as the MK IX just different boxing, I ended up grabbing 3 of them 2 of which i've built and the 3rd went to Tweets, in hindsight i should have bought all of them cause they will never be back at that price again.....

Jay, good pickup with the Hasegawa Spit!!!! Around here the Revell kit retails for about $30 AUS while any of the Hasegawa Spits retails for about $55 AUD.

The main issue with the Revell kit is actually finding one in stock.  Word has got around that it's the Hasegawa kit re-boxed and so they are very hard to find.

Cheers

Darson, you would think that is the case, I could swear when I first saw the Revell Spitfires on the shelf here they were $19 cdn, but then last week I saw one for $32 and the yesterday when I bought my  Spitire, the Revell one was $36.  I don't know if there was some sort of shortage or what but they seam to have really gone up in price!Disapprove [V]  I picked my Hasegawa Spitfire up for $25. Big Smile [:D] Actually it is the one in the IDF box but all the parts are there to make a Mk.IXc which is what Doug Lindsey flew.

KingThad, could you tell me what ace you will doing for the P-47 and I'll add it to the front page.  Also the build doesn't start until April, do you really want to start now?Confused [%-)]

Hey Jay, for future reference Revell AG are now re-boxing the Hase Spitfire Mk.IX at about two thirds the price of the Hasegawa kit.
I know what brand of Spitfire Mk.IX I'll be buying from now on.

Cheers

ModelMaster Russian Top Side Green is a good match.  Any flat Black is close enough.

Hmmm, I miss Red Dwarf, I used to watch it all the time but I can't find it on any channels anymore.  Gotto love those campy British space comedies ( I also loved the old Doctor Who's, The ones with Tom Baker as the "Doctor" were the best!).

I do not know any paint references for Soviet tractor paints, sorry
