Jay, things have been a tad quiet a work this week so it's given me the chance to do a little research on my build.  I have looked at a heap of Wolf Pack P-47s and finally found one that really grabbed me, it's a P-47D-25-RE named Miss Fire/Rozzie Geth II flown by Capt. Fred Christensen Jr., 62 Fighter Squadron, 56 Fighter Group.

Here's a pic

Cheers

Hmmm.. I heard my name posted and I appear.. of course I have a few unknown aces in mind... I'll get back with you on this one... I gotta add some fringe to this!  April is a good start date.. the roof should be fixd by then and my new model room built.

I remember a page I saw out here the other day that interested me... I just gotta find out who it was exactly.  I know he was not flying a plane you would expect an ace to fly.. (P-51, P-47 etc...)

an aces group build. well lets see what i have going on,  i have 1 f-18 hornet  group build and a-7 corsair II group build going on right now and i belive thats all i have on the bench right now and another hornet group build  going to start on the super hornet here on fsm sometime in april 2006. i do have a f-4 u cosair and a f-6-f hellcat in the stash  and plenty of aces markings. i think i can squeeze these two builds in before the turkey sesaon kicks off, so you can count me in.

Dave for a Canadian Corsair, check out www.canmilair.com I'm thinking of ordering Lt. Hornells Canso decals from this guy. He might have Don Sheppard's decals.  Make sure you sand down the wing tips to make them clipped!

If you just picked up a F-6F Hellcat, why not Bill Atkinson's FAA bird , he was a 6 victory ace in the Pacific. And he is still surviving in Vancouver!, maybe you could go visit him?

I'll add you to the front.

Okay Jay, you can put me down for a 1/72 Academy Corsair. The kit decals are for Blackburn and DeLong but if I can scare up a decal set for Don Sheppard's mount I'd rather do that one. I'll see what I can dig up in the next few months but for now put me down for Blackburn's Big Hog.

Jay put me done as a starter for this one please.  I will probably build a P-47 from the 56FG (The Wolf Pack), but whose I have no idea just at the moment.

First off you need a webhost for pictures, I use Photobucket.  Then make a picture (.bmp, .jpg, .tif, .gif) you want to use in your sig.  My GB badges and the current project pic of the three planes are two separate images.  To grab the GB badge, right click on the badge you want and download it your computer, then add it and what ever else you want in the signature pic to your photobucket account and use the [img] tags for the pic you want.

To use the [img] tags, you must go into the update your profile.  In the signature box add any text you want and to add the pic.  The [img] tags will be addd to the text in the sig box and will look like this: [+img+]http://the addressofyourhost/youacct/thename_of_the_pic [/img+].  I added the + symbol or else it would try to find the non-existant pic I tried to point it to. take the + out.

To add an avatar, save a pic of yourself or what ever you want to use (like my Conan!) on your hard drive some where and use the browse button in the avatar section to go to that spot where you saved the pic, hit update. it will take a few minutes for it to appear.

Also be careful of the size of the image as there are supposedly limits for sig pics according to the sticky post near the top of the GB section!

go nuts dude!

...Hope this helps!

Hey Jay, can you point me to the thread where it explains how to post pictures as part of your signature.  The FS faq tells what avatar is but nothing seems to happen when I follow the spartan instructions.  It says my remote avatar is disabled, but i've enabled it by checking the above box.  I'm at a loss, is there a probation period ?  I want a pic next to my name!  WAAHHH!  Any help is much abliged.  Thanks TL

Oh my bad, I looked right at the "Allied Aces" and ignored it.  Since its allies, I'll probably do the Czech ace Karel Kuttelwascher's night fighting Hurricane or NZ Falkland Grey's Mk XIV Spit.  I've got warbirds conversion kit including the wings which would give me good resin experience.

Waikong, that is such a cool and interesting subject! I've never heard of him.  That is why I love these GBs!  You get to learn all sorts of neat things.  I will add you to the front page!

Tanky, don't be so hard on yourself, I didn't realize it but for being such a Famous French ace of WW1 he only had 13 victories, he was a pow for part of the war though.

Did you know that all of John D. Landers's aircraft had the name Big Doll or some sort of deriviative? His P-40 in New Guinea was called "Big Doll".  I would love to build that P-40 but I have never seen a decal set for it.  I guess I should look a little harder.

This looks interesting and plenty of time to start. I would like to join with something different, a 1/48 Classic Airframes Curtiss Hawk III bi-plane in the markings of pilot Arthur Chin - Chinese/American Ace (born in Portland, Orgeon) with 9 kills before he was shot down and wounded in 1939.  Recoginzed as one of America's first aces in WWII by  Hall of Fame of the American Airpower Heritage Museum. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1995.

Jules - Right on, will add you to the front page.Thumbs Up [tup]

Tanky - Wooverstone8 is doing Rickenbacker, and actually Nungessers is a Spad XIII.

Deathbringer, Sorry but Visconti flew for Fascist Italy, allied with Nazi Germany so he is not valid for this build. You must pick an allied ace.

Hey there Jay, found the site.  I think I'll do Adriano Visconti from Italy.  TheCraftworks Macchi 202/05 was the first kit I got on my quest to aquire all the aces aircraft. I just love the lines of the Greyhound especially in that mottled grey camo.  Plus I got that book on how to build resin models which features the Craftworks kit.  I figure its a perfect time to tackle the resin beast figurin since three other of my kits are resin also.  The buffalo, P-51B, La-5 are all resin as is the conversion kits for my three different Spitfires.  All I'm waitin on is a 1/32 Tempest so I can do Closteterman.  I could do another Spit but I've got three different ones as it is. Sorry to ramble just stoked to be amongst brethren.

Nieuport scout (later switched to SE5)

P-51D mustang "Glamorous Glennis III"

La-7

F6F Hellcat "Minsi"

Hawker Hurricane (also flew spitfires occasionally)

P-51D Mustang "Big Beautiful Doll"

Spitfire MK IXc

P-38 Lightning ("Marge" and picture of his wife on the side)

Nieuport 17

I think that about covers it. Big Smile [:D] Oh BTW, if I do do my La-7 for this build it might be for soviet ace Alexei Sergeivich Kumanichkin -35 victories.

Someone really should do Eddie Rickenbacker for this build.

BTW (again) is anyone planning an "Axis Ace" GB? I mean someone needs to build Richthofen, Hartmann, Galland, Bar, Marseilles, Wick, Hahn, Immelman, Udet, Lowenhardt, and of course Boelcke.

How did I know you'd be the first...Don't underestimate yourself Tanky. You had an idea on the last one and your idea was correct, yes I picked Bong's P-38.  What you get is my undying adoration and praise for being an excellent study of all things about ACES!

Now for the second part of the challenge! you forgot their mounts!Wink [;)]

This is shaping up to be a good one!....One question for everyone...does anyone have  two spare 1/72 black 6 decals for Yeager's NMF Glamorous Glennis III? (you know the funny looking "long necked" one)  I checked my research material last night and found I will need these for the OD Green P51D-5 model I plan to do...I do not have these in my spares and have a hard time justifying purchasing an entire sheet for two small decals...trade would be good and I will cover postage for sure...
