I checked and Arrowgraphics makes one for 1:48. I found a couple pics of the Hobbycraft vampire with those decals and it looks pretty neat. Smile [:)]

Cool looking project Jay, didn't know you were into stovepipes.

I am in the same predicament as everyone else as far as a start date goes. I have this scheduled in for the month of May I believe but I am behind schedule by at least a month so June/July be more likely. Looking forward to it though.

Well, I'm not really into jets but I really like that bat face Tongue [:P]

. Also I also kind of have a soft spot for the early jets, like the vampire, sabre, mig-15, shooting star. They seem to have a bit of a throwback to the props where you still had to get on the tail of your enemy and use your guns to take him down. None of that sitting 25 kms away and pressng a button and off goes your missle, and you don't even have to see your enemy!

One week to go...well more or less any way...alot of you, myself included have committed to other builds, work, births of first children and just living beyond the work bench. No worries on the start dates..in fact there may be more people jumping in, heck they did last year as well...

Joe.....I've been flying under the radar lately, but checking in on the chatter from time to time. Here's my problem. I wanted to build a 262, which I have in my stash, but I remembered I purchased a $20. resin detail set to go with it. OOOOPPs!! I could always buy duplicate kit, but I was wondering if you would have any suggestions for an alternate subject that would fit this catagorie. I need decals as well. Any thoughts.

Okay...it is First Jets...I know this may go against your grain, but...how about

the first Air Force One jet...I think it was a 707. There are some AM decals sets out there, check out www.modelingmadness.com on decals review.

The other suggestion is a P80. With a MiG or P80 and the right application of national specific decals I don't think you could go wrong. How about a Mexican Air Force bird, I think they first used the Shooting Star.

How about everyone else? What suggestions do you have for Jerry? Any thing he does will be great so don't hesitate to jumpo in with a suggestion!

MMMmmmm.....Air Force One. I'll have to think about that one. At least that would be different. I wonder who makes a decent 707 kit? It's too bad I've already completed my A37. I could have used VNAF markings. I'm pretty sure the Dragonfly was their first jet. The Mig sounds interesting. Aaaaaaahhhhhh......I'll come up with something.

Finally an excuse to build one of my Collect-Aire kits or other resin kits. The 1/48 scale PBM Mariner from Pend Orielle Models is looking like a strong candidate.

Interesting you mention a Mariner, I think it qualifies! Hint: "Thin Red Line". 2nd Hint: Start date will be August 7. This one is going to go for a year, so get the "extras" out!

Enough of that...back to this one...hey Jerry, have you got something yet? Whatever it is I am sure it will be A grade work!

My Vampire has not yet shown up...bit disappointing...everyone else is set and ready...now hours away from the start...

As soon as I finish my Beaufighter and N1-M, the 1/48 PBM Mariner will be on my Current and Subsequent Projects list. The timing will be interesting for the resin group build... I'm planning on incorporating fiber optics on my P-61B... that'll be a challenge of a build.

Just over 2 hours for me until start time (London, England). Thought I'd show the kit I'm preparing to build. As you can see, not much to it! It's the ex-FROG kit, now built in Russia. Or rather, USSR, as it says on the little plastic plaque projection.

It's not the most accurate kit either, but there is no accurate kit of this aircraft, the first allied jet. Loads of flash of course, but one guesses that that moulds haven't been kept in the best condition either.

Here's the box. Seems that this kit is now being marketed by Chematic of Poland

Hey Joe if I finnish my Meteor before the deadline I may do a F-100 Super Sabre if I remember it was the first american jet to fly a sustained airspeed of MACH 1 in level flight

Advantages of a 1970's FROG kit, and being 5 hours ahead of New York, is that you can be half finished in a model, before others have started. I know it's not a race, or a mad GB, but anyway, here are some progress pics. Next step is plenty of lovely sanding... (one small change I made was to use the masses of flash to block up the fuselage, to seeing right through it. I mean, it's still OOB, no?)

Welcome to you and the F84E. This was a great example of why GB are cool. I never knew the first Jet to Korea was the Thunderjet...

Still no Vampire for me...I am holding on till my son (7yrs. old) is finshed with his first build I am helping him with...should be starting on Monday night.

Thanks Rick. This old FROG kit is strange. It actually fits fairly well, with no filler for the top of the fuselage, and just a smidgen on the bottom. The thing is, the plastic used is really tough, making sanding a wee bit difficult. Naturally, being raised panel lines, I'm losing some detail here and there. Well the fuselage went together well as did the major wing assembely including the "Slug" nose weight, I got started on the landing gear bay/ cockpit but i want to paint and "Spruce up" the pilots office before getting too far ahead thats all for me today TTFN !

Ditto on the start of my FR-1. The N-1M is still occupying the workbench and I'll probably get it done this coming weekend. Just the props, pitot tube, and a nice glossy Future finish to seal the N-1M up and the Fireball is on stage. There's yellow everywhere... it ain't a pretty sight.

Well Joe...went to the LHS....no Mig 15's, no P80's, no 707's, so I picked up another 262 so I guess I'm back to plan A. I don't have any markings yet, but looking for something interesting. At least I can get started. I haven't built one of these yet, but it looks like a gem in the box. There's some pretty sweet Luftwaffe camo schemes available.

Joe..I just ordered two decal sheets from Squadron. Eagle Strike's "Too Little Too Late." part 2 and 3. There's 8 different choices and all of them look great. I should be able to decide on something from these.

Oh yeah....My Scooter is #27 in the Modeling Madness contest. I need all the help I can get. Maybe I'll get a couple of votes. Polease oh please oh please.
