Thanks Joe. Question, are PE belts within the rules?

here you go Jerry:

CONSTRUCTION. The modeler may fill seams and gaps; sand off rivets; drill out gun ports, exhaust pipes, or other appropriate openings; thin to scale such parts as trailing edges, flaps, and doors; add rigging and antennas; and add simple tape or decal seat belts in the cockpit of an aircraft or the interior of a vehicle (NO commercial or modeler-manufactured hardware - e.g., buckles, etc.).

The official National IPMS rules don't allow PE seat belts, unless included in the kit, but most local & Regional IPMS events waive that rule.  I'd say for this GB they would be OK, but final call is up to Joe.

Howdy!

Jerry,

I know that as a Brown's guy you may be used to certain accomidations, like the ref's pitySmile,Wink, & Grin [swg], but due to the fact that we are "international" I would like to stick to IPMS rules.  Sorry...

Rick

Did you make that show in Detroit?

Joe, I wasn't able to make the Show.  Some unexpected Out of Towners came in to visit.  Hated to miss the Show, but old friends are more important.

Not salt, more like lemons...the alleged late hit on one Mr. Brian Sipe, causing 15 yard penalty in 1978 playoffs...Believe me, come mid to late October there is a strong chance I will be eating some crow!

By the way I voted for you again from my secretary's terminal when she was at lunch today...at this point you've got three #1's.  Your 'hawk is really top notch!

Wrapping up my projects for the Battle for Germany and the Carrier planes group builds.  Tracking down some aftermarket decals for my 1/48 Tamiya ME262 A-1a, and looking to begin building this puppy this weekend or early next week.

The box is "officially" open and the parts are being inspected. Should be able to get a few things glued together on the FR-1 by the end of the weekend.

I made some progress recently and thought I'd show you some pics. For those of you who've never built the Tamiya kit, the entire nose gear well is solid metal. I thought that was a clever feature cause no additional weight is needed to keep the tail up. My decals arrived Sat.but I still haven't decided on markings. Sorry bout the belts, it's all the box has to offer.

How's ever

yone else doing?

Desdinova,

Welcome to you and the F84E.  This was a great example of why GB are cool.  I never knew the first Jet to Korea was the Thunderjet...

I actually think the first jet to Korea was the P-80, I'm not sure. Even if it was, the F-84 was right behind it.

The only noteworthy "first" I can think of for the F-84 right now is that it was the USAF's first post-war jet, so I guess it still counts.

Dont forget the F84 was the first jet built by Republic aviation the guys who brought us such wonderful aircraft as the P47 and much later the A-10 Thunderbolt II.( by that time as Republic/Fairchild ) The F84 was also designed from the outset with ground attack in mind as it had been designed to carry a much larger payload than the P/F80. The F84 was also THE FIRST single seat fighter bomber designed with an Atomic capability http://www.ascho.wpafb.af.mil/korea/chap5.htm

Update on my Fireball: Fuselage closed and wings on.... and a ton of putty and sanding ahead. This is a limited run kit and the fit problems show.

Just found out the radial piston engine on the Fireball I just assembled is too big for the nascelle. DOH! Gonna have to disassemble the engine, sand down the pistons and reassmble. Something tells me I wouldn't have had this problem if I went with a true jet like the P-59 or P-80 rather than the dual powered FR-1.

Looks great!  What are you using color wise?

Chris

Post some pics if you can

Ryan

Looking good.

Desdinova

I think the F84 qualifies premised upon the first nuke capable single seater.

Just as a reminder if everyone would go to www.modelingmadness.com and vote #27 (right Jerry?) as Number 1 in the "Scooters" contest one of our members would really appreciate it!

Thanks Joe and Marc. The cockpit is RLM 66, the cannons are gunmetal MM Metalizer, and the rest is Alclad Aluminum. References indicate a yellowish anti-corrosive coating over the aluminun in the gun bay, so I sprayed a light coat of clear yellow over the Alclad.

Quagmyre.....that's coming along nicely.

And thanks Joe for the voting heads-up. There are some very nice Skyhawks entered. I'll be happy just to get some votes.

The 2 1/2 week break is over.  I started painting and gluing the cockpit on the Airacomet.  Thinning some of the out of scale stuff, like the exhaust nozzles.  Those were only about an inch and a half thick in scale.

And I need a ruling.  If the OOB rules say you are allowed AM decals…does that include instruments for the IP?

I'm going to start work tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to this one.

I want to keep this simple so I'm just going to go with the kit decals.

I also picked up an Academy F-86 in 1/48 while I was at the LHS, and it seems like a great kit. How does it compare to Hasegawa's?

Good question on the IP...I have to say it is a go.

On the F86 try looking in the review section at www.modelingmadness.com.  This is also where you can vote for #27 "Old Man's Clunker" {Smile [:)]} in the Scooters Contest.

The site is a good one for review and previews of a wide variety of subject matter.

Hey Desdinova.

I've built both the Hasegawa and the Academy F-86's and the Academy was a better build. Which was quite a suprise to me. Fit was better and the detail seemed to be better.  The Academy kit gives you a gunbay and the Hasegawa kit does not.
