Battle of Britain GB 2006 - 1 May to 31 Oct 06
Posted by darson on Saturday, March 25, 2006 5:49 AM

Yes its that time again guys!!

Situation Report
What General Weygand called the Battle of France is over, the Battle of Britain is about to begin – Winston Churchill 1940.
It's July 1940 and England is alone with the might of the German army and airforce expected across the channel any day, the only thing that stands between the Germans and the British people is the RAF.  Hopelessly outnumbered they must fight for the survival of their homeland in one of the most crucial battles of WWII.

Roster

Awaiting Squadron Assignment

Chris (PanzerWulff), Sean (tweety1) & Thad (KINGTHAD)

Badges
I have included three sizes for you to choose from so take your pick. I will ask that you please host the badge yourself to ease the burden on my Photobucket bandwidth, thanks.

Rules of Engagement
The rules for this are going to be the same as last year actually and are still fairly simple:

2. Any scale
3. OOB or as much PE & Aftermarket as you want.
4. The start date for the group build is May 1st 2006 with the completion date being Oct 31st 2006.
5. This build is open to everyone regardless of modeling skills
6. This current thread will be used for the group build

Darren - I am in... not sure with what yet... first I have to do some heavy research and find something not on the list Wink [;)]  One thing though, in the title your dates are correct, but according to the dates in the text this started 3 months ago  Laugh [(-D]

ok I've thought long enough... A warm up AC for the first of the build will be the Academy 1/72 BF-109 E4 "Heinz Bar"  but I'll have to do some fringe to counterract that as a second build.

P.S - That's a brilliant roster!

Man oh man. I need in on this GB but I have to see if a) I have time or b) I have a kit that works.

Don't worry Darren , I was going to keep quiet and secretly start building realizing maybe the others wouldn't have noticed... I would have displayed my completed pics on 2 May..  Laugh [(-D]

Love the roster!  OK, I'm definately in.  Still have to finalise the Spit and bf-110 from the BoB'05 though...and now I have a date to get them done by!  As for this time...another Tamiya Spitfire Mk.1a 1/48 scale; and this time it will be done and completed on before the end of the GB.

Hey guys it's great to see all the usual suspects reporting in Thumbs Up [tup].  I should have saved my time and just pre-populated the roster with everybody’s names to begin with Big Smile [:D].

Oh yeah, sorry about the date confusion, it was late last night (early hours of the morning) when I was setting this up and I was pretty tired.  The correct dates should now appear which are 1 May to 31 Oct 06.

Cheers

Sign me up Darren, I just ordered a Fiat Br. 20 M (Italeri 1/72) last week in anticipation of this GB. Woohoo!

Edit: Does that classify as fringe?

You're damn right it does Dave.

All I have to do now is find a site with Regia Aeronautica ranks for WWII Wink [;)]

Darren, I'm, probably going to regret this, but put me down for a RA CR42.

I feel like being Capitano Carlo for this one!

Just realised I already have a full set of decals for 3 different BoB machines from the other CR 42 I built, so all I'm going to need is the kit and some PE.

Probably go with Italeri kit in 1/48 again.

Carlo

Darren - sure... you have everything going fine till someone comes in and wants to throw a wrench in the gears!  ::sideways look at Karl and Dave::  Wink [;)]

I would think if this is a Capitano Carlo plane then Cpt. KJ200 would work.  Their ranks mimiced the US ranks, Sottotenente, Tenente, Capitano etc...  If Dave isn't modeling a specific one then Sottotenente or Tenente would be his title.

(thinking I should change my plane to Polish RAF one and demand I be listed by my Polish rank just to one up Karl  and Dave and further cause Darren to do deeper research) Wink [;)]

Count me in!!!!

Love this topic of GB, gives me ANOTHER chance to do a 109!!!Party [party]

Maybe this time I might actually get round to ordering that Boulton Paul Defiant I've been yabbering about since the first BoB GB...............

Anyways, time to start searching for a funky 'fringe' camo scheme for the 109!!!!!!!

edit:: Forgot to say 'Thanks' for the GIF animator Darson. Real easy to use!!!!

As buried as I am in GBs right now, I can't pass this one up.  Put me down for the Tamiya 1/48 Me109 E-7.  I've been wanting to build this puppy for a while now, just need the motivation to do it.

Thanks Tom, it will be great to be building with you and the others too.  Never quite worked out your Krips reference, but it was fun reading about it!  Had a bit of a modelling break after the BoB'05 GB, but I'm really back into modelling again.  Just...even after cutting down the number of models part built on my worktop (20+) by putting some into the spares/experiment box, my desk is still full!!!  I really must learn to stop starting models before others are finished, but then a wonderful new GB comes along...!

Osher: I know exactly how you feel! Darren and others, I found a really good site of the RA in the BoB here, http://surfcity.kund.dalnet.se/falco_bob.htm It has a wonderful colour photo of the Br 20 as well as a good history of their Ops. Tenente sounds like a good rank to me. Capitano sounds like way to much responsibility.

OK guys I think I have now updated the roster for everybody that has declared their build so far.  Please let me know if I have somehow missed you out Blush [:I].

I have also sharpened up the GB badges a lot and I'm much happier with them now.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Oberleutnant J. N. Boutin Berichten für Pflicht!

Ich werde einen 1:72 Messerschmitt Bf-110c bauen.

This is sooo cool Darren! Thumbs Up [tup] I love the roster board, ever thought of doing it in parts?, one for the Luftwaffe builders, one for the Reggia Aeronautica and one for the RAF?  By any chance did you take the idea from the Red Baron 3d game?  It look exactly like the roster in that game.

I am so pumped about this one.Big Smile [:D]  I've been waiting with my model since last summer!  Nice to see some Italian aircraft this time around!

BTW, Darren, I think you still have my animated .gif you made for me a few months back.  If you still have it would you be able to added the new BoB 06 badge to it and resend it to me?  thanks a million!
