Ryan don't sweat the small stuff.  It's a heck of a lot better than some of the spellings I get.

Mike welcome to the build it's good to have you on board and it's also good to see someone doing a heavy.

Cheers

I just picked up the FSM BoB decals last night and they look fabulous.  I am definately going to build more of the aircraft offered in the set.  Right now though I will just concentrate on the Bf-110c.

I don't believe the FW190 was in service yet.  If you want a German fighter look to the Bf109 E.  I believe the E1, E3, E4 and E7 variants all played a part in the Battle of Britain.

I think the first fw-190's came into service in 1942.Almost 2 years after the BoB ended.

I believe the Fw190 first came into service in early 1941 and soon dominated the Spitfire MkVs that started in service about the same time.  It wasn't until the Spitfire Mk IX came on the scene in 1942 that the Fw190 had a match.  So no, the Fw190 did not participate in the BoB

Can I get in on this? I picked up a Revell 1/48 Spitfire Mk. II with markings for Douglas Bader's aircraft. I've always enjoyed reading about him.

I think I'll keep it simple- OOB and a little scratchbuilding.

JWB, did Bader fly the Spitfire in the BoB?  I thought he had only flown the Hurricane and got the Spitfire mkII during the winter of 1940-41.  Maybe I'm wrong...

Dave, Your picks are good, I am okay with what is left.  The only issue is where can I get a 1:72 Do17 kit?  Airfix makes one but is supposedly for the E varient.  I did a quick search but couldn't find one for the P or Z varients that are on the decal sheet.  Which would you prefer, I would like the Z decals.

Good question- I'm not sure. I'll check on it.

Wonder if Mk. II's were used in BoB at all?
------------------------------------------------

Did some further research- turns out the Mk. II was used (not by Bader, though). What's interesting is that one Mk. II, P7350, was used by 266 Squadron and 603 (City of Edinburgh) AuxAF Squadron during the BoB. That same plane is now the Mk. II used by the BoB Memorial Flight! How about that?

This link tells about it. Now I just need to find some decals......

Tom-my LHS has one that has been sitting on the shelf for a couple of years.  However, the box art shows it as a night fighter.  Do you know if the kit contains the parts to make the 'retro' version?

Thanks

I have the kit at home and will get back to you this evening, unless someone else answers your question before then.  I know the kit can be made as a night fighter or day, but not sure if it covers earlier variants of the C... I'll have to check the kit.

I believe the C variant went into service in the latter half of the Battle of Britain, with the C-6 entering service in September of 1942 (need to check my references to be sure).  I have both of the Squadron in Action books on the Ju-88 at home, parts 1 and 2 which should 2 great Ju-88 references at home if anyone needs any info.  I'll have to check the kit though to be sure what can be made from it.

Darren, would a 1:1 scale wooden 6x8 shed be appropriate for this GB?Propeller [8-]  (didn't the RAF use such things?) Laugh [(-D]

I ordered  a garden shed package the other day and it just got delivered to my house.  Now, I have all the pieces and must spend the next few weeks building the shed. Yet taking more time away from the plastic addictionWink [;)].  I have to build a cement block pad for it first though (hence the multiple weeks).  so this is going to be a slow process I think, maybe as long as one of my models!

I love to build things and I think I can apply my modelling skills to the shed, hopefully I'll get a good representation but I think I'll leave off the weathering for now (and let that happen naturally).  Somehow I think it'll be a rather big task for the airbrush, I might have to resort to good ol' bristles!Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Jon welcome to this years Battle of Britain GB, I'll put you on the flight roster tonight when I get home.  Are you looking for decals for any Mk.II, or specifically for P7350?  If it's any Mk.II you after then check out Aeromaster's site as they have a few decals for early Spits.

Jay I'm definitely looking forward to some progress pics on your Mk.I Garden Shed and I'm especially looking forward to see how you weather it Thumbs Up [tup].

Bob I think from memory that the Monogram Pro-Modeler Ju-88 does have the parts for the retro version but you are best to get real confirmation from Scott.

Cheers

Bob - I think it does have the parts... they are not called out in the instructions, but are those dark shaded parts on the pic of the sprues... (the "not used in this version" parts)  I can't remember, so since Scott still has his kit maybe he can answer it.  I remember looking at it for the last BoB and thinking it was possible to do it...

EDIT - unless you already have that kit it is a moot point, I remember the extra parts were for an R-1 which worked, but it is out of production so that won't help...   Revell DE does an A4 though that would fit the bill nicely!

Jay:  What kind of camo are you going to go with on the Mk 1 garden shed?  Is it German made or Commonwealth?  I'd love to hear you explain to your wife why you painted it with a mottle!! Clown [:o)]

Anyone else get that feeling... when you just can't seem to build anything OOB?!

See for this build I had a nice easy Tamiya 1/72 kit with AM decals planned. Yay! No fit problems, and nice detail. But then.... look! Detail moulded directly onto the sidewalls? That can't be good. And... ooohhh look here CMK has some nice resin stuff.

So now I have an Aires resin cockpit and a CMK engine set for it... There goes my nice quick build.

But then again it will look nice to have a superdetailed 1/72 bf-109e to go along with my superdetailed 1/72 spitifre mk.1
