Bear: Too bad about the masking tape confiscation. You'll need to work a little faster next time. Thanks for the get well wish but unfortunately I feel like I got ran over by a freight train this morning.

As for the He 111 Hasa kit I built the H-6 version (which is not correct for this time frame) and it was a pleasure to put together except I still managed to muck it up. I snipped the wheel wells out with the wings and didn't mark them, ended up instaling them in the wrong wings. Didn't notice until I went to put the landing gear on. Doh!!!

Karl - who makes the decal set for the He111 you were speaking of?  I'm interested inthat as I have had good and bad experiences with Hasegawa decals...

Dave - I think I am going to install the windows with guns attached then cut off the barrels, OR just not glue the ones with guns as well and use some sort of needle or such to pop them out and put the guns in before replacement.

After looking into it, it looks possible to do a He111-H4 from the H6 boxing, the weapons would be right (flexible, forward facing 20mm) and the only other big (i.e. noticable to me) difference is the powerplant size.. I'm doing the H6 and calling it an H4, and if all else, just PRETEND the anamolies don't exist haha...

Dave  Yup definetly have to be faster with the tape next time.  I'm sorry to hear your still feeling yukky hopefully you'll doge the next CPR express  trainSmile [:)]

One of my LHS has the same one Karl showed us  I think it's going for 38$ cdn (I could be wrong on the price) so if all goes well i should have it in my grubby paws by the end of the month or sooner if i give in to the dark side of the bearBig Smile [:D].

got a bit done today, the fuselage is finally closed, I'll snap pics in the morning before I start sanding.  It looks like little if any filler will be needed but we will see.  The rest of the build is mostly a snap from here until I get to the masking which I think will take me an evening just to get the tape on.  For some reason I used to like doing sharp edged camo... now????

Tom, it's the AIMS set I'll be using.

See the link below for a review;

http://decals.kitreview.com/decals/aims72d101decalreviewgp_1.htm

Not sure what's on the previous 2 sheets, but might be worth a look.

I ordered the Eduard masking set for this build, along with the TD wheels. Anything for an easy life, call me lazy.Wink [;)]

Dave, I've made a note about the wheel wells, I hadn't realised they were handed either!

Tanky, belated Happy B-Day [bday]!!!

Karl - looks good!  I actually got an idea and will try to do my He111 in the all black undersides as shown at the bottom of that decal sheet... I was impressed with the offerings by check six... maybe they'll decide to carry them over on our side of the pond one day!!!

I'm to the point of applying decals to my Spitfire MK I, but have encountered a conflict on markings between some of my reference material and need to ask a question. Modeling to represent early 610 Squadron aircraft, my reference materials differ on the underside markings. Some photos/illustrations show roundels on the underside of the wings, some do not. Anybody know for sure whether or not roundels were present on the underside of the aircraft?

Thanks,
-dave

You are right, some aircraft did and some didn't have the roundels on the underside.  Is there a specific spitfire you are doing?  What is your preference?  since it varied so much, not just between units but also between aircraft within units, I would choose a subject you want and go with that.

No particular aircraft in this case, just 610 Squadron in general. Looks better with the roundels on the underside to me, so I may go that direction.

Thanks!

Dave I agree with you that the underwing roundels look so much better as they break up the monotone finish.  However all of the reference shots that I have seen show no roundels underwing for 610 Sqdn.

At the end of the day though it's your model and who's going to know Wink [;)].

Tom & Bob, I'm sorry but I haven't got your reference material away yet, it's just that I've worked the last 12 days straight and it looks like another weekend of work coming up as well.  Needless to say I haven't done a lot of modeling lately.

Yeah, I ended up not applying them last night as most of the photos I have where the underside of the wings are visible didn't show them.  Makes you wonder why they left them off the early schemes.

Darren-no problem (and no hurry) my friend.  I haven't touched plastic myself for three weeks.  Too many activities at the moment.  The B-25 is going to be a big project-very impressive kit (Accurate Miniatures).  I want to do this one up right, so I'm waiting for a good time to start (after all other GB committments have been fullfilled).

Bob, you know if you wait, another "must do" GB will come along, pushing the B-25 even further down the list, unless the B-25 will fit in one.Wink [;)]

Hmmm now Bob there's a thought and given that I have a really nice 1/72 Hasegawa B-25J sitting in my stash I'd be a definite starter for a GB.

How about a twin engined GB?

Especially with that Hasegawa Ju 88 due soon.

Darren - no prob!  I've been too busy to model and have only been able to monitor the forum lately because of work... I appreciate you helping me out though!

Bob - you've been around the usual suspects long enough to know that someone says GB and magically it appears!  Wink [;)]

I've got a 1/48 Pro-Modeler Ju-88 I've been dying to build.  Smile [:)]  I've never built a multi engine model before that I actually painted and all that.  So far, the only multi engine kits I've put together have been just thrown together with the help of my 6 year old son.  We didn't paint them or anything.  He just wanted to play with them.  As far as really taking time to build a model right, I have stuck with single engine prop planes so far.

But I gotta get my P-51 for the Allied Aces GB and my Bf-109 for this GB done first.  Tongue [:P]

Well... it is almost July and my GB calendar for 2007 is not nearly as full as it was at this time last year. Big Smile [:D]  I would love to pick up one of Hasa's B-25's as I have not done a decent Allied twin.  A Ju 88 would be nice too or a Japanese Betty bomber.  We'll see what happens down the road.

Jay, do not resist... resistance is futile!!!

Yes, a Mosquito does sound like fun. I have always liked that AC.  I would probably be interested, depending on the dates.

You people!  I'm trying to actually get work done on this GB, not the next!  Laugh [(-D]  But yea, I would get into a twin GB.  Got that Tamiya Mossie and I'm also itching to get after the Revell-o-gram He111.  But I digress, I am getting something done here.  First time PE for flying machines.  I thought F1 cars were bad, then I got back into planes.  Considering I have a real problem with CA and photoetch, thought this was ok.  I prefer epoxy myself.  Yea, it takes longer and all that, but I can make it work for me.

Plan is to do the same trick as an F1 car, build the seat, paint and detail the parts seperately and then add them carefully.  I think you get a little better look that way, more depth of detail.  But that is just me. Confused [%-)]

Then if that isn't enough, gotta start adding resin bits.  I just can't learn to say no more detail!  It's so easy to whack off a little plastic here and there, glue in some resin.   Yea, right.  Whistling [:-^]  But I thought it would look cool when done.  Rudder and one aileron are off, need to finish cutting out the rest of the control surfaces.  Still need to order the canopy so I can show off all the work inside when done.

Hey Boss!  We got how long to get this finished???Big Smile [:D]

Harold your PE work looks just fine from where I'm sitting.  Tell me is that the epoxy you were talking about on the seat, if so it does a great job of filling in the seams.  By the way what resin set are you using?

I have finally put some of my work commitments behind me and got back to the bench last night Big Smile [:D].  Nothing much to report but at least I managed to make a start on the cockpit of my Hurricane.

very nice work.

hmm, i really need to control myself. I went to my LHS and picked up an aires resin control surface set for my project. In addition I already have the CMK resin engine and aires resin cockpit for my  "OOTB" bf-109E. somewhere along the line i lost all ability to build something box stock...

not to mention i also picked up the new tamiya fw-190 a8 and an aires gun barrel set for my hasegawa 1/32 fw-190a8... what is it with me and these fw-190's...

on another note I hope to get atsrted on this project eventually. it's on the list! I swear.

Tanky, I know the feeling.

I picked up the Hasegawa 1/32 Fw 190A-5 last month, to start this month, but having looked at the AM list, MDC cockpit, tail wheel, Eduard extnal PE set, True Details wheels, Eagle Strike decals etc, etc, I think I'll leave it for a bit.

I decided to restrain myself on the He 111 for this build limiting myself to resin wheels and a set of AM decals.

Sounds like we're all up for a twin engined GB tom me......Evil [}:)]

Tanky, first of all Happy very belated birthday, I've just been going thought the last few pages of posts and realise I missed this altogether.

I know what you mean about OOB builds.  I picked myself up a Do335 the other day with the strict intention of building it OOB.  That was until today of course when, I ordered the full Eduard interior set for the kit and now you've got me thinking that maybe a CMK set would be cool as well, yeah.

thanks for the happy birthday darren.

The CMK stuff is nice. Well detailed and not terribly expensive.
