Decals are applied and flat coat shot.  I'm a little disappointed with the decals.  I've used Cutting Edge decals before and never had problems.  These were just a little too thick to lay down correctly.  They don't look bad, just not as good as I had hoped for.

Anyway, next is to mask the canopy and shoot the frames with paint.  Then I'm home free.

i like to set ym decals in future. It really drags them down into the panel lines very well, even if they are thick.

Camo applied-not my best work.  Think I can salvage it with heavy pastel weathering though.

Bob, the camo looks good from here.  The couple "oops" spots aren't really that noticable.  Keep posting!

On my end, I'm finished.  Here's my P-40N for this group build.  Markings are from Cutting Edge and represent P-40N-5 CAF 'White 663' of Capt. Wang Kuang Fu, CACW's 7FS in Laohokow, China, January 1945.  He was an ace with 6.5 kills.

Kit is Hasegawa, built OOTB except for Eduard seatbelts, Ultracast wheels and exhausts.  Kit went together pretty easily, although it's certainly more complicated than the AMtech offerings.

Had a tough time with the Cutting Edge decals.  You can see some silvering on the Chinese characters (Great Grandfather - Commander) which would not go away no matter how much solvent was applied.  The decals just seem and look thicker than Cutting Edge is known for.

Anyone with a good eye will notice I'm missing an exhaust stack on the starboard side.  Yep, pinged that one into the stratosphere trying to carefully remove from the resin block.  Have no idea where it landed.

I really wanted to take the time and apply a light wash to it like my Dauntless from the Carrier GB, but I'm pressed for time as other issues in my life are taking center stage.  So, it is what it is.

Thanks Tanky for the GB and allowing me to participate.  This is a great subject and the possibilities are extensive.  I'd recommend doing this subject again next year!

Arki-Thanks for the encouraging work.  Not terribly happy with the Academy kit to begin with-most of the issues are self-induced though.  I don't think the resin interior was worth the effort.  I wish there was a Hasegawa or Tamiya offering for the early P-40's.

Your build looks great! The effort shows.

Bob, may not be your best work, but certainly acceptable.  The Trumpeter P-40B with the Cutting Edge cockpit is about the best combo currently available.

arki, nice one!  The Hasegawa kit is a little more work, but it's superior to the old AMT & Eduard/Mauve kits in most respects.

Bob, not bad at all!

I have the trumpeter P-40 as well. I probably wont get to it that soon though.

Well there's a lot of updatin' so I might as well join.

I started on the cockpit of my P-51A a while ago... I'm just getting close to finishing. All the painting is pretty much done, I just have to do weathering/washes and add a few doodads. the verlinden set is really nice. I will take pics when I finish it up (probably sometime this week... stupid college)

I've also done some work on the wings. However, as you can see, I think I got stuck with some bad flaps...

I've contacted Verlinden, hopefully they'll send me flaps free of charge...

Thanks, Tanky!

RadMax, I agree with you.  Those Verlinden flaps have to be mistake on their part.  That gap is just huge.

Wow, that can't be right, that gap is huge!  Hopefully they can rectify that for you.

RadMax-bummer on the flaps.  Discouraging to be in the middle of a project and run into something like that.  Hope you can get satisfaction from the mfg.

Rick & Tanky-thanks.  This is just one of those builds that I'm not enjoying the way I have some other recent ones.

yeah sometimes we all get those builds. I normally take a break and go work on something little and fun in the meantime. Like 1/72 modern armor.

...and it just keeps getting better.  I Future'd the P-40 earlier today-check on it this pm and I seem to have 'misplaced' one of the landing gear covers.  I've been needing to clean-up my work area anyway.....

Tanky-1/72 is a bit too small for my skills-both modeling & motor.  However, there is the T-34 (1/35) in the stash and the recent FSM article on winter camo/weathering.....hummmm-Rick, isn't it about time for the Eastern Front GB?

DURR,  You obviously got a defective sheet.  I'd contact the manufacturer for a replacement.

Durr-sorry to hear of your misfortune.  Don't know if you do business with Great Models, but you can get the Accurate Miniature CBI P-51 decals pretty cheap there.  If you were going to order other items, it might be worth a look.

Bob, I got really over extended on GB's this year & put the Eastern Front GB on the back burner.  I was thinking about it the other day & may kick it off around the first of next year.  I'll put up a post in a couple of weeks & see if there is enough interest.

Rick-count me in (assuming that I find local employment soon-might  take a consulting job & the travel that goes with it-should know soon).

Anyway, decals on-hopefully I can spray some dull coat tomorrow & do the pastel thing on Wednesday.

Thanks Rick.  It's just not a P-40 without the shark teeth, imho.

The Future is a little grainey (sp?)....err, rough...too much air pressure, too far away or not thin enough.  Hoping/thinking I can level it out with another coat or a coat of flat.  Now I have to make another landing gear door for the one I 'misplaced'.

Nice work Bob!  I've always had a soft spot for the shark mouthed P-40s.  Great job!

Bob, I agree, the sharkmouth and P-40 are just made for each other.  I'm liking the progress.

Scott & arki-Thanks.

I applied another coat of Future (needed to anyway to do an oil wash) and it seemed to smooth out a little better (less air pressure & a little closer).  After the oil wash comes a dull coat and some chalk pastel weathering.  Going out of town this weekend, so I'm still a way from finishing.

Made some progress on my Hasegawa 1/48 P-40K.  Got the pit painted & detailed using the Eduard PE set.

Now I can button up the fuselage & move on from there Smile [:)].

Very nice work on the cockpit Rick.  It's a shame to have to 'button it up' and hide a lot of that detail.

Thanks Bob.  Actually, quite a bit of the cockpit detail will be visible, especially if I decide to pose the canopy open.
