very nicely done rick.

I have been in a slump lately due to not having enough time to build... but I do what  I can anyway...

Nice job, Rick. Did you use burnt umber for the wash? I like it a lot. I use black (for now) and it looks pretty stark.

I'll be posting some pics of the work I've done on my cockpit. Slow and steady right? lol

Thanks Redmax.  The wash is indeed Winsor Newtom Burnt Umber oil thinned with mineral spirits.  It was applied over the painted & Futured parts.  After the oil wash dried, I flat coated & then dry brushed with a lightened Interior Green, followed by detail painting using Vallejo acrylics.I agree that Black would be too stark.  I want a dirtied up, lived in look, which BU provides.

So you just paint everything the base color, wash, THEN do the detail stuff? hmm I've never done it like that! either way it looks nice!

I'm hoping to start my P-40 project soon.  I'd like to make a little more headway on my Bf109G-14 and P-38F before I dive in on this project.  I'm dying to start on it, yet on the other hand I'm just a little bit apprehensive as I've never done a resin cockpit before.  Shock [:O]

But I am looking forward to challenging myself.  Cool [8D] Big Smile [:D]

Resin cockpits rock. I'm sure you know all the tips already. Let me just remind you to test fit things BEFORE you paint them! I'm hving to deal with sanding after painting and it's not fun... also, it's always a good idea to ask how things are supposed to fit. I made that ouchie on my P-38. Good luck!

Hmmm... I just watched the Dogfight episode about the Flying Tigers.... I may start on the P-40 today while I wait for the PE set for my P-38.

I'm anxious to learn how to do a resin cockpit.  Cool [8D]

I took this shot really quick... I can't find my tripod so I apologize for the blurriness. This was just something I took quickly so I could prove that I really have been working on it! Enjoy!

Thanks, Rick. I think this is my best cockpit yet. I whipped up a batch of "Scale Black" and really spend a lot of time looking at photos and trying to match the best I could. I think the Verlinden Cockpit is very nice. The flaps, however, I'm less than pleased with. I may try to call them tomorrow and talk to a designer, perhaps. They just don't make sense! I still don't know what decal scheme I want to go with. The kit decals are still an option, and I also bought the Super Scale sheet with markings for 3 birds!

Hey, RadMax, did you ever solve your flaps issue?  Did Verlinden send you some new ones?

Arki, love the avatar.

I called Verlinen after some issues with their online stuff. I was very suprised. On the second ring someone picked up. I told her my issue and she said I'd get a new set. It took a little while but they arrived. I'm not complainitng about the wait because they were free. However, they are the same size as the previous flaps. It seems that the design is flawed. The trailing edge of the flap is as long as the leading edge of the kit flap. So I'm not sure what to do, since I already hacked one flap off my planeAngry [:(!]

Welcome to the world of scratch building Smile [:)].  I have pretty much given up on Verlinden.  Their quality has gone steadily downhill the last few years.

Yeah, ouch.  Hmm, well I suppose you could perhaps graft some of the original flap onto the resin to make it longer.  That's assuming you still have the original.  Good luck Banged Head [banghead]

Im not a big fan of verlinden at all. Their products are pretty poor.

Well I didn't find my tripod, but I did manage to get some decent photos of the cockpit setup. Now I can finally start to put the stuff together!!!

The lever details on the left sidewall were made with tiny wire and superglue. the bomb release is stretched sprue.

As a matter of fact.... haha I'm all about the food tonight

My kitchen has some good lighting and plenty of space so I can brace my arms well. I have surprisingly shaky hands, so I need to prop my arms against the table to shoot. It ain't working at the bench. Glad you like itSmile [:)]

Well, we've both seen peanut butter used to clean up a canopy, so why not whipped cream for a top coat?  Tongue [:P]

Looks real good, RM.
