Hello there

I can't believe I've found this forum or opportunity.

I am a member of no club, or society/forum until now as I thought there was none for my modelling interests which are threefold- wait for it: Building  aircraft of Czech and Polishairforce pilots - especially those in exile BUT - the main area - Spanish Civil War aircraft in 1/72!!

For which I've so far built:

He70. I- 15 Chato. Ro37, Fw 56 Stosser, BF 108 Taifun,Polikarpov R-5, R-Z, Breda Ba 65, FIAT Cr32, SB2, Lockheed Mod 9 Orion, Hawker Spanish Fury.

Therefore - I would be willing and happy to see one of two that I see as a challenge - particularly the former of these:

Either a CANT Z506B based on the Italeri kit (beautiful looking plane and quite a challenge) or a real oddity I've found: Heinkel HE60 by German Manufacturer Flugzeug. Latter I see as more of a challenge as the kit itself is not that well detailed, and I've found it difficult to get photographs/profiles of the aircraft involved - but I have to be forced to do it one day!

Please let me know if I can be counted in and if you'd like pictures of any of the ones I've completed so far. A long way to go yet by my own standards - but this could be the kick up the derriere I've needed.

All the best to you all and wonderful to have found youSmile [:)].

TTiger.

PS - a question I can't find an answer to. Of the large number of HE51's in service during the conflict - does anyonme know if even *one* He 51B (W) floatplane variant was involved? I have the ICM floatplane and would dearly *love* justifying making it in SCW markings!

Best wishes

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] ttiger66

Karl is the official leader of this band of misfits but he'll be along shortly to do the official welcome.

As for your He 51 question take a look at the links in the first page/post of this group build thread and I think you'll find that the He 51B did indeed take part.

As for the aircraft that you've already built I for one would like to see all of them.  But especially the Fiat Cr 32 as that is the one I signed up for in this build.  Which kit did you use?

ttiger66, welcome aboard.

Definitely the more the better where this GB is concerned, even if, as Dave states, we are all misfits!Wink [;)]

I'll update the front page.

Trucker, great job on the armoured car. It looks great, especially as it's 1/72.

The Panzer 1 is now ready for the paintshop which it will probably enter tomorrow with a coat of primer.

Hi guys!  Sorry no participation so far, but been busy with 10,000 other builds (OK, maybe slightly fewer).  Since joining, I've changed to the Smer 1/48 CR.32, in the colours of Joaquin Garcia Morato, who (if I can guess Czech) had 40 victories from 1936 to 1939.  The kit is the old Aurora kit, and just like a Camel I'm also building.  Anyway, first paint went down today.

Cockpit I painted a mid/light brown (Humbrol Authentic HR112 interior stone), and smeared some darer reddy-brown over it (Humbrol Authentic HS216).  Old tins, but not wishing to crack open new ones as I leave modelling for 2 years in a few weeks.  Instrument panel and seat in the reddy-brown.  Not sure if correct, but it looks woody, as was rough when painting, so, that's cool.  Applied lower wings, but I think they might have fit problems later.

As for flash, well, hmmm, digging out the pieces at times!

When I can sort out my camera, pictures!  Camo scheme is sand, with green and red blotches.  Thankfully I have a dual action to help out there.  Underside is grey.  Not sure yet if I will rig it.

I switched my build for this GB.  I am no longer doing the Cr 32 but instead I am doing a He 112.  From the plan view you'd almost think it was something else wouldn't you...

that is until you get a look at those tail surfaces. Shock [:O]

This is the Heller 1/72 kit and aside from the expected fit issues and warped fuselage and wing surfaces it has been a decent kit (huh?Confused [%-)]).   Cockpit actually has some detail to it but I forgot to take a pic until it was too late.

Question for everyone though. These were either bare metal or overal grey.  What would have been the grey that was used.  RLM 02 or did they even have standardized colours at this point?

Dave, I'd be tempted to go for RLM02.

Early Condor Legion A/C had a coat of RLM02 lacquer, so that the metal was visible underneath, but with a greenish/grey tinge.

BTW, looking good too.

Progress Update

The Panzer 1 is almost done.

All the paint is on, just decals required followed by weathering.

Here it is in just a coat of primer.

Think I might end up doing Mirage's braille scale T-26 as my next build got this GB.

Happy Christmas everyone by the way.

Dave, thanks.

Late SCW were painted solid RLM02 with RLM65 undersides.

There is also a school of thought that says that 109s were painted silver rather than being NMF

ConfusedConfused [%-)]

There is a book in the Jagdwaffe series devoted to the Condor Legion. Might not be worth buying for a single build, but worth seeing if anyone has a copy they can give you sight of.

Just a quick update photo.  The He 112 has been painted and decaled.  I used the most silvery grey colour I had on hand (Humbrol 127 I believe) and then gave it a dusting of RLM 02.  I am pretty happy with the results.  I had to make my own roundels as I had nothing that was suitable in my spares box.  Thought I would try painting them on but I found that trying to cut circle templates was a lot harder than you would think.  In the end I painted a circle of white and then laid the home made decals for the black over top.  Worked pretty good except the white circle for the wing roundels was a little too small but I can live with it.  The numbers and rudder X were from the spares box.  The canopy is not yet attached.

Here is what I am trying to achieve

Any thoughts on the propeller colour?

Dave, great job on the Heinkel.

The paint looks great.

Not sure on the prop colour, either black or silver at a guess.

Progress Update

Decals are on the Panzer 1, just need to touch in a few areas where the decals haven't covered as they should.

Still playing with the fidely bits on the He 112, motivation is hard to come by at the moment but it should be done soon.

Having said that, there is an Me 262 in the build queue behind it.....

Dave, great job on the Heinkel.

The paint looks great.

Nice to see the He 100 modelled.

Finally made some more progress on the puny panzer!

Just need to put some Future over the decals, then is on to a sludge wash and dry brushing, followed by matt coat and more weathering.

As you can see, it really is tiny!

Thanks Solid and Karl!  Karl that Panzer I is coming along very nicely.  What colour(s) are you using?  It's already looking nicely weathered, can't wait to see it finished.  ...and yes it is tiny!Shock [:O]

Thanks Dave.

I think it's Tamiya Panzer Green, but don't quote me on that.

Looks about right to me, but would I know.

Just applied the wash, so it's sitting in the corner drying off.

Might even get it done this weekend!

Thanks Rick!  Are you still thinking of doing an Eastern Front GB sometime this year?  I seem to remember you mentioning something about it last fall... at least I think it was you???

Ooo ooo! an Eastern front GB and I actually have a kit for it! Smile [:)]

Also Karl, I finally have a kit to build for this GB, if I can get to it soon.  I just scored 4 free models, 3 from Heller; 1:72 Bf-109b, Arado Ar196 and Me262 (two seater) and for the eastern front GB I could use my Revell 1:72 Panzer III a tank from Kursk.  mmm I am drooling at getting back into the GBs. Tongue [:P] Time is the big factor.

I hope I can still participate in this GB with my Bf-109b.  The kit decals for the spanish civil war are very old and I doubt they'd work so I may just have to find some civil war decals, anyone know who makes some as.  If I can start the Bf-109b before March, I think I might be able to finish it. Jay I took a look for some Bf 109 civil war AM decals for use on my He 112 but I couldn't find any.  That's why I ended up making my own.  I painted a white circle roughly to size and then printed the black circle with the X or swaztika onto the decal paper.  Fortunately the aircraft I choose didn't have any other squadron markings.

BTW nice score on the kits, I got quite a few heller kits from that friend of mine last summer including that Me 262 B 2 seater.  I actually liked the He 112 kit and I'm looking forward to building more of those kits.  As with all manufacturers some kits are better than others though and I think the He 112 was one of the better ones.
