Dave, okay thanks for the heads up about the decals.  Painting them should be pretty easy then.  I'll even try the decals in the sun trick.

I pulled out the parts for each of the Heller kits and I was impressed with the level of detail.  For older kits they are very nice!, espcecially the Ar196.  I am one not to get hung up about raised panel lines so for me being offered the kits, I took them without a second thought!  I was especially impressed with the canopies, all three have very clear and crisp moldings, no flash and not too thick!Shock [:O]

I would be very interested to see your Me262 built up compared to when I get mine done (when ever that would be...).  Are you thinking of doing the nightfighter version, I am.

I will most probalby do the night fighter version Jay but like you I have a heap of builds in front of it and not a lot of free time to spend at the bench these days.  Good luck with the Bf 109 and post some pics! Propeller [8-]

Jay, good to see you back on this GB.

Heller's 109B is a pretty good kit from what I've heard.

Nice to see plenty of braille scale builds in this GB too.

The Panzer 1 is pretty much complete, hoping to post pics later this weekend.

As for my next build for this GB I'm thinking about Revell's 1/72 Renault FT as used by Republican forces.

As for 262s there must be something in the air, as I'm about to start on Tamiya's 1/48 offering.

Thanks Karl, now Dave, what colour did you use as the main colour for the heinkel?

Jay, Karl told me that the civil war aircraft were either painted silver or bare metal with an RLM 02 laquer paint.  Correct me if I'm wrong Karl.  So I picked the most silvery grey I could find in my paint tray which happened to be Humbrol 127 and then lightly oversprayed it with the RLM 02.  I'm pretty happy with the results even though they may not be the most accurate.

Thanks Dave, I'm thinking of getting on this one pretty quick.  I need something to be easy for once... I have run into a wall with my Spitfire, or more to the point, have developed a serious decaling issue. Angry [:(!] I need to remove some decals that I've put on and I don't know if I'll be able to save the paint!  Anyone have any suggestions?  I put future on before the decals.  Sigh [sigh]

Jay, as long as they have not been top coated with future or anything else you should be able to soak them in Micro Sol or any other decal solvent and once they are softened up you can gently rub them off.

Jay, try sticky tape.

Just lay it over the decal, press down firmly, and pull back.

Et voila!

Decal stuck to tape.

I always use masking tape, but you might want to try something a little stronger if you've used setting solutions.

You know I said I'd post pics of the Panzer 1, well obviously I haven't.

Will definitely try to as soon as possible.

Dave, Karl or anyone else who might have the answer, what did the Germans use as interior colour in the cockpit and landing gear wheel wells.  I Started painting it last night and tried OD green and it looks funny, I looked at your pics Dave and can't decide what colour it looks like on your Heinkel.  Thanks.

Up until the middle of WWII German cockpit interiors were RLM02 Grau

You might find these color reference charts helpful from IPMS Stockholm, I'm always refering to these and they even tell you what to mix for the different brands to duplicate the colors.  I hope that helps.  Smile [:)]

Jay, Scott is pretty much spot on with RLM02.

However some Luftwaffe A/C may have had an NMF interior, but don't quote me on that!

Either way, I wouldn't worry, as details on SCW A/C are pretty scarce at best, and just damn fuzzy at worst.Evil [}:)]

Finally, Panzer pics!

Paint is a combination of Tamiya & Gunze acrylics.

Weathering is a combination of airbrushing, dry brushing and weathering powders.

I really enjoyed this little build, even if it did take forever.

The Bf-109 B-2 is progressing rapidly! I have the cp in and fuse closed up, I now have to sand and add the wings then it'll be ready for paint!  Pics to come soon! Funny thing is when you close up the fiuse, you have to add the spinner and prop or else there is no other way to get it on after.  It will make painting and sanding it a little tricky but that is part of the challenge.

Nicely done Karl.  The tow cable looks a little out of scale, or were the real ones that massive ?

Finally got some work done on the Bf-109A.  Fit is pretty good so far for a CA kit, but lots of careful dry fitting is still the name of this game.

Regards,  Rick

Your interior looks great!  I tried really hard to get my hands on the 109A, but no luck.  Every place was out of stock.  I have the 109B which should be pretty similar, so I'll be watching your build closely to help me with mine.  Smile [:)]

Scott, Dave,  Thanks guys.

Scott, the B was very similar to the A.  Some differences in the cockpit layout & the cowl.  The A kit actually includes the resin for the B cockpit as well as the A.  Also, CA just announced a D model coming out in Spanish Civil War markings.  I'm hoping to get one when it's released.

Regards,  Rick

Too bad it's not the other way around, with the B kit having the extra parts for the A  Wink [;)] Whistling [:-^]

Have the 109 assembled & preliminary filling done.  Thought I'd post a couple of pics showing how the injection plastic & cast resin pieces fit together.  No CA kit is easy, but this one isn't too bad.  The resin wheel bays took a lot of work to get properly fit.  I used a dremel to thin the upper wing interior to get the wing tops & bottoms to fit with the wheel bays installed.  The resin cowl gave me some trouble as well & the fit still isn't as good as I'd like.  After I prime paint, I think some creative filling & rescribing will be needed.  I left the rudder off at this stage to make final masking & painting easier.  Anyway, here's where it stands as of now.

Regards,  Rick

Looks like a brute of a kit Rick but I'm sure you'll end up with a masterpiece as per usual.  Keep the pics coming.  Thumbs Up [tup]
