F-15 Eagle Group Build 6/01/06 - 1/17/07

Finished recently, and posted a bunch of pics on the aircraft forum. Had a ball with this one, and can't wait to see some finished pics from you guys.

There hasn't been an update in a while so here I go with mine.  All I have left to do on scribing is the odd shapes.  I got my template in this past week and I'm ready to start on them.  I will probably do them this week.  I only scribed the raised line detail on #1 and #2, and attempted a full rescribe on #3.  #4 and #5 have been put in the hangar for repairs and I will finish them after I get #'s1-3, the D &E model done.  #4 and #5 will also be full rescribes.  Here are some pictures of the first 3.

I stole a half dozen Mk. 82 (or was it Mk. 83?) 750 lb.GP's from my F-105D, hung on the inner six CFT pylons, the forward 2 with fuse extenders, now all I need is the AMRAAMs (thanks for the offer CobraHistorian!) and the guided ordnace from minihasek. It's lookin' quite menacing with it's lowrider-ish look, the bombs almost dragging on the ground. I NEED A DIGITAL CAMERA!!!!!! GGRRR.

By the way, here's my latest progress.

Hasegawa F-15A/C with AIRES burner cans, Twobobs decals and True Details wheels.  She's still got a ways to go, but progress is going well.

Those are AIM-120A AMRAAMs, we don't use the ASRAAM, that's strictly a European thing.  I may have an  extra pair. Lemme see what my current arsenal looks like. I've got a few builds that will be getting em, but if I've got an extra pair, they're yours.

The decals are almost all on, first time I used Future as an undercoat and solvent for decals, and I'm quite pleased with it. I'm waiting on the bombs and SLAM's from minhasek, and I'm trying to get a pair of AMRAAM's or ASRAAM's or some other alphabet soup missile to match this photo:

I'm talking about the outer wing pylon missil. Anyone? PM me if you can give me a pair.

I wanted to get this in time for the 5-year aniversary of 9-11.  I still want to make a data card for the wood base giving a time line of events for that day.

This is a pair of F-15A's of the MA national guard that were the first responders to NYC that day (1/72nd scale, Hasegawa). 

According the the timeline that came with the Two Bobs decals, the pair were scrambled at 8:44 AM, airborne at 8:52 AM.  They were still 75 miles out when the secong plane hit the south tower.

On that day, the two were loaded with just a pair of AIM-9 Sidewinders on the Wing Outboard pylons and a pair of AIM-7 Sparrows on the Forward Fuselage Sations.  Since that day, typical load is that plus a two pairs of AIM-120 AMRAAMs on the Wing Inboard pylons & Aft Fuselage Stations.

Here is what I have decided.  I have #1 & 2 main body scribed along with the wings and vert stabs (pretty much ready to start the construction).  I am currently working on #3 and have the main body and the top of the left wing totally rescribed.  When I finish #3 I am going to start assembly line painting on #1-3 and the D & E.  #1 is going to be a special paint scheme to go along with another group build.  #2 & 3 are going to be Langley birds with decals from Twobobs that I received yesterday.  I am currently waiting on Mr. Surfacer/Scribing Template/2 Aces II seats from Greatmodels.  I am getting anxious to get these things going.  As for #4 & 5 I will finish them after I get everything else done.  It may be after the deadline that those are done and I want to make the deadline with the rest of these.  I will post pics after I finish #3.

Almost done with my bird.  Just putting the last decals on and should have pics us soon.  Can anyone tell me what's the best way to shoot my bird.  My pics either come up to bright or too dark.  Any help would be appreciated.

Made some progress on my Louisiana A model.  Decals are almost complete.  Resin wheels have been drilled and test fitted.  Working on the pylons and missile rails now.  Unfortunately, I don't have the BOL rails or LAU-128s for that matter, but I've re-sculpted the old rails to at least be a somewhat accurate representation of the LAU-128. Weapons carriage will be 2 AIM-120A, 2 AIM-7M and 2 AIM-9M, plus 2 tanks.

The D is waiting for the new 493rd FS decal sheet from Afterburner Decals so I can finally finish it and my E still needs quite a bit of work.  Haven't even thought about starting my Aggressor D.

Rudy, I would have to agree, I just got the E myself, and it is so much better looking that I am going to shelve the "C" that I had been rescribing and begin work on the E right away.  I would say that the only con is that there is no air-to-mud ordnance ( although the sprue with the missles on ot sure has a huge blank spot!! ).  Guess that I will have to get my hands on a hasa 1/48 ord kit sometime in the future.

The Revell "E" model is a nice kit.  It dosen't have the ground ordinance, and the likelyhood of a Hasegawa kit having it is probably wishing.  The ordinance that is missing in the Revell kit is actually in the Pro Modeller offering of the same kit.

I'm still making progress on my 5 "c's" that I'm rescribing and I'll start my "D & E" in the near future.  I am only rescribing #1 & 2 with the raised lines already on the kit and I am doing full rescribes on #3-5.  I'll post pictures soon of what I do have done.

Sorry...I couldn't resist. I'm not quite finished but really close. I'm waiting on AIM 120's. Everything else is done. I'm leaving for a Canadian fishing trip so forgive me for posting this teaser. I'll post more when I get back.

I think the C's radar is painted similarly.

Here's my reference pic:

But I am not sure what the radar dish color should be (I painted mine gold). The real thing is probably closer to desert yellow.

Well, my C is assembled, now for painting. And I saw the how one of you (forgot the name)painted the J model's radar. Was the C's painted similarly? Mine is painted overall gray with a black wash and silver drybrushing.If it should be painted like the J's, tell me and I'll fix it. 

Also, I've got a dio idea that needs my purchase of  a Strike Eagle, solist me with that one too. However, I won't disclose what the dio is all about until pics are revealed. It'll be my furst aircraft dio,and the largest single project I have ever undertaken to this point. Cheers.

I still have so much to do,sometimes I wonder if I bit off more than I can chew.I am trying to get the intankes and exhaust set up for completion at pretty much the same time.But I am needing some Gunze Mr.White putty for the seams in the exhaust cans,and my LHS is out at the moment.So I started putting the Cutting edge drop tank together, and the halves on that were so mismatched ,I think they used two different masters.So I 'dropped' my drop tank in the trash can.Anyway....I was going to try to paint a little today,but it's raining here in OKC.So it looks like a slow day at the workbench for me today.I will post some intake pics here tonight.

Looks like some intensive work Zone. I wussed out and gonna use the covers.

I tried something new for the lights.  The kit does not provide clear parts, which look the best, so instead of Tamiya clears over silver paint, I applied the paint over foil. Not sure if I like this or not....maybe another coat to darken'm up.

OK.... here are a few pics of the Cutting Edge seamless intakes.

WARNING:the next few posts that I make will be very photo intensive,so bear with me.

This photo shows basically the contents that make up the seamless intakes.The white ring at the far right is the excess resin that has to be removed on the exhaust end on both sides.The white resin makes up the white parts of the intake.The grey parts are the foward parts of the intakes that need to be painted the exterior color of the jet.

Here is a close up of the grey parts.The pinhole on the sides is so that the intakes will pivot,giving you the option of having the 'nodding' intakes on the F-15

Here is a pic of the back end of the intakes and engine face.The intakes are notched so that the two pieces fit well together.I have not removed the mold plug from the resin on the left side yet.
