Awesome! I saw that website once before, but forgot the name....thanks!

I have to start looking into how to convert an FJ4 Fury to an FJ3... I have Emhar's kit, and that will be the basis for it.

well what i was gonna do was use a basis of an F-86 (which is almost the same as an fj-2 and an fj-3) and just add and delete some stuff.

Take for example the cannons up front..the fj-3 has two guns on each side of the fuselage while the f-86 has three, among other little things...

im sure if you get an f-86 kit and use the f-86 fuselage, the fj-4 wings cockpit, landing gear, and delete the f-86 guns and use the furys then youd be fine

i saw some time ago in the aircraft forum that somebody converted an f-86 to an fj-3

hey frank ive got the same idea for all the JR aircraft only in 1/48...I already have 2 f-14's and im gonna get another f-14 so i can build a line bird for vf-103. The other two are an A model thats going for vf-84 and the F-14 B im using in this GB with the santa cat decals from VF Decals

i also have a F4U-1D for vf-17

speaking of which if you pick up the Kagero Published VF-17 Jolly Rogers book you get decals for like 8 different aircraft(you can only build two though due to there only being two sets of bones) in both 1/48th and 1/72. If you want the 1/72 decals your more than welcome to them I also have a F8F...and believe it or not I have all the bones i could ever want for all the squadrons...except the Phantoms...

well guys looking good on the jr birds. i finally got to start on my second jr hornet yesterday and i got about 60 % of it done all ready. i also got my decals in for the 2006 version for the jr hornet bird and they look sharp. i also have ran out of putty and went to 3 diffrent stores that carry it and they dont have any. so back to lucky models to put in another order for putty and some canadian hornet decals that i have been eyeing so no building  for at least 7 to 11 days all i can do is paint the tails and thats it. i have some pics to post on both hornets but those will be put up tomorrow. so this little break will give me a chance to get out to the hunting club and put up some stand for the deer season thats coming

Must build plane... musssst buillld plaaane... Evil [}:)]

With that short motivational speach out of the way... the reason behind it. That's what you get for letting an auto guy loose on a aero GB. He tends to gravitate towards the familiar. Blush [:I] Esp when you're at 80% done on one and have motivation to finish the second auto (in order to "play with" new stuff just gotten on the next model), well... the unfamiliarity of the aero model; just adds to it allways falling down the pecking order.

But fear not, we have a long weekend coming up...

Once again, everything seems to look great, and some of you folks are way ahead of where I am in my construction.  SeaBee, I know exactly what you are talking about as I split my time on my night off between working on the F-14 cockpit and trying to finish my 1/48 Tiger tank.  The good news is that the cockpit is now finished.  I will try to get my photos added on a posting later this week for the group to view.  It may not be until my next night off that I get around to airbrushing the wheel bays, as the next thing I need to do is attach the front wheel bay to the cockpit and install them in the front fuselage halves.  As I stated going into this, I knew that there would be challenges working this project during an outage, but I will continue to keep plugging away.

I've been staring at the oob gray on my F-4 that is begging to be primed.  I've been busy trying to finish my Master's program (Just one more week!) so the modeling has taken a backseat, albeit with much protesting.  My F-4 has been cleaned and mineral spiritized and has been ready to be primed for about a week.  My F-18 sits mocking me as I haven't had the urge to bust out the metalizer just for the engine fronts.  But with school nearing an end I should be getting things finished up.  As for my nearly completed F-14, the decaling has been slow and tedious as I am trying to match placement with reference photos and various instruction sheets. I have a feeling there will be no points for accuracy with this kit, it just looks cool.  It was my first attept at using Gunze Sanyo paints (Not available at my lhs) I was amazed at the realism of the paint, much better than I ever get by mixing.

hi mini well thier are serveal  places. you can go to two bobs.com, theirs also lucky model got the jolly rogers from. also you can try vf decals look under maw for the super and the leagacy hornets. also try great models and spurce brothers for more hornet decals thier is also a model company in austrilia? its called haweke models. if i thinks of any others i will list in the  jr section.. as for my builds i am still waiting for putty to come in. and then thier ready for paint and decals.

i thought you meant for all super hornets. well just for jr decals  go take a look at hobbydecals thier not water decals but dry tranfser and this will be the frist time i am trying these out. but luckymodels has thier on their web site for order. you can get 1/48 and 1/72, if you want them you better get them i heard from the owner that they are selling like hotcakes. this time around i got me 2 sets of them even thought thier is enough to build all the planes in the squadron and a what if scheme to.

I finally found some time and got the F-4 going.  Belly, top, nose, flaps and one part of that elusive metallic engine area.  I'm waiting on the Alcad to dry before I change types and touch it up.  I hope to have the last details painted tomorrow and a gloss coat laid down.

Ok. Finally got around to taking some progress pics.

The major sub assemblies are mostly completed. The only real problem I had is with the cannon bay door. My sample was miss molded and resulted in some serious work to close it all up.

As far as most of the problems reviewers had with this kit I found it relatively straight forward. Even though it is the original release (yes, it's been in my closet that long). I had to use a bit of filler on the leading edge of the intake splitters that are separate. The beaver tail was good. I found that if I dry fitted the beaver tail when assembling the fuselage halves, the fit and alignment was near perfect and required little filler. The forward nose has a bottom piece that has the Sparrow troughs in it. There is a U channel on the inside that is to align the gear bay to the cut out. I found this to be too short resulting in a sizable gap at the forward end of the lower panel. The easy solution, remove the back part of the U channel leaving the I I straight alignment parts. This also improved the fit of the nose to the fuselage. I think it will only require a few dabs of filler. The interior of the intakes were a pain until I realized that the instructions had the parts reversed. Take the tops of the intake ramps and reverse their handing to solve all the nightmares that come with them.

I noticed that the burner cans are numbered differently. They are actually handed. If they don't fit right, put them on the other sideSmile [:)] Things like this are where people get a bad taste in their mouths and say that kits are poor. I grew up on monogram and airfix kits. I had to learn to problem solve. Thumbs Up [tup]Wink [;)]

The wings and flaps- this was easy. There is an interior part to fill the space in the wing. Leave it out if you have the early version. Assemble the flaps and cut the flat parts off the 'T' posts for the flaps leaving the "I" to use as an alignment post. The flaps now fit perfectly. You couldn't see in the wing  and there is a spacer molded in about a 1/4" back to block it anyway.

I will be away for a bit after this weekend. I have some health issues to look after. Should be back building by mid to end of October though. Happy building fellasBig Smile [:D]

Here are some pics of my Glosscoat-ready F-4.  A few touch ups as I didn't pull up nearly as much of the Alcad as I have in the past.

nah im building a 1/72 bug...i want to eventually build a 1/48 but thats not for a while (i dont have 56 exquisite dollars to spend on the hasegawa bug)...evenutally though...again any line bird would work for me...

my f-14 is coming along great...i have the wings together and the cockpit in the fuse. i still have to build the steps on the side of the fuse but that looks to be a fairly simple task. hows everybody else doing?

oh and a quick side note...i joined the F-14 farewell group build and im doing a what if Jolly Rogers F-14...think WW2 corsair threetone paint scheme and modified markings...

Progress continues to be slow for me (read as noexistant other than my night off each week).  I did get a coat of white on the wheel wells and gear last week, and will probably recoat and try to do some assembling this week.  I still want to get my cockpit photos downloaded, but that may get delayed again this week unless I find some extra time somewhere.

I have also joined the F-14 Farewell group build that minihasek mentioned.  I am going to start out by double dipping with my project for this build due to my time constraints, but may try to get an original Tamiya 1/32 kit upgraded to a D model with VF-142 markings for that group as well.

As always, I will keep the group posted as work continues.

Ok, some progress...been slow because I've been down with a double ear infection this week, but I have all of my seams taken care of, my rescribing of panel lines that were lost to sanding is just about done, and I may be able to get some paint on this one by Monday. I've also joined the Tomcat Farewell GB, in that one I'll be doing the VF-103 F-14B Jolly Rogers Last Flight.

Progress has been going on in spite of other things. The major sub-assemblies are together and just a bit of filling, sanding and rescribing to do. Overall I am happy with the fit of this tomcat. After all the horror stories I heard, I was nervous about the kit. But they are gone. The only real problem with fit I had was due to my own hand. I tried to improve the fit of the forward fusalage and took off too much. That caused a step on the upper fusalage and a fair bit of filler to fix it. I'll know better for the next one.

Now that the local contest is over and I finished the other project I was working on. The time to start another came. Well, looking at it for some time in my collection, I pulled out the Hasagawa 1/48 F-18F. I have the pit started and will be building it straight out the box (which has been a long time for meWhistling [:-^]). Of course it comes in VFA-103 markings.Thumbs Up [tup] So I now have two on the go for this GB. Not what I had intended, but am in "jet mode" lately for some reason. Must be from building 10 WWII planes and two jets in the last three yearsConfused [%-)]

I'll post some pics when I can. Keep on building guys and have funBig Smile [:D]

Hey!!!

What happened to everyone??????

It's mid fall and we should all be turning out kits! What happeded?? No one modeling? What!!Shock [:O]

I'm busy working on the tomcat and super hornet. The tomcat is almost ready for a primer coat and the super hornet has some assembly done and the cockpit is nearing completion. I'm way behind some of you guys, but I can get big spurts done in no time when the wife takes the kids and goes to her sisters for the weekend. And one of those is comming up. I don't get much time, like 2 to 4 hours a week if I'm lucky. But progress is steady.

So what have you all been doing? Just post a note so we all know where we stand. Gotta keep this GB on page one ya knowWink [;)] Closer to the top the better too. Thumbs Up [tup]

I'm actually pretty far along with the F-14. I have to paint the landing gear and missles, the gear bays, some other stuff...but its coming along nicely. I'll post a picture update this weekend.

Mini...the Phantom is packaged up and will be mailed as soon as the Post Office opens (9 a.m. Saturday). I also included a set of True Details ejection seats as the kit's seats are a little plain. You should have it by Wednesday the latest.

At this point, I have collected the kits and decals to do every type of plane that wore the Jolly Rogers in USN service in 1/72, except for the Fury.

Mini...are you going to do the Corsair as Ira Kepford's plane?

I've been working at a snails pace lately.  I'm in the process of buying a new house.  But I have made substantial progress on my F-4.  It's ready for it's first gloss coat and the "accessories" such as missiles and landing gear are getting their final coats and washes.  The F-18 has been a real dissappointment.  I would have thought that a new kit from a reputable manufacturer would be more like the shake and bake Hasegawas I've come to expect.  That's not to say I don't like a challenge; I have a whole shelf full of Accurate Miniatures and their subtle, migrane-inducing glitches, but the assembly of the F-18 has not flowed well.  The nose assembly in particular required vast amounts of filler and the most delicate sanding I have ever tried.  Most of the seams run parallel to raised detail that isn't exactly rescribable.  That being said, the major portion of the F-18 has been completed and some touch ups are needed before priming.  By stark contrast the F-4 looks like the superb kit.  The Eduard cockpit as well as some exterior photo-etch accessories I "borrowed" from the E version has made a nice kit.  If I can get the time it should be completed in a matter of weeks.
