Hey all,

I'm stuck in the Lone Star state this week for work and am really feeling the urge to build.  Figures.  Before I flew out I managed to lay down a few decals on my F-4 and have really got the bug to keep going.  I should have figured a way to cram it into the overhead compartment.  I should have the kit ready to go by this weekend, The only thing I haven't really tackled yet is the canopy.  Never been my favorite part so I always save them until the end.  So good modeling this week, gentlemen.

Decals and clear gloss went on this weekend....its still wet so I can't take pics....maybe later. Gonna wait a week to make sure the clear is totally cured, then a wash with Windsor and Newton Oil Raw Umber (with Tamiya Smoke in the gear bays). After that, its just a flat coat, final assembly and its done!

Okay, here is my F-4 in post-wash, pre-dullcoat phase.  Canopies (The bane of my modeling) are drying from a dip in Future and the horizontal stabilizers are drying.  Should have a completed kit soon.

Drew and all,

I am still here, I just have not been able to get working on my F-14 with the outage still going, and going, and going (well, you get the idea), and the work that I need to take care of at home (such as taking down the Halloween decorations on my night off last week).  Anyway, things are beginning to slow down, which should allow me the time to pick back up on my project.  I am debating what to use for weight in the front of the cockpit section before I glue it together, unless I can find a good weight that will actually fit in the nose cone as Hasegawa recommends.  I will attempt to stay in better contact going forward, and perhaps I will send an update this weekend as I have two nights off, and that should allow me to get something assembled.

What I used for the same problem was some modeling clay (I've had for years and it has never dried out) and common, every day split-shot fishing weight.

Well, progress is slow here. I have primed the tomcat and have more work ahead of me before painting. I thought I would have a couple of things to address after a primer, but there is much more than I imagined. I mostly finished the cockpit on the super hornet. It's progress is slowed also.

Don't feel your the only one going no where in this Scotty, I'm not gettting any work done either. It's been almost a month since I was able to work on mine. Every time I think I have time to work on them, something else comes up.

Lots to do, just need the time to do it. Keep it all. I'm watching Whistling [:-^]

I snagged a Hasegawa 1/72 F9F Cougar off ebay not too long ago for 8 bucks there was a small pic, so I couldn't see the decal sheet, when it arrived, I found out one of the decal options is a VF-61 Jolly Rogers plane! Score!

It was this one:

I have a couple of the one you posted, they're really good kits considering how old they are.

Haven't been able to do much of anything model-wise lately...I had to go in for surgery to remove a kidney stone....lots of pain! Hopefully I'll be back at it soon. I was working on a Skyhawk for another GB on ARC, but until I'm in less pain, I can;t go down and work on it.

Still alive! Progress is very slow. But at least there was some progress! Actually started some of the subassemblies that can be done without the cockpit being finished.

At the cockpit there's some progress as well, but very slow. Yet again, the unfamiliarity is just allways making me shy away from this kit! Finishing up a D2 DTM Merc and decalling a Spiderman bike (don't know why I had to do that to myself!) as well. I should just shut up, sit down and get going with the F14! At least I did get some progress, so things are looking up! maybe momentum will kick in...

I must first say that I am very impressed with the photos of the finished and nearly finished projects.  You guys are doing some fantastic work.  The outage finally ended just in time for me to spend a week as a chaperone with our marching band in Florida.  Unfortunately, it was a cold week there, and I did not pack for the weather I would have expected at home.  Anyway, I am back to my regular job and have made some headway on my tomcat.

I wound up using an adhesive backed weight in the front of the cockpit for my counterweight (1/4 ounce), but I appreciate the suggestion I was given.  I will try to add the actual link this weekend, but there is a site that does a nice job of describing how to build the Hasegawa 1/72 kit.  Some of the advice is very useful. Thumbs Up [tup] So far the cockpit, fuselage halves, engine underhangs, and wings are assembeld.

My next move will be to ensure that my joints are as clean as I can get them and then to paint what I have built as well as the parts that I will add later such as the tail fins and assundrious small parts.  No promises, but I will try to get back to downloading some photos soon.

Hey all, I wanted to get in on the conversation and say that my F-4 is ever so close to being finished but I just finished a very hectic move and have yet to unpack my modeling stuff (Including the ongoing debate with the wife about my hobby room or her reading room.).  A simple addition of PE parts on the canopies and the addition of the need-to-be finished horizontal stabilizers is all that is needed to finish this kit.  As for the F-18, as soon as I can find the box I put it in I can continue the progress.  I managed to get the seams filled and smoothed and it's awaiting further construction.
