Military Veterans GB

well the black is done and the end of my build is getting closer and closer :) the boy was home with strep throat today so i volunteered to take the day off and watch him :) its nice to have a 2 year old that likes models. here are some more update pics of the hummer getting there .

thanks john , the silly putty works great but gets a little tedious. but then again my first time working with it.

what i did was roll it into real thin pieces and afixed it to the hummer . but becareful when laying it down if it hits another piece you already have on your build it sticks and pulls it off.

it actually took me almost 4 nours to silly putty her up and about 15 minutes to paint lol. but i think it works very well i am sure after time i will get better at working with it.

Now thats a good looking Hummer!!!!. I bought some silly putty a few months ago in anticipation of trying that approach and you answered some of the questions I had about it, so thanks for that. One question I have for ya?, what black did you use. It came out terrific!!!, it has that slightly faded look like its been in the field for a while, but not faded all the way. Mark had the same effect with the camo on his F-111. So, what did you guy's use?. Great work Kenny.

Thanks steve any other questions about the silly putty just ask away.

All the colors on the hummer are tamiya they are Nato Black XF-69 Nato Brown XF-68 and Nato Green XF-67. I like tamiya paint but have just started with some modle masters and i may switch dont know yet.

very true john i found tamiya excellent for airbrushing but have trouble brushing it on . the paint seems to pull away when brushing it on but model masters brushes very well  i will probably end up using a mix of bothe of them .

A little progress work for ya'll. I do not like the way the paint job has turned out

with this one the fuse was 3/4 of an inch to small

RC that is one big plane didnt relize how big your build was. she is coming along nicely.

well guys i finally finished her up tonight only posting a few pics without sun light not enough light for good pics so i will post some more tomorrow. i had a ton of fun with you all during this build and i am not going anywhere till we are all done :)

Kenny, have both Tamiya and a mix of all types of Testors paints, Use whatever I need for each build. I just prefer airbrushing Tamiya

RC, geeezzzee, that thing is big. I had no idea. Paint looks good from here.

Kenny, bravo my friend. The completed Hummer on it base looks great. Very well done.

By the way thanks for the e-mail on the GB badges. I have tried many times to get them to fit but it always comes out weird. The one question I have is that do you load them the same way as you normally would and in the future how would you add more?

I really like the way tou painted the body, that little paint jig looks really handy. I should be less impatient and build something like that for myself.

That faded paint look you were talking about on the F-111, was it just the black or was it the cammo too?

The black was Gunze Acrylic Flat black.

I post shaded the whole model to give it that faded look. I just mixed some light grey into my base colour. Probably about 80% base to 20% light grey. I then just painted the centre of each panel with that mix and worked to the outer edge of the panel. I don't paint the panel lines though. It's better to have the mix a little too dark and build it up as you can't undo it without wrecking the paint job.

I then lightly dusted some light grey over the decals to dull them down a little. wrked pretty well.

This would give a faded look and of course scale effect. Your F-111 looked like you did this. The next kit I do with camoflage I was going to try this, so I was wondering if you guy's did the same and what insights you may have.

John, what manufacture and scale is the Cobre you have there. I need one for my Marine Corps collection and need a 1/48 or 1/35?.

Hi Steve.

All I can really add is that I've found that grey works a little better than white as it tends to be a little more subtle.

I try to do my post shading while the aircraft is still masked so that the panels that have 2 or more colours on them get an even finish.

If you use a clear like future etc to seal your model before decals, this will soften the reult a little so don't worry if it's a little obvious before you clear coat it.

I also use acrylics as they dry very quickly and I can paint the base colour and in the time it takes to mix up the post shade it's ready to go.

If you have an old hack you can try it on I'd recommend it as it's not hard but does require a little practice.

Be careful with dark colours. They take a little more coats than light ones.

I got imatient and added too much grey and stuffed it. I had to re-paint the dark green and then redo the post shade.

You'll find more out for yourself in 10 mins than from reading too many how to's. Give it a shot though as it's a very rewarding finish.

john i cant agree with you more the tamiya paints are great for airbrushing i just dont know why i have trouble hand brushing with them :(

steve about the badges everytime you add a badgeyou have to redo the animation .gif. i use microsoft digital suite to make a flip book. if you dont have a program to do it and you need to add more to your GB badges i would be happy to take care of it for you :)

as promised some more pics of the build . it is raining in NYC so not really much sun light so the pics arent the greatest. i need to get some better lighting :) so here we go .

Soooo after much himmming and hawwwing here are the final pistures as promised. I think she turned out ok.... I plan on building my chinook when I am downrange, we will see how things work out. Anyway my hummer looks just like the vehicle I was smacking my on the door frame of out at graf, sorta. I am really glad to have been a part of this build. It has been a honor gentlemen.      JOSH

Josh and Kenny. Congrats on the finishing of the Hummers. They both look great, kinda like a before and after photos. Both turned out very well and should sit proudly on your shelves. Actually great builds by all in this GB. Gentlemen, it's been a pleasure building with you all. I look forward to seeing some of the other builds finishing up. Keep up the good work guy's.

Progress to report is that this huge thing should be done this afternoon.

All that I am waiting for is the crane and support teams to lift the Radome and sit it in place.

It is 26 inches long and 25 inches wide not sure how tall it will be.

Come on now we all know that you want to say something more. Use thought process for the word "COW". But thanks for the good word it should be done tonight as soon as the CRANE shows up.

Also Kenny I am having problems with the GB badges. I cant seem to get them.
