Dave, nice progress and good to see it comming along.

Mark, outstanding paint job you have there, You are in the final stretch by the looks of things, too bad you will miss the deadline but it will be worth it when finished and am positive your dad will be pleased with it.

Kenny, time to put some wheels on that thing. Looking good.

Sorry Mark, didn't catch your question back a few. Yes that is a Rufe in the background, it's the old Tamiya kit but still makes a good build

hey guys here are a few more pics of the build. pulled out the cover to an actual tow missle i fired and was thinking of incorperating it into the build but i dont like it too much. thought it would be cool to show you guys. i know the missles arent exactly the right color. tamiya calls for olive drab for the missles but that is definately not the color they were more of an olive green so thats what i painted them close but no cigar. but when i put the cover on they look right without being in direct light so i guess i will leave them . but enough out of me here are a few more pics.

steve if i knew you were in NYC i would have told you to stop by hope you didnt have to wait too long going to JFK

I finally have enough work done on my VTANG F-16C to warrant an update:

Here's the current status of my build:
The kit seat with added lead foil straps with wire buckles.
I added a wire "hose" to the oxygen bottle on the side and added the pull ring and emegency release handle to the sides. Also some little bits of rod on either pitot arm.

I used the kit decals on the consoles and panel since I want a fairly simple build. The only additions here are a couple of discs punched out with a Waldron set for the buttons and knobs on the stick and throttle. I have a piece of guitar string to make the G-suit and oxygen lines out of.

Here's the intake after filing, fitting, filling and sanding. And paint. It took a little time but wasn't a real trouble. How come Academy left that bit step on the front edge of the intake bottom piece? I'll mask off the part to remain white before I attach it to the fuselage.

Thanks Kenny, John and Steve.

More progress.

The F-111 had the worlds worst intake design and although constantly modified and several re-designs it continued to hamper the F-111 throughout it's service life.

These are the Vortex generators, One of the many 'fixes' that tried to make a silk purse from a sow's ear.

I've painted the walkways as the decals are really brittle and they're very hard to weather.

I've got the top colours painted tonight.

The family gets together on Sunday for Christmas in January and it's looking like the 111 won't be ready. There is still too much to do. It's a pain though as I'm so close.

Thanks guys.

Mark

Thanks Eric, no intrusion at all. I appreciate your comments.

Well guy's I am back from my holidays and it's good to be back. After I get work caught up I will be back to the building, hopefully by the end of the week.

Kenny, I was thinking of ya as I was stuck in traffic on Friday trying to get out of JFK and back to Va. The Hummer is taking shape nicely.

Mark, great job.

Had a win with the wings!

They're in place and I'm ready for putty.

I also managed to get the 2 fuselage halfs together without the massive step that most guys complain about. I've had it myself on another kit I built so thought I'd try making a sleeve for the the two to join on. I din't take any photo's of it though as I wasn't really confident it would be any good. Pity. I'd like to have a photo or two to show others who plan to build the Academy kit.

I've also included some photo's of the intake trunking I've made using Milliput. Academ just had a plastic brace across the fuselage with engine faces on it and it looked pretty poor. I've moved the engines to roughly the right position as well. When I dummy fit the rest of the intake it looks pretty good

Cheers

Thanks for the encouragement guys.

Still fighting the wings on my thing.

Kenny.

At the moment your Humvee looks like it was parked in Woodridge (Not too nice a suburb in Queensland) overnight. You could make a good Dio with it.

All you need is some 1/35th scale besser blocks for it to sit on and you'd be set.Wink [;)]

I'll keep an eye out in the local classifieds and see if your wheels turn up for sale.

Seriously though, it's looking pretty good.

John,

Your bird looks set for paint.

Is that a Ruffe in the back ground? Looks good.

Have a good day everyone.

Happy New Year everyone.

Welcome to the build Leon.

Good to see the progress people have made on their builds.

Mist, I really hope you get your decals soon.

I've just got back from a camping trip and am getting back into the swing of things.

Here are some photo's of the cockpit for my Dad's F-111.

I missed the Christmas deadline, but as he's an airline pilot,  I've got till the middle of January before we catch up for 'our' Christmas.

At the moment I'm having a major issue fitting the wings as with all the cutting that went on the're both warped and twisted in different ways and the wing tips heights vary by about 1 inch. I need to get these in so I can start on the majority of the putty work.

Cheers

Mark

I'm new to the whole GB thing, and am wondering, can I join in on a GB like this, that has already kicked off...past its start date?

an update on mine.  My LHS where i have ordered my decals, has run into problems so i don't know when i'm gonna get them.  I'd order online but with no credit cards and the like it's hard to.  I'm giving it another week and they're not in by then, i'll have to use the decals that came with the bird
