Thanks, it is the 1/48h Italeri kit. Paint job has been hard to find out any info on, you may be right, any info you could provide would be appreciated.

Sorry about your decals, maybe best to wait until after the first of the year, shipping amounts should be lower

Nice snake ya got there John. What kit is that anyway, the 1/48 Italeri? As far as that paint scheme goes that you had in the picture, I believe its the test scheme for some Iranian birds. Cant recall exactly, unfortunatly Im away from my books so I couldnt give ya an exact answer.

Ok.  I was all set to put the decals on tonight.  But the hobby store said that they were folded in half ans tore all to shreds from the delivery people.  I won't say any names.  {Cough} Fedex {cough}.  So they are ordering another set that won't be here until Friday.  Censored [censored] Banged Head [banghead] Censored [censored] Banged Head [banghead] Censored [censored] Banged Head [banghead] Censored [censored] Banged Head [banghead]

Keeping your CA in the refrig is a good idea, it will last longer also.

Just got my book yesterday, been going through it, don't know how much help it will be for painting my bird, but it does have a good history of the Cobra and is up-to-date

Thanks John and Kenny.

Kenny, I know what you mean, you'd think the holidays are the time I'd get the most done yet it seems I've got less spare time on holidays than I do when I'm working.

John,

Thanks for the tip on the CA. The problem I'm having is that the stuff is going off before I can even get the part near the spot it's supposed to go.

It's the middle of summer here in Queensland with temps in the low 40 deg C and humidity is through the roof so I'm going to try keeping the glue in the fridge and see if that will slow it down a little.

Have you got your cobra book yet?

I'm really keen to see what scheme you're going to do it in.

Looks good, Mark, keep it coming.

If you have a LHS handy, check to see if they have any kicker for CA glues. Helps dry them quicker, play around with it on scrap first though to get the hang of it.

Here's some of my WIP photo's from the weekend.

The cockpit it the Verlinden F-111 set and has heaps of Photo Etch. The resin is nice and the detail is great.

(The canopy has tape on it to protect it while working on it)

Static discharge

I'm really enjoying this build, all the research has paid off and I get a real kick from adding the little details. That being said, I look forward to a straight out of the box build to help wind down when this is done.

Thanks Steve and John for your advice on the CA Glue.

I've bought some different types and have started playing with them. I can't say I really like the speed they cure in but it's something I'll have to learn how to deal with.

I've had a really productive weekend. I've got the majority of the second wing built, started painting my cockpit and got the PE applied to the cockpit sidewalls.

I've cut my canopy out to show it with the hatches open and am presently avoiding the photo etch frame untill I have the fuselage halfs together as then I'll be able to adjust the PE to spread the canopy if needed.

I've also got the control surfaces together and for  little bit of extra detail I've added the static discharge's to the trailing edges.

I'll post some photo's tomorrow when the camera is charged.

Books and my follow modeller's have been my best source of info on many a/c

EDIT: My new part finally arrived and the glue is drying as I type this and it had a molding flaw also, but at least I was able to repair it

With resin and PE you are stuck using CA or epoxy, but epoxy has a 5 minute set time so you have to hold together for that time period. Best bet is CA, take some scrap resin and play with it first to get a better hang for using it.

Got a new Cobra book coming, will hold off final decision on paint scheme until I review it.

Mark, thanks for the comments,it really did come out good on the hood, I did not even think amout it until I seen the photos on the computer. I do plan on dirtying it up a bit but it has no panell lines and I think it needs a little something to jazzzz it up a bit. I will probably use pastel chalks to give it some depth. As far as resin goes I use the super glue, I have only about a dozen expierences with it but works great all the time. Same goes for PE, just use it sparingly. It does not take much and you dont want to mess with cleaning up oozzee. On clear parts I use the Testors clear cement made for glass parts and can also be used to make windows, mainly for small fuselage windows as it will spread or stretch from one side to another. It goes on foggy but cures cristal clear. It does have problems with bad fitting canopies as it takes a while to cure. I have also used superglue for canopies but you have to be very careful with it as it can fog the part. If you prep the canopy by dipping it in Future floor wax first it protects the canopy from fogging, but use the glue sparingly, only a few drops here and there will hold it and cut down the possibility of fogging. Hope that helps ya Mark. By the way, awsome work on the wings and flaps etc. You must have a lot of patients. It will be worth it when the bird is finished. Steve.

Mist,

That F-14 of yours is looking really good, I can't wait to see it with the decals.

Steve,

The A-4 is Looking great too. I like the way the photo's turned out using the hood as background.

Are you going to dirty it up or leave it nice and clean?

John,

I'm keen to see your Cobra with it's war paint. She looks pretty good in your photo's.

I don't know much about helo's but the Cobra is right up there on my list.

I've started on the other wing of the F-111. The kit wing started with 2 pieces and now has over 50! It's going together about twice as fast as the other wing so it should only take about one week to get done.

To break up the monotony, I've started painting the cockpit between coats of putty.

I recieved my wheels, decals and Mk-82 Snakeyes in the mail this week so now I have no excuses. These are resin and the last time I tried to use this I had the CA glue drying before I had the stuff in position. What glue do you guys use for resin?

Has anyone here used Photo Etch before?

What is the best glue to use on this stuff?

What can I use to glue a cockpit frame to the canopy without it going all white?

Thanks guys.

Mark

Thanks for the comments Mist,Kenny and John. I managed to get more details from my old photos so I will be going at it hard this weekend. I can almost see the finish line now. John, like the Cobra a lot and hope to see it in Marine Corps colours, at least thats my vote for the paint job for what it's worth. Hint,Hint,Hint. Steve.

Leaning towards this paint scheme, but have been unable to obtain any other info other than a black and white and this color photo's. Only thing is no squadron marking, photo's are from Bell and it is a factory applied paint.

Got this photo in an e-mail today. Question, is a hunting permit needed and what kind of kill marking would be put on the F-16?

Nice looking progress Mist, good looking build. Looking forward to seeing it completed.

On my front, the A-4 is moving along and got most of the decals on this weekend. I have to start the custom decals or paint now so it's strtategy time.

Not much, but progress all the same.

Great build, Mist.

Still waiting for my part, but I did finish building my AH-1T, just have to make a choice on color scheme to paint it( have a choice of Marine Green, 3-tone cammo or a dark tan from a photo I found)and have been working on two Zeke's(type 21 and 52) and a Rufe
