Star Trek federation tribute build

Ok, here's where I'm at and am havin' some difficulty...

To start off with, I used Krylon grey primer on this, painted the Phaser bank with Testors Silver the same time I tried painting the base (no problems on saucer) Now I used Micro mask to mask this off which I sprayed Dk. Gunship grey (Testors) now,  as you can see, I'm having a time getting the mask off!! Any suggestions?

All I can say is Griff, you said a mouthful.  It is difficult finding time to model when "daily life" steps in. I am currently unemployed, living alone except for the Psycho Kitty (from H E double hockey sticks) yet, I am lucky to get 15-20 minutes a day on average to model. But here lately, I've had an old friend visiting & it's hard to model. Try to discuss old times while trying to paint. I also had a serious plumbing problem to contend with recently in which I had to tear apart a piece of the wall & rebuild it.

I am glad the deadline is June 1st. If I finish by then that's great! If not, I will when it's done

Some of us just don't have the time to work several hours a day on their models tho, Joey.  You gotta keep that in mind, dude.  If you've already finished w/yours (I forget if you have or not), you're prolly one of the lucky folks who don't have:

1) A Demanding Job(s);

B) A family; 

iii) high school / college classes; or,

IV) a combination of the three. 

 As such, not everyone builds at the same rate, nor would I call it an "excuse" because you only have maybe 1 hour out of every day where you're not driving to work/school/home, at work/school, spending time w/family - especially important when you have children - or trying to get at least six hours of sleep a night and decide to spend that one hour on your back porch drinking a beer, soaking in the tub or whatever to just relax and not use your brain.  To say that everyone uses these as an "excuse" the way you do above is kind of insulting, dude.

'Sides, the deadline as it was told to us some months ago is 1 June, 2007.  We've still got 4 months and 27 or so days by my counting. 

I say just keep going till your done

Umm, I was suspended for 3 weeks.. Kinda hard to participate when that happens? Luckily we had Ed and Bud here to hold the fort!

As for cancelling the build, I wanted to do that at the beginning because of the lack of interest. But everyone made a point to keep it going. So who am I to argue with that..  Anyways, you dont need 400 people to play a banjo, so I say lets keep it going and enjoy what ever comes out of it..

If you dont want to be a part of it, then that is up to you!

Well Ed, I havnt even touched a model in about a month now.. I started the assembly and prime coat on the 1/1400 Ent E before I went away, but havnt touched anything since.. Infact I still have the bottom saucer section of the 1/1400 Enterprise D to finish before that is finished also, and just cant get the excitement in me to finish it.. I will eventually, but when I take so long on a single project, my mind starts to wonder, and I lose interest.. Dont get me wrong, they always get done eventually, but that doesnt excuse the 10 or so kits that sit waiting in state to be finished.. I know how you feel about the aztec on the E-D.. I thought the big one was a pain to do!

Well, I am using the Testors Enamel paints over a Krylon lt. grey primer. which I

had sanded between the coats. I've used the Silver over this  primer before and had no troubles with it. just seems that when I use it on a large area is where I have the trouble. But anywho, I think I got the problem solved with the foil

I'm hoping to get the D in the paint shop tomorrow, at least the saucer section anyways. Makin' meself go cross-eyed with masking it off

The reason the silver pulled up was probably because the plastic was shiney or had been handled too much.. What I would have done is given the parts a good old sand with a fine paper to give the silver something to cling to. I am not sure what paints you have used, but I would have used acrilics also.. Also, as a rule. If I am going to use both flat, and gloss colours. I generally do the flat colours first. The reason being is that when spraying over shiny or glossy surfaces, then the paint simply wont sit. Its the same when you paint over glossy paints.. Thats what happened 2 years ago if you remember when I did my first 1/350 refit.. I tried to be lazy and cut corners, and spray over the gloss.. Well. I eventually had to sand that hole thing down and start again..

Anyways mate, no matter what you do, I am sure you will make a nice job of the display!

Thanks Chris. I had painted it silver but, when I masked off after a few daysfor the flat black on the sides the Silver pulled up & dusted off on my finger tips. I tried several things but, this idea was mentioned so, I am running with it. So far, it seems to be working out ok.

Speaking of the other subjects, I am masking off the upper saucer section on the D right now. Gonna try an Aztec pattern using dfferent greys 

Thanks Bud, It's a tedious thing & I'm probably doing things wrong (as usually the case) but hey, at least I'm learning from it I'm using Elmer's white glue which seems to be doing ok but, I see a few problems to deal with.

As I said over in the SciFi forum when asked: I came back because several folks here PM'd and emailed me to remind me that these forums are for everyone and not to allow myself to be run off.  Last time I checked these forums aren't restricted for membership beyond etiquette and standards and that's still the case. 

To whit, I did what a lot of folks do on a daily basis: I changed my mind after receiving some positive external influence.

No problem.  I was pretty excited to see that date extended to June as that gives me plenty of time - and pretty much no valid excuse! - to finish up at least one of the models in my box.  I've not worked on them in almost three weeks, now, but tonight's my night off and I plan to get to some work on assembling here in a little while.  It could happen. 

 Also, the guy who had taken the digicam pics for me already rotated back and says his battery died and dumped the five or six pics he took for me.  As such I've got one of the gals here w/a digicam going to take pics for me next time I bring my stuff in to The Job.

Thanks Bud. It's not the greatest job for a first attempt. I'm also using Elmer's white

glue since I  don't have anything else. I see a few problem areaswhich don't show in the pic. mostly along the bottom edge (wrinkles)

Hey Chris, I think this one here is the finalized version

Haven't heard from Capt yet so have posted it here. With the G/B suppose to end on the 7th. I don't see how I can complete my build(s) by then. I'm trying to foil my base right now

Great work on your 3 pce set.. Did you decide on the badge you were going to use.. I guess somebody has to make a decision on something in this GB, and so as I liked all of the ones you showed me, I just say choose the one you like and make it the badge!..
