Hey Chris, that's a nice stash you have thereThumbs Up [tup] I have a few questions about your paint booth, is that a store bought or did you make it yourself? Is it vented out the window or, did ya poke a hole in the wall to vent it?

What size is your USS Reliant btw?

hey Cpt. I had forgotten about wanting to join & went back and read the other thread since in my excitement of having a possible job  I forgot about a number of things.Banged Head [banghead] Then spending 9hrs. on a bus to get there, most of the 1 day doing paperwork, pre-hire physical, drug screening & such. Seeing other people get booted right after their interviews... I had blown it when I got called into the onsite recruiter's office on the 2nd  day and told i was getting  the boot. No, I didn't kick their A%&es but, spending 10 hours on a bus to get home got me to thinking Labor Board, BBB, and some other things as well.

I tell ya man, it was a mess. They made up there own rules as they go, their "Curriculum" (sp?) was all about here's the CDL handbook. Study it as we'll be testing you tomorrow!!. I had several classmates flocking around me for guideance since the instructors weren't instructing....

Capt.. I have tried to be a good influence, and even though I have my doubts that we have a great participation, I have really wanted to get the build going.. Kinda why I have expressed my dissapointment at the lack of interest..

The problem is, that I feel that I am the only one talking, and that kinda leaves me out there.. I am then followed by "you know who" with a smart comment, and that just riles me up.. Maybe I am being paranoid, but I am tired of it...

Better off I do my own thing, and just chill out...  I sometimes want to say what I really think.. But being an Australian, I would make most men blush if I said what I really felt.. So it's best to leave it..

I also have an issue with other members who just post to get their post numbers up, and dont have anything interesting to say.. One of which visits this board and knows who I am talking about!

Hey Cpt. Sponder, I see you've got me down for this & I appreciate it. Still undecided on which kit I want to do for it. More than likely one of the 1/2500 Es I have in my stash...  a toss up between the 1701, the D and E.  Seems like there is not much participation in here but hey, things could change at any given timeSmile [:)] Stranger things have happened....

Seeing how the prospective job fell through on me, I am doing what I can to get back into the swing of things. The Driving school part of it was a big joke to say the least.Needless to say I was not amused with the whole situation. Got down there & lasted 2 days & got booted from the program & to top it off, I was stranded some 300 miles from home & had to find my own way back! Why? Because the made up the rules as they go along.... That just Censored [censored]SoapBox [soapbox] chaffs my  hide.

You know what Griff... Just shut up dude.. I have had enough of your crap..

It seems that every thread you visit, you either start taking over and telling people to stick to topic and becomming the rule police, or you have something smart to say.. Good example is your latest little swipe in my TOS thread.. Atleast everyone ignored you in that one..

And then in your defence, you bring up the, but I got in trouble for doing it, so why not you.. Its just so childish and lame!.... (I have also noticed you have replaced your charactaristic eye rolling smiley with the "just being honest" comment.. What up with that??)

Seriously, I am out of this build, because I simple cant stand your childish crap..  I tried to atleast call a truce a while back, but your constant chip on your shoulder simply wont go away, and so for that I feel sorry for you..

Capt, I am sorry, but I would really love to help out, but I want to avoid anymore ill feeling..... Go and have a look around at other threads in the GB section.. When not alot happens, the guys do different things like I suggested to keep the thread alive and interesting.. If you guys arent interested in that, then thats cool, there is no offence taken..

I only mentioned it 'caused I've been grilled by certain other members for allegedly taking threads off-topic in the past simply 'cause I was responding to something said about me in the thread by another member.  I was raised that if you correct someone else you best be able to stand being corrected yourself once in a while.

anyway, to go a bit on topic myself:

i remember you guys give me the advice about using pearlish paints for hulls, but they seemed to never have heared of it in my local shop.

So i bought a few white jars, and several teints of grey, and im thinking of mixing them in order to get a nice broken white for my exelsior.

You guys have  any advice here about the greys to use? mixing ratio's? etc?..

 thanks guys!

Best thing I can tell you w/o having done so myself in a while is to experiment w/paints on similarly treated plastics or at least items using the same type of primer you'll be using on your model.  For the most part, tho, you should only need to add a couple of drops of a gray to white to get a slight contrast in the colors.  Remember that it depends on how much paint your mixing, as well.

You might also try using some aluminum mixed in with white.  Again, just a couple of drops depending on how much paint you're going to use and what sort of effect you're looking for.

No problem.  And 1 June 07 is a very generous time frame!  Even *I* should be able to finish my models well in advance of that deadline.  Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Meh, don't worry about it, dude.  I used to have a horrible workbench setup in our old house.  We moved to a new house at the end of last year, however, so I was able to start from scratch and come up with something a bit more tenable in the way of storage and work space.  The bulk of my Stash is in a storage unit off-base.  I've got most of my 1/2500 scale and all of my BSG stuff at the house, however.

But, to bring this away from an Off-Topic turn and back towards the original topic....

Got some pics taken by one of the guys here finally.  However, he doesn't have a cable for his camera here.  He's going to get his wife to send it to him so we can DL the stuff to his laptop, then transfer it to my desktop here at The Job.  All I've done up to this point is to finish cleaning up the Dreadnought and clean up the PNT Models Avenger.  I've not yet started on the Andor-class PT cruiser, but hope to perhaps find the time this evening.  I'll also snap some pics of the master I'm making of a 1/2500 Trek kit for VA Miniatures.

Remco.. Excellent work.. Cant wait to see some pics.. You may be the first to complete this group build.....

As for me.. You all know that I have just finished my TOS Enterprise, and I am still working on my Enterprise D.. But I decided that my group build kit will be the USS Reliant..

Well I actually started this kit at the start of the summer, but got sidetracked and didnt really get far.. So much so that I left the tape on the main saucer section from when I glued the two saucer section pieces together.. Well tonight, I decided to take the kit out of the stash, take the tape off, and get her ready for the group build..

Also as something different, I decided to take a picture of one of my stash's of kits and my work space for something fun.. I would like everyone to do something similar so we can see where you work..

The Reliant kit..

Ok.. I have 2 sets of kits that I keep.. I have my known set, and my secret stash.. I also collect the odd rare, Japanese, or collectors kit.. This is my "to do" stash... Since this pic was taken, I have since added 2 more 1/48 X-Wing Fighters. Another Darth Vader Tie Advancd. A 1978 Takara 1/72 X-Wing. Fine Molds Jango Fett Slave 1. A Millenium Falcon, and a few Bandai Star Trek kits. Also a new 1/48 MiG29UB, and an 18" TOS Enterprise.. AMT Enterprise E, 1/2500 Enterprise B,C, E set, and 1/2500 Enterprise TOS, A, D set..

This is my work space. As you can see, I have built my own paint booth with my airbrush set up at the side, and the can selection I have dating back before my airbrush.. I should also get around to finishing that mobile suit too!.. The X-Wing in that pic, is the one that I completed to go in that 1/48 X-Wing/ Y-Wing display that I did..

If you're referring to the links above in this page of the thread, I think I might have given it to you previously, too.  That's the same guy to whom I have a request in for who else he might know to be producing these decals.

I'll LYK what I find out.

Thanks all

Each of these are 1/3788 scale.... yea I know SMALL. Now some of you saw that I posted some of these before looking for decals. The one's I am going to build for this GB are others I had and I am still looking for decals.....

For the names of the ships. I know know yet.

I hope this is ok with y'll

Have a GREAT day

Forgot to post this yesterday, but I got a response back from Jay:

Well, I've somewhat gone away from doing those since I can't really guarantee the quality of them as much anymore with the amount of work needed. I like to offer as much as possible a turn key product and it seems like the current batches of ALPS cartridges don't do the fine stuff quite as well like they used to. I have ways around it by using the multi-pass black option, but then when I try to clearcoat with Micrscale decal film, the letters like to float off the sheet like alphabet soup. I still may go back to doing them one of these days, but since ALPS is stopping support on the printers, I would like to ration what I have for my own uses (as long as I can get cartridges anyway).

There have been a couple other producers of markings in this scale that have popped up to take up the slack and in some cases they are doing things that are better then what I had done. The future is never set though, so who knows what will happen in the not too distant future.

I inquired as to who he might know of whom is producing decals for that scale, but have not received a response back.

great to see the activity here!!

looks like our concerns were a bit premature chris (phew!!) nice!

time to update the OP!!

The number of participants shouldn't really set the tone of success or not, IMO.  Strong participation, however, should.  It seems we've got some fairly decent participation going on, thus far.  Especially with a couple of folks choosing multiple models to build for this particular GB.

And speaking of...  I'd like to enter two other 1/2500 scale models.  I have a kit of a modified version of a FASA Star Trek RPG design for the Andor I'm going to start cleaning up a bit later this morning and have a PNT Models Avenger-class heavy frigate (think Reliant) that I'm giong to start on after that.  I will do my best to have them both assembled and ready for primering and painting when I get back to Stateside along w/the Federation DN I'm already listed for.

and sure Dubau: a nice shuttle is ok too!! :) allthough the drawings / pics of the ships look great too!! you have any class names though?

I'm not Dubau, but I can sorta help, as I can see three of the four images right now.  The first is the Constitution-class heavy cruiser, the next is the Federation-class dreadnought, the third is most likely the Ptolemy-class transport/tug and the fourth is the Saladin/Hermes Destroyer/Scout (minor differences between the two).  All are from the Franz Joseph Designs "Star Fleet Technical Manual", first published in 1975 (I think it was).

also since this GB is to pay tribute to youre favo actors, you allready thought about the names? (means custum decals!!:D )

also, since you guys allready started, lets forget about the starting date eh? GB is open now!!

(no more excuses for myself, gotta get to work!!!) :)

keep those pics comming guys!

Do we have a firm closing date, yet?  Give us maybe four to six months, please?  That way I can prolly have a couple different models finished when I leave here, just requiring painting and decaling when I get home.   Please? Smile [:)]

Well Captain.. Another member made a point of telling me that in the last ST Group build they had 14 or something sign up, and well, it didnt go very far.. Not harping, but........................

I honestly do hope we get some more interest, but if it hasnt come yet...  And I know that I sound like the doom and gloom guy. But I only say it, because I think its a great idea and would also like to see more people join up.. But if they dont, then it does become a little dissapointing is all...

But I still have my Reliant waiting in the wings!
