Hi All,  sorry I have'nt been around much of late (only a sneek peak once in a while) work has been insane with the new B777 being inroduced to the fleet and A319 ETOPS operations not much time or energy left for the Bear to model. Now that things are getting back to normal whatever that is I should be able to get some bench time.

To the rest Nice progress All.  I wish I had some progress to report however not much has been done.  I'm waiting for the weather to warm up so I can start primeing and painting.  I also have 2 other builds in line for paint.

the turret and front part of the hull is painted. I got the CIPs on today w/o too much fuss. I just need to plug up a few things attach parts here and there and add those finishing touches before the final coat of paint.

I picked up Testor Dullcoat today to cut down the sharpie's shine on the roadwheels.

What color should I paint the tracks? I am on that stage right now, and I am thinking of very dark gray or black with some white in it (or white with some black in it) and just drybrushing the sides with silver. after that I will probably mist the lower areas of the model with very thinned color that looks like sand but doesnt look like the color that the tank is painted in. Would you recomment a lighter color or a darker one? I think a darker one will show more usage on the tank, but pics show that tan colored tanks were pretty clean looking...

not all of us can vie for the coveted turtle award mph but glad to hear about your progress sorry about the gravity though :(

the light sand is actually a lot lighter in the picture than it is in real life.

I must admit, as much as the coveted turtle award is an honor that intrests me; I must come clean and admit major work towards completion on my B-25G.  I ask for thy royalness' forgiveness in this act.

If it will help to make the forgiveness easier to give, I must inform all of a serious accident last night.  As I was working on some of the decals, I must have momentarily lost some of my concentration, and placed some focus onto the Nuggets game that I had on in the background.  At this time, said work table decided that the earth's gravity must have lessened some, as the table and the front landing gear of the B-25G meet, in a most unkind way for the B-25G.  That landing gear is not very well re-inforced, and well, I now have a B-25G with a 'nose gear up' landing.  It is repairable, though I am not sure if structural integretity of the fornt landing gear will be there now.

update on the abrams-

afraid that i will go overboard and will lose interest in the build, i decided to do a simple all light tan finish. Turret is all assembled except for fiddly bit which I will add at the end of the build and the frontal armor which i will cut out and add today.

wheels are all painted and the lower hull is just about done except for headlights and the sideskirts.

after painting-

i will take off the parts with periscopes and at that time i will cut out clear parts and insert them into the openings. i wouldnt be able to stand all the masking

paint the tracks, put them on, sideskirts go on, extra stowage and fiddly bits go on, decal, some dusting with tannish or dark yellow paint, wash and BAM

hopefully, I will carry those out well :D

Hmmm... definitely seems to be a problem with the seam around the landing gear in that second photo!!  Otherwise a flawless job. one of those perfect builds we all can only dream of!   Congadulations and happy birthday to the latest future modeler  

congrats to you and the mrs. boyd gorgeous baby. nothing like it in the world but i know one thing when we had our baby boy did the modelling slow down when he was first born. but on the other hand being with the baby is such a more rewarding experience.

Well, I don't have anything to report on my Stormovik, but I did want to share a build with you guys that I am particularly proud of.  This is one of those builds that just seems to go flawlessly.  When I started it, I figured it should take about 40 weeks, start to finish, based on my experience with this type of thing.  And, don't you know, on the 40th week to the day, BAM, it was done.  It's a heavy sucker too - 9 lbs 3 ozs...  Gotta rig up a special display case for it or something.  I think my only concern is the paint job.  I'm just not certain I am satisfied with the weathering.  It looks better in the second photo, but that one highlights the position problems I'm facing - what story am I trying to tell...?  It seems very confusing to me, but still, I am very pleased with how it all came out.  I'd be interested in all of your comments.

Future is fine for putting a gloss coat on.  Did you brush it on or use an airbrush?  AB is preferable.

If it doesn't look great, you can shoot another coat of future in thin coats.  Since it self levels, it should come out better.  Alternately, shoot a coat of semi-gloss over the future to see if that evens out the finish.

A couple of your don'ts aren't really don'ts.  There's nothing wrong with the Testors tube glue as long it's the red tube, not the blue.  There's nothing wrong with Revell-Monogram either, they just take a little more effort and patience.  That being said, the RM F-106 is notorious for poor fit and is a difficult build at best.

Can't disagree with anything else you learned.  Any landing you can walk away from is a good one.

I just finished coating my F-106 in Future for gloss and I must say it looks despicable. But I guess this plane was a kind of testing ground. It's the first large-scale (anything other than 1/72) model I've built in over a year. I've learned a lot of dont's from it. (Not many do's).

• Don't use paints not meant for ABing
• Don't Allow paint to drip on the canopy
• Don't use rubbing alchohol on said paints to clean for another coat
• Don't put so much gloss on for decals
• Don't let 2 large seams crack open near the end of the build (AKA use better glue! [Not Tube Glue])
  
• Don't Buy Revell Monogram until you have a clue what you're doing 

P.S. - Should I have used Future or something actually meant for models. I realized halfway through how dumb I was. I have two large bottles of clear gloss upstairs!!!

Well fellas, here a shot of the Mig.

Those engine intakes took a LONG time for me to get right.
Every build has it's major hurdle: for this kit it was the intakes.
the inboard area was completely wrong, so much so it made the
plane look quite different.  I basically had to resculpt and rebuild
the whole inboard sections.

I hope my efforts produce somthing worthwhile, but quite honestly
I'm not quite sure how they'll look after the primer layer.  Sometimes
what looks and feels like a smooth surface, just isn't one when the
paint goes on.  Know what I mean?  :-)

Anyhow, I figure it's all down hill from here. *famous last words*
