Hey Guy's, well I have some progress to show ya. I finished re-scribing the F-4 and it was a lot of fun. I learnt a lot from that process. She is primed and I painted the whole thing white as an undercoat as well as the bottom colour. For the fun of it I filled all the panells with a pencil to see how it looks and I think I will keep it for the underside and might play with it for the top. Masking the top tonight and the grey goes on tomorrow.

I dont think I posted this before but here is the aircraft I am modelling and trying to recreate. Hope to get it halfway close to the real thing.

P.S. What do you guy's think, too much on the panells or toned down a little.

It looks pretty darn good.  Sometimes paint has trouble adheiring to pencil marks, but it may provide a desireable effect.  Less paint adhearing in the panels would make for a dark/shadow effect for the joints.  Enough of the paint may stick to tone down and blend in the panel lines.  I think you're on the right track, but be careful not to do anything that can't be undone.  Keep playing around with it, because it looks great.

one small report on my /172  hornet. i put it on some steroids the other night and now its a 1/48 hornet i even may have some decals for the hornet i just havent heard back from the guy yet. i am also waiting for a resin set to come in for the hornet. i sre do hope that when academy release thier new hornet it wont be a pita like the hasegawa are. i have a closet full of these 1/72 hornets and it looks like thier will be a big stash  cleaning on ebay.

OK, I'm chiming in here. Big Smile [:D]

The Eagle, Hornet and the Phantom Progress look fantastic. I am looking forward to seeing them finished. Steve, One little suggestion, I think you should try a graphite rub over the panel lines. This is the same technique I use to shade and weather panel lines. Use the rub over the top of the Phantom and let the bottom alone and just add proper weathering to it. I have explained the technique on some of my past posts and you will likely find it the Techniques Forum.

The progress is top notch guys!

As for myself, I have shelved the Spitfire and have pulled down my Revell 1/32 F-14A and will get started on that most likely this weekend. This bird will be for the GB here and again will represent one of the VF-32 Swordsmen Gulf of Sidra Mig Killers. I will be doing some more reseach on the planes detail to see if I need any aftermarket detail to add. I do believe I am going to need a chin pod for it. Funny thing about this kit is as old as it is, it has the recessed panel lines which makes me believe it's a repacked Tamiya or Hasegawa kit and will be all the more fun to build. I will keep you guys posted on my progress with pics.

Sign - Dots [#dots] I wonder if Eddie Miller needs a set of 1/32 VF-1 Wolfpack decals? hehehehe.

Happy Modeling!

another report on the hornet it has been shelved i just hate these darn hasegawa kits they are such a pita to try and get them to turn out right. and to think i have over 30 of these things in the closet  but they are being  cleared out to old ebay to make room for the 1/48 hornets i sre do wish academy will hurry up and relese thier new hornet. and as for the 1/48 that one to has been shelved  but do not fear i am not droping out of the group build i have a f-16 that will be built for the mig killers gb i have the kit all ready but i am waiting for some photo etch and decals to come in. so if you guys want some 1/72 hornets to add to the stash just give me a holler thru email thanks rob.

Grumpy [|(]Just my luck!

No one makes 1/32 F-14A VF-32 decals so I have decided to go with VF-41 for my 1/32 Cat. I will build my 1/48 Cat as VF-32 later since there are decals available for it. Superscale/Microscale used to make a 1/32 sheet for VF-32 and I have looked high and low for it, seems most aftermarket decal makers no longer produce it. I can find the decals in 1/48 but not 1/32.

Bummer! I guess I'll have to live with it, oh well. Sigh [sigh]

Hey all, here's some pics of the cockpit I took with my new camera.  I'm still working on the seats, I'll post some pics of those when they are done.

Henry

PS, Hey Rand, good to see you back. Sorry I didn't get to see ya before you left OKC.

Nice cockpit progress Henry. it is really comming along nicely. Keep the progress comming.

Hey Ga, sorry about all the Hornet problems. Are the Hase really that bad/, just wondering as most of their kits go together well. Is it the same problem with the 1/72 as with the 1/48?.

Rand what is your next step on the build, sticking with the 1/32 or will you switch to a 1/48.

On my front the top colour is on and looking good to me. All the masks are off except for the canopy and now time for some detail paint jobs. I will post some photos tomorrow.

Well Steve,

I think I will be sticking with the Revell 1/32 Cat and dress her up as VF-41 "Black Aces" Gulf of Sidra Fitter Killer. Although they dont exactly have a Mig kill it will certainly be a welcome addition to my collection. I will post progress in the Aircraft Forums since its not a Mig Killer, so be watching there for progress info and pics.

Next project will definately be the 1/48 Revell Cat with VF-32 markings.

Ok, so some more bad progress shots to show ya. I was too lazy to break out my photo booth with all the X-mas stuff around and all. All the base colours are done and now to do some detail painting, gear doors, steel and wheels and fuel tanks. Hope to get some done this weekend. Better shots are comming.

Thanks for the tip Rand, I think I will try it on this one. Fingers crossed.

well sidure their not that bad some times i can get them to turn out great but most of the times i end up trashing them. thier are only really two bad places on the whole kit its right at the air intake and near the back of the plane were the formation light is. as for the 1/48 hasegawas thier great and so are the 1/48 revells thier more work but you can turn out a very nice hornet. i am working extremly slow on my f-16 as i really do not want to screw this one up. so far it has come together very nice and not one bit of puttie so far anywere and thats a frist for me.. its tamiya new tooled f-16cj kit and its worth every penny of it. the only thing i dont like about the kit is the havled the nose instead of giving you a whole nose for the kit but outer than that a very nice kit to get. i will get some pics up here this afternoon i have a long time freind coming over and havent seen her in some time so were going to have some fun today. i will try and get some more work done on it  later in the day.

GA,

That Viper looks good! Looking forward to seeing it finished. I have a 1/32 Viper in my stash I am a long way off from building. She will be a Navy Aggressor when I get around to starting it.

I am still working on the pit of my 1/32 Tomcat. I have been doing a lot of detailing from scratch and its almost finished. I will post WIP pics in the Aircraft forum as soon as I am finished. I have added levers, handles, and seat belts all from wire and foil. I think its the most realistic looking pit I have done to date and all done from photo references. I think you guys will agree once you have seen it.

That is a very nice looking interior. Is that a PE set from the kit or is it AM. It is very realistic and will be great when the fuselage is buttoned up. Nice work.

I hope to get some work done on the F-4 this weekend.

thanks for the comments guys. yep its all photo etch by edaurds and is 1/48 for the new tamiya f-16cj kit. i am really hooked on this stuff it makes the cockpit look so much better than the decals they put in sometimes. ihope to have the top and bottom buttoned up toady along with the hud,i/p bang seat, canopy and the fuel tanks done with the phot etch stuff. but i did run into my frist snafu i have either missed place my control stick or the carpet monster has gotten ahold of it and you can forget about finding it on this tan carpet. but other than that a trouble free build.

well i have hit my frist real bad snfu. while putting together the top and bottom fuslage together.  i had the following all break off. the rear bulkhead for the cockpit, the left side photo etch panel, and one very small control knob and one t-handle on the right side of the cockpit. needless to say that was it for last nights building. i spent about 30 minutes looking for the small pe stuff that went onto the carpet monster but the good news i found all of them. i have all ready got the bulkhead back into the fuslage and i am working on the rest of the pe today. the i will try and get the i/p done and then ready for painting.

Great looking bang seats GA, bang up job on it, looks all the business. Sorry to hear of all your wowes in the cockpit, been there done that. Take a deep breath and go at it again my friend. I did get some work done on the F-4 in the last week and a lot of the fiddly bits were worked on today. I was going to decal it today but instead decided to get the weapons, whells etc finished up first. If all goes well I will decal tomorrow. One more bad progress shot.

Hope to post more progress soon.

I hope to get back on track with the Skyhawk.

I got a little sidetracked trying to finish a Tomcat for the F-14 GB before the deadline.....but now I am ready to focus on the scooter until it is finished. Which isn't that far away anyway....just need to take her into the spray booth, and weather it and then hang some iron

Happy Belated Holidays All!

Sorry I have not posted in awhile. I have been busy on my 1/32 Tomcat as some of you know, although it doesnt count for our GB. I am considering extending the GB here to the end of December 08 and want to know what you guys think. I for one would like to get another MiG Killer done before we end it. I am also considering starting a new GB, "Mig Killers II GB", in Jan 08 and this time we will include foreign nations that have Mig kills also and same rules apply.

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks.

I would like to see this extended too since I just found this Group Build. I have a 1/72 scale F-4 Phantom MiG killer I'd like to submit to this. Plus, I may have another model I could do for the MiG Killers II Group Build too.

Thanks to all the time off for the holidays i am just about finished the F-4. Between yesterday and today I thought I was finished and went to put the fuel tanks on only to find that I have not sanded the seams or painted them yet. UUUGGGGGHHHH. So, sanding right now during the game and hope to paint tomorrow after my golf game. Will post photos soon.

I am up for an extention or for that matter a II Gb. I was looking for a marine Mig Killer, I have already built the only Marine F-4 kill but I think some other a/c had a kill in Korea and Nam. Since I am just about finished I will look for another subject. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I too have not posted for awhile, that 1/32 Thud is giving me such fit problems that I had to take a break or I would wind up tossing the kit into the trash. I got myself a Nikon D-40 so I can now post pics of the bird which I will do shortly.
