I had explained to ww2 on first page that the plane need not have the kill markings. You can add them or leave them off... its your choice. The point being is to build the way you want with no rules or restrictions other than your model be of an aircraft that has a Mig Kill.

Arrrgh.......

I made a promise not to buy anymore kits until I finished the ones in the stash, but I dont have any MiG killers in there.   ( A few Migs....no killers)

Count me in for a F-86F....probably the 1/48 Academy kit.  I have no idea on which specific aircraft to model, but I figure I'll have lots and lots  (and lots) of choices.

 Ok....Im off to Sprue Brothers........

(Wife is gonna kill me.)

Cool, I'm on it.  I'm lucky, this 1/32 Tamiya kit only cost me $2 worth of raffle tickets.  And it's a beautiful kit.

Death, Basicly this is a themed group build and the subject is about aircraft that shot down Mig's. You chose an F-15C as your MiG Killer, now before you start building it do some research on the F-15C and see if there were any that shot down MiG's in Operation Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom or over Afganistan, next see if you can find decals for that F-15C and then build the model as you normally would. Post your progress, ask for advice and help.

The A-1 Skyraider cannot be counted because it was a close support aircraft and I dont there was one that shot down a Mig. I could be wrong.

Death....sinceI was on the page looking up the A-1 kills, I figured I would copy down all the ODS victories.......F-15 or otherwise.

I kinda like the first one....the manuver kill credited to the EF-111   too bad it wasnt a MiG or I'd be tempted to build that one.

Thats a kill with style baybe!

Ok Rattler, Do you want to change your build to a A-1 Skyraider? If so let me know so I can mark down the change. If you still also want to build that F-15C that is perfectly cool with me.

Let me know what you decide.

Thanks Cj for that great site, lots of great interesting info. It does show that there were two confirmed Marine Mig kills. Regretfully none in a F-8 that I can find. One was a VMFA-333 F-4J but I already have four of them built as it was my old squadron. The other one was a Marine pilot in a USAF F-4, wonder what that was all about?. So, I guess I will save the F-8 for my Marine collection and I will enter with an F-4 since I have about six of them in the stash. Can never have enough F-4's.

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] Yup! I'm with Steve on this. Every new skill and technique I know I learned from people here, from scribing to weathering. Group Builds are great to be a part of because you will learn things you didn't know you could do and be a better modeler for it.

I couldn't resist the temptation to open the kit and check it out.  The previous owner did touch some of the kit parts, but only the ejection seats.  The kit seats are already assembled and primed, plus a pair of resin ejection seats are in the box already assembled and primed.

A triple inventory of the box hasn't reveiled any missing parts.  The instruction book is 20 pages long, and there are alot of metal screws for a PLASTIC model kit.  The fuselage section is BIG, about 18 inches long without the nose and tail.  This thing may end up being 20 or 21 inches long.  I haven't started this monster yet, but I'm really looking forward to it.

Maybe I'll go up to the AirForce museum in Dayton on Wednesday to check out the real thing.

Speaking of learning new techniques, I'm gonna go for the bare metal foil on my F-86 when it arrives.

Never done this, so it may end up a  sticky mess.  However, I have never been impressed with photos of Alclad built models so this is my only option......

Now Im just trying to decide if I want to add a resin cockpit.

Ridle, The Tamiya 1/32 F-15E is pretty much the same.. has screws for securing parts and the metal landing gear. I have the Strike Eagle in my stash and picked it up at a garage sale still brand new unopened for $15.00.Big Smile [:D] Thats practicly stealing it,Evil [}:)] hehehe.

I suggest you go with the resin seats but add the ejection hoses from the box set to it. I am using a Legend F-4J resin set in my Phantom. (see picture) Ejection hoses on top on seat is from the box. Paint seat accordingly and add the hoses last with a bit of super glue.

Cj, I would look into Photo Etch set before you consider a resin set. Having worked with both resin and PE I feel PE is alot easier to work with. Below is a pic of my F-8E, this gunfighter was published in an article I submitted to ARC and I used an Eduard F-8 PE set for the cockpit detail.

Sweet-looking 'pit there, Rand!! Thumbs Up [tup] ...and great work on the Crusader!

$15 for that 1/32 F-15?! That's about as good a deal as it can get. Nicely done!

Well, so far we have 7, Rand, and even if we don't make it to 10, I say we should not pull the plug on this GB. Seems as though there are a lot already committed to other GB's, and 7 is really not such a bad number. I have 7 signed up for my Lockheed GB and I'm ecstatic! Big Smile [:D] I think this GB will draw plenty in the amount of interest and late arrivals. Thumbs Up [tup]

Hey Rand

Put me down for an 1/48 F-4E ProModeler.  I've got some Two-Bobs decals that has an F-4E that got a probable.  Would that work, or does it have to be confirmed?

Also, would WWII German Eastern Front stuff count?

Mike,

Make that 8 people participating, hwells just joined us. Welcome Aboard Henry! Your right, we do have enough people participating to go ahead with the July 15th start. OH YEAH!Bow [bow]. We will still welcome late comers joining. I am excited myself about this GB since its the first one I've hosted. I can only hope I will be a gracious host and try to help everyone as much as possible.

Henry,

Cj might be able to dig up any F-4E Mig kills. I am sure there were many in later part of Vietnam. I cant find how he looked them up but I am sure as soon as he see's this he will get you some info. WWII German Mig kills wont count on this GB, its American fighters and attack aircraft from the Korean War to present that bagged a MiG or two or more.

Guess I missed or forgot the parameters listed on the first post.  I'm probably going to do mine pretty much out of the box.  I do have a buttload of aftermarket stuff for a F-4E, but I want to get one built without anything special first before I go whole hog on one.  I may switch out the ejection seats for some resins though.
