Fyuri - first off, you don't HAVE to pre-shade the panel lines. If you're capable enough with an airbrush, doing that makes it so your individual panels have a bit of "depth", but it's not a necessary step. If you're a priming kind of guy, do that first, then the pre-shade. After that just fire away with your base coat! Some (most?) people hit their a/c with a layer of Future before decaling, usually with another layer after decaling, and then a dullcoat as the final step.

Alllllrighty. Just realized that I neglected to post the base coat pic from Tuesday evening...you'll have to live with the splinterized photo from Wednesday. Wink [;)]

Tonight I'm going to shoot a layer of future in hopes that it will help defend the lower layers a bit against the rubbing that will occur after the hairspray/whitewash combo. Any other suggestions as to how I might keep everything together using the hairspray method?

Thanks for the info dupes. Sorry to cut off your question with another one of my stupid ones, every one of my photos turn out really blurred. Is there a camera setting that I must be missing? Thanks!

Are you using a tri-pod?  That is essential when taking photos in low light or with longer exposure times.

Also, make sure your focus point isn't somewhere behind the object you're photographing.  That's one of the most common reasons for blurriness.  It can be fixed by setting the F-stop to the highest setting (usually 8 with average digitals).

Also, even cheapo Digi's have a Macro function. This will be a button that looks like a Magnifying glass.

The latest update:

Got a bunch of stuff done after the white coat, but that's all you get to see for now. Note to self - don't bother spending so much time on the underlying splinter camo next time. Taped Shut [XX]

Note to everyone else - SIX BUILD DAYS REMAINING! Shock [:O] Followed by picture posting day on Thursday, the 1st of May. I suppose one could call in sick on Thursday to get some last minute work done, but it isn't really recommended to wait until then. Wink [;)]

6 days?  Sigh [sigh]

I didn't get any work done last night other than snipping the individual track links from the sprues.  We've been having a cluster of earthquakes in our neck of the woods with the epicenters about 3 miles from our house.  There was a 4.1 and a 4.2 yesterday afternoon, caused a little damage at the house.... a few broken dishes and a bunch of stuff fell in my wife's closet.  My den only had a few things knocked over thank goodness.  There was another strong one in the middle of the night that woke my wife and I out of a dead sleep.  Shock [:O]

It must be fun to do PE during an earthquake Tongue [:P]

I did finish my StuG, just need to clean up my modeling room so the photo booth is accessible...which may take a few days. Do we have to have photos posted by the deadline?Big Smile [:D]

Here are some photos after I sprayed the light whitewash coat and did some paint chipping.

Up next is some more weathering, oil washes, dot method with white oilsand mist coat for blending so it will be a bit whiter when I'm all finished.  And of course I need to paint the springs, muffler, tools and PE leather straps.  I'm getting there slow and steady!

Wow!  Looking great Scott!  I love that faded white coat and it looks like all the preshading and highlighting is still visible!!  Looking forward to the finished build!!

Thanks Ernest.  Smile [:)]

I'm getting ready to head downstairs to finish up the tools and do the next layering of weathering.  I need to get crackin' on those track links!  They've all been snipped from the sprue and now need to be cleaned up with a sanding stick.

It's so beautiful outside, maybe I'll sit out on the deck while I sand 200+ very tiny links......  Whistling [:-^]

Scott - looks great! Hopefully you had a good weekend banging out those tracks...really looking forward to the finished product! Big Smile [:D]

I've been going nuts on my build, making good progress. Couple of minor decal setbacks, but we'll see if you guys notice or not. Heh. Wink [;)] Am now 100% certain I'll be done for "picture day" on Thursday. Thumbs Up [tup]

Well I was able to quickly snap some shots of my Strv.103B today but they're not of the best quality because it was cloudy today and they turned out quite dark, but since I can't get the camera again till next weekend and by then the GB will be over, this is the best I've got till then.

I was going to put some snow on it in places but It appears I won't have enough time. Anyway, that's my entry. So can I collect my badge now?

Well, I finally have some photos of my Pz IV Ausf G. Kharkov that still in process.  4 DAYS LEFT!!   Its getting there.....

Anyway I decided NOT to do an LAH version basically because I wanted to put the winterketten tracks on and I haven't seen any refs with the winterketten on LAH Mark IVs.  So I did a 19th Pz Div instead.  Plus the LAH tanks were pretty new in the field and I wanted do a more "used" winter scheme.  Here it is so far.  Most of the painting is done, still working on the tools and then have to do a wash or two and then some weathering and then those winterketten.  I'm not too happy with the way it turned out, but its a learning process and kinda practice for the next "Winter Warriors" GB!!

Hooooo, looking really good Bufflehead! Big Smile [:D] I agree that the whitewash looks better with a panzer grey base instead of the dunkelgelb...Wink [;)]

Townsy - snag your badge, sir! Came out really good, as far as I can tell. Since you're already done, feel free to post some more pics up next weekend if you're able to take some 'brighter' ones...love to be able to see some of the detail on there. Good stuff! Big Smile [:D]Thumbs Up [tup]

As for me, no pics until I'm DONE! Mischief [:-,]

Wow, Bufflehead, your Pz.IV looks sweeeet so far! great work on the paint job especially, the worn off whitewash look is very convincing.

Thanks!  Smile [:)]

The tools, leather straps, exhaust, springs etc. have been painted.  They'll be attached tomorrow, then I'll hit everything with a wash or two.  I'm still slogging away at the cleanup of the individual track links.  Haven't had enough time to finish them with all the earthquake problems we've been dealing with.  I'm going to have to finish up those links at lunch tomorrow so I can get them assembled and painted!  Shock [:O]

Bufflehead, your panzer IV is looking awesome!!!! The worn out whitwash looks great. How did you achieve the worn whitewash, sponge method using original base color or hairspray method? Either way it looks awesome!!!

Heh...I can't wait to see her finished either. Laugh [(-D] Going to spray a flat coat after work today to seal all the decals in. After dinner I'll do whatever else needs to be done (read - weathering), with a "review" day on Wednesday to see if I missed anything. Wink [;)]

Oh, as for SMJ, I talked to him yesterday morning. He's done with the actual move, but has been remodeling his basement - including new hobby area (!) - before going back to work full time. He mentioned going through serious forum withdrawal, and is QUITE eager to get back on ASAP!
