Winter Warriors GB 2008

UNIONIZING? Now waaaaaaaait just a minute...I believe when you all signed legally binding contracts to get into this GB that you were informed of the expected completion dates - ...what? There WERE no contracts? Who dropped the ball on that one? DUPES?

Townsy - no worries, it's going to be a week or two until I get to round up all of the photos and organize the GB "summary". Should be interesting though, I think even I've forgotten some of the good stuff that flew by.

Townsy - I think that next week I may actually get access to broadband for a little while - and what I was planning on doing is going back through the entire build and pull out a single pic of each finished build that everyone has done, and put it into one thread over in the armor forum. That way, in case there are people who aren't still involved in the build (anyone seen Biffa lately?), they're still represented, and we get a complete record of what everyone produced. If anyone has a "favorite" pic of their build they'd like to nominate, tell me now! If you can let me know what page of the GB and a pic number, that would be best. Otherwise I'll use my discretion to find the best one.

MG42 - I'll tell you the same thing I told Bob...if your build is far enough along by the end date (tomorrow!) that it could be construed as "finished" then you would certainly be eligible for the GB badge...if you were to add "additional" weathering after the finish date, that's entirely up to you. Past that, I'm going to have to say no to any extensions. If you're willing to throw it on the shelf for a while, I would certainly allow it to be entered in Winter Warriors 2 in a few months. Any chance you have some current photos?

Scott - can't wait for your morning pics!

Stuka update - I think all I have left to do tonight (besides pics!) is some exhaust staining...thinking of trying to put a drop or two of Tamiya "smoke" near the pipes, then blow it back with my AB - anyone ever tried this? Just trying to come up with something other than pastels.

Here is the Pz.Kpfw.38(t) Ausf. F ready for the washes.  I'm about 2/3 of the way cleaning up the track links.  It's been a quiet evening so far, no major earthquake activity to report since this morning.

I've got a Dragon Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf. G that's just itching to be built!

Tonight I'm attaching the tools and am going to apply an oil wash.  I brought my track links to work today so hopefully I can finish the cleanup during lunch and get them assembled tonight.  I need to get some paint on them ASAP and a little weathering.  I'm not sure I'll be done by close of business on the 1st, but hopefully I'll far enough along to have earned a badge. 

Hmmmm...is that some sort of challenge?

I've actually considered doing a Panzer IV GB...so much stuff based on that chassis, it's amazing! Was considering allowing anything that has the base set up, but if there's enough interest for just the actual "tanks"...

Panzer88, I used the sponge chipping method over the white wash.  I still need to tweak the look a little.  Got home late yesterday from an out of town training session so I'll resume tonight with a vengeance!

dupes, glad to hear that SMJ's concentrating on his hobby area...I wish I had one of those!!  BTW, wing_nut picked up a new Dragon Pz IV F1, Manny's thinking of doing a Dragon Pz IV F2.  Maybe you and I could go head to head with them with our Tristar Pz IVs??  Just a thought!!

Heh...I can't wait to see her finished either. Going to spray a flat coat after work today to seal all the decals in. After dinner I'll do whatever else needs to be done (read - weathering), with a "review" day on Wednesday to see if I missed anything.

Oh, as for SMJ, I talked to him yesterday morning. He's done with the actual move, but has been remodeling his basement - including new hobby area (!) - before going back to work full time. He mentioned going through serious forum withdrawal, and is QUITE eager to get back on ASAP!

The tools, leather straps, exhaust, springs etc. have been painted.  They'll be attached tomorrow, then I'll hit everything with a wash or two.  I'm still slogging away at the cleanup of the individual track links.  Haven't had enough time to finish them with all the earthquake problems we've been dealing with.  I'm going to have to finish up those links at lunch tomorrow so I can get them assembled and painted! 

Wow, Bufflehead, your Pz.IV looks sweeeet so far! great work on the paint job especially, the worn off whitewash look is very convincing.

Hooooo, looking really good Bufflehead! I agree that the whitewash looks better with a panzer grey base instead of the dunkelgelb...

Townsy - snag your badge, sir! Came out really good, as far as I can tell. Since you're already done, feel free to post some more pics up next weekend if you're able to take some 'brighter' ones...love to be able to see some of the detail on there. Good stuff!

Well, I finally have some photos of my Pz IV Ausf G. Kharkov that still in process.  4 DAYS LEFT!!   Its getting there.....

Anyway I decided NOT to do an LAH version basically because I wanted to put the winterketten tracks on and I haven't seen any refs with the winterketten on LAH Mark IVs.  So I did a 19th Pz Div instead.  Plus the LAH tanks were pretty new in the field and I wanted do a more "used" winter scheme.  Here it is so far.  Most of the painting is done, still working on the tools and then have to do a wash or two and then some weathering and then those winterketten.  I'm not too happy with the way it turned out, but its a learning process and kinda practice for the next "Winter Warriors" GB!!
