Hey no problem. Just went and dug it out to give it a look see. I will probably go straight outta the box including the decals. The only thing I have read on it so far that is inaccurate would be the loop antenna and mount is actually for a later version than what is represented by the box art. The devil pooping a bomb is kinda cool. I can't imagine being in one of those having a Hurricane or Spit on your tail. Reckon it would be like getting run over by a steam roller feet first. Ok researching away until 1 July. If anyone has any details or interesting facts please send them my way. Thanks. Wow I'm having fun already.Big Smile [:D]

You got me down correctly Darren. I am clearing up my schedule and finishing everything up this month so I will be ready to jump right in on July 1! This is going to be a great group build. i can't wait. Plus a nice three day weekend to start the month should get this build of to a great start.

Darren, still undecided on build yet.

Probably German as I've only built one Luftwaffe AC so far this year!

Slipping I know.Shock [:O]

To be honest I don't have a mixing ratio for the buff, I just put a small dllop of paint in the paint cup, and add thinners until it looks like dirty water.

If you spray it on a piece of white paper it should be barely visible on the first pass.

Darren, with all the 109's flying around this build I figure I better help Jon out and do a 1/48 Tamyia Spit.

Thanks SC, you are TOO kind! Big Smile [:D]

I've been waiting for this for a while, can't wait to sink my teeth into another Tamiya Bf-109E, has to be at or very near the top for my favorite model to build. Thumbs Up [tup]

Darren...   I think I'll do a small scale build for a change of pace.  See if my tired old eyes can still handle a Tamiya 1/72 Bf-109E-3 Smile [:)].

Karl thanks for the info.  I know that Greg (gzt) used a similar approach on his desert Spitfire recently and it turned out wonderfully as well.

Thad no problems you are down for a Spit.

Rick I've put you down for a 72nd scale 109 which I'm sure will be up to your usual high standards.

You and me both Mike.  I get the feeling that there are quite a few of us hanging out to get this one underway.

Alright lads I've been doing a bit of work on the badges for this GB and have come up with these

Use them as you wish but I'll be going for the Spitfire badge myself even though I’m building a German aircraft as I think it looks hot.

Cheers

Both look great, but I agree that the Spit does look pretty cool.

Ok guys I've updated the roster with builds and put it up on page 1.  Could you all have a look to see if your details are correct and then post the appropriate insult feedback here if I've buggered anything up.

Karl you are on the roster but I couldn't find a post with what you're building, are you still deciding?  By the way that is an outstanding looking Spit on the previous page, I really must try the diffusion method as the results look excellent.  Can you tell me what ratio thinners to Buff you used for the misting coat(s)?

TB379 I've put you on with a Bf 109E-3 at the moment, if you change your mind at any stage just let me know.

Tom I don't have you on the roster at the moment, are you looking to join in with an He 111?

I went out for a rather large dinner and drinks last night so I didn't get a chance to play with badges so I'll have a look tonight.

Cheers

Actually, Darson, in doing my recent photo session, I was able to review my "stash", and in fact I found a 1/48th Hobby Craft Dorneir Do-17Z I had forgotten about.

The He-111 I was thinking of is a Monogram kit, and it is a lot more involved, so I figured for the less tedeous Do-17 at this time, if that would be OK with you.

Tom, watch out for that Hobbycraft Dornier as is has a bad reputation, particularly with regard the fit of the fuselage and the clear components.

Tom if you check out Swanny's web site under Axis I believe he has an in depth article about correcting the horendous flaws of this kit mainly the fuselage that is shapped like a banana. He goes into detail in how to correct this nasty defect. Of course this only deals with fixing that one major kit defect. The rest of the kit is pretty much junk also. You might want to reconsider that He 111. I would hate to see you get frustrated with this horrible kit and not enjoy this great group build.

I think the bad rep of the Hobby Craft Do-17 may be worse than it's bite. I have heard it called the flying Bananna. The windows are a bit thick and not perfectly clear and the fuselage has a long tricky seam. The cock pit is pretty bare but when it was the only thing going I did a few and it builds into a pretty nice looking bomber. I'll be doing the Classic Airframes Do-17 Z which is a much newer release and has a much heftier price tag.  When comparing them in the box it is like comparing a Pinto to a Cadilac, especially in the interior details but you can get  3 Hobby Craft for the price of one CA and I think the Hobby Craft one does not look bad at all when finished. Especially by the caliper of modelers I have seen here.

Guys thanks for the feedback on the badges and I'm glad you like them because they took about an hour each in Photoshop last night editing the images and removing background material.

Tom, no worries I'll put you down for the Hobbycraft Do 17z and good luck with all that glass work you'll have to mask (shudder).  I'm sure everyone here will be interested in watching this one progress.

Andrew, ok I got you on the list.  I'll be looking forward to see how the Fujimi Bf 110 stacks up against the Eduard offering that I am building.

Aaron no problems with using the badge at all.  I like it when everybody who is participating in the GB to uses the badge in their sig, its great advertising for the build and it's also a fun way to show you're joining in.

Cheers

Hi Darson,

Thanks for having me aboard, my build is correctly listed on page 1 and I've downloaded the badges in preparation for getting started. They're both very good, it makes me want to build a model for each side to justify using both!

If I can get my Tiger finished for Big Cats in the next couple of weeks, I may have time to finish my Merkava for IDF as well, and have an appreciably clear workbench, timewise, by July 1st -- that may be wishful thinking, but I'm thinking an earlier start than a later one is on the cards.

I'd better dig out that Emil!

Cheers,

TB379

Darren, put me down for a Hurricane.

I'll be patriotic and go for the Airfix kit.

Now to work out which ace's mount I'll build.
