Believe it or not, I haven't really touched my build since my last update.Shock [:O] Sooooo.....I don't have any pics to post. I did however get quite a bit of work done today,(drilled out the plate where the piston rods will go thru, found a shaft for the propeller, found some metal to use for support rods, and I started making the special attachment ends for where the piston rods turn the propeller shaft.) All in all not a bad day's work, thus I should have an update sometime later this week.Smile [:)]

Hi Spiralcity

Mind if I joined this GB with a 1/72 CMR Seafang? I'm sorta co-building it with a 1/72 Hawker Tempest V, so I'd like to get it done in a week or two. I've just finished the cockpit detailing and I'm about to get to the "big stuff"

Thanks Spiral.

So I've been working on the Seafang for the last week and its slowly coming together. A few days ago I finished the cockpit and widened the aperture for the side mounted camera.

Then I continued with the fuselage construction last night. Since the CMR kit is resin I pinned most of the major assemblies on; the wings and the horizontal stabs. Unfortunately this being one of CMR's first kits its fit isn't the best and its going to be a long few days of gap filling for me. I'll also need to build some detail into the gear bay, which is completely spartan.

No I didn't forget about this build, I just haven't had the time to work on it(I'll blame it my terrible time management and recent schedule changes.) Thus that's why it's been more then a month since my last update. But alas, here is a small update!Big Smile [:D]

I started work on getting together more parts for the engine and propeller. I did find a lego piece that's just about perfect for the propeller shaft and I also started work on preparing the pieces for the piston rods. One of these pieces is the plate that goes on top of the boiler,(where the rods stick out of.) For this piece I used the radiator armor piece from my Zvezda M-3 Scout car kit. After preparing the piece, I measured where the six rods will go(making sure they all were evenly spaced apart.) Then I simply drilled out the holes. Note: I still have to make the rods, out of stretched sprue.

I also finished the top of the piston rods where the rod will attach to one side and where the propeller shaft will go through the openings. For this I went back to drilling out some "pancake" cut pieces of sprue. Then I attached a small piece of sprue and sanded it down so the sides were angled. That's how I got the tear-drop shapes of the pieces. Then I simply threw on alot(and I mean alotWink [;)]) of putty to fill in imperfections.

Next work should move to making the piston rods, that way I can get the plate attached to the boiler. Thanks for looking!Smile [:)]

Thats some pretty hefty scratchbuilding there MG, I wish I had those mad skillz while fiddling with my Seafang. Its coming along okay, a few hiccups here and there. Like with others, it seems to be eating its way through the putty like no tomorrow. The Radiators seem not to fit at all, so I've been injecting to fill the gap. Finally I got it looking fairly respectable. I fixed up the undercarriage to the extent that I think the resin should be able to hold the weight... I hope. I also scratchbuilt the wheel wells using photos from a supermarine attacker.

I tried using a tamiya rattlecan primer to do the overcoat but it tended to pool a little to much for my liking. So then I tried an older tin of Humbrol enamel. Well it got a couple of sticky spots so I had to sand it down and repaint with quick coats of the Tamiya. And thats where we are today with these photos.

spiralcity- Thanks for checkin' out the build!

-Neu- Thanks for the comments, but you've got some serious skills yourself to make that kit look good.Thumbs Up [tup] Considering all the problematic areas that seem to be arising on your plane.

Well Mg, to be honest this model has been the bane of my existence for the past few weeks; nothing has gone right. I've rebuilt the canopy because the first time it sat canted back too far. I've broken the propeller too many times to count (I've learned my lesson- that goes on last.) Despite having success with other models this time future has been giving me problems; orange peel is back with a vengeance and the coat just looks thick in places... as you can see in the photos below. The decals on the underside numbering didn't want to lay flat; I hit it so many times with the Microsol that I discolored the paint (and I still had kinks in it.) I'll try to cover it up with some weathering. Hopefully I can fix the rest of these issues by the top coat.

From the pics, I don't see any problems(but that might mean your simply good at hiding them.Wink [;)]) Glad to see your not letting the nightmarish problems of this kit stop you from completing it.Thumbs Up [tup] Thus I can't wait to see it all finished up.

Finally the B***** is dead. Thats how I feel about this model, its been a serious pain for me like no other model has been. I made ALOT of mistakes, I've broken all of the props by the end... and repainted parts of it more than once after a mistake I made (like when I accidently overdid the exhaust shading on one side, requiring me to strip it down a bit, repaint it, gloss it and then try again.) Its been a trying experience, one that I'm happy to be done of. The only good thing is that I learned quite a bit from this model, which I can use for some of my more prized CMR kits.

Glad to hear you conquered the beast, -Neu-! It looks great, thus gotta give you major kudos for sticking with the kit and turning it from c*** parts into an actual aircraft.Bow [bow] However one question...isn't it a bit too glossy?

Well the instructions say the aircraft was glossy... and close up of other FAA aircraft during this period seem to suggest they were somewhat glossy as well. Maybe I should matt it a slight bit next time.

 Hi Neu,

You have a lot of patience.

I tend to put things on the shelf if I have too many problems.

I havent researched this aircraft so I will not comment on the gloss finish, in any case it's good to see you stuck with it... Smile [:)]

Hey spiralcity, can I get an extension on my scratch build? Yeah, I know I haven't been getting any updates posted recently(lot of work and studies outside of modeling) but I hope to get some major work done soon. So.....can I get an extension?

Sure, this group can stay open as long as we have people building.

I need more time myself.

Great, because I think I may be getting some major work done in the coming weeks.....barring any unforseen events/work.

Well, if anyone is still checking in on this GB, let it be known the group is still open. I just had some bench times and worked on my Shark. I hope to get -er- done soon. Toast

I'm still here.......unforunately I haven't really gotten much work done on my build. Mainly because I can't find the time to get a really good work session in. I have two other builds on the bench(one almost done) and the other I just started off on. Though it's not these kits that are eating into my time, it's the fact that spring semester just started so my workbench time was cut by half(basically only have time to work on weekends, that is if I'm lucky.) Argh!Bang Head Oh well, I'm still slooooowly working on my multiplane......just don't expect an update really soon.Boo Hoo

I'm glad your still here. It looks like it's just the two of us....

I have had some bench time and I am nearing the primer stage on my shark. Im getting close. This kit has been a nightmare at every turn, I tend to get discouraged with it after each bench sitting.

Well I'll be looking forward to some progress pics, spiralcity. Look at it this way, at least your on the primer stage, I'm still stuck on the engine doing measurements based off of 100 year old facts and images.Dunce

I'll get some pics up when I get it primed. I still have to fit the wings to the fuslage and reetch some body lines I sanded away. After that it shoud be butter.

I own 6 Czech kits... Sad   If I only knew... GEEEZ!

Here is my latest update...

Wing fit was very poor, I had to do a lot of sanding and reshaping.

Here are a few progress pics:

Well. it's been a long time since anyone has logged in here. This GB build can go on for as long as needed. My Dark Shark still sits where I left off in my last post. I have been busy trying to reorganize my personal life with a job lay-off and all. I really havent had any time for fun. Sad
