I think that it is a great idea to interact and perhaps get to know some of the other forum members. This looks to be an interesting build to say the least.

I been watching this one but this is my look at the Tank guys side. I'll ask for help now. I have never built a tank before, never seen the inside of a tank kit box. What is the hardest, most aggrevating Panzer kit I can get my hands on?

Jeeves, since you have been involved in this thread would you like to be in charge of the a/c forum guys? I will need some help on this.

I am with frosty on this one...things might get a bit hairy...that's not to say I don't enjoy a little rivalry...but if none of us have built tanks before, how will anyone know how to solve a tough situation? I will help anyone on the plane side of things... and yes Awasoda- I'd be honored to help out...I am not as qualified as Pix or Swanny, but I guess I've built enough to at least provide help to anyone who needs it...

What if we expand the build to include every forum? What I have in mind is build something but paint it like something else. Car painted like a plane, ship in german camo, tank like a hot rod.

I kinda like rule 5. no help from the other side, gives it more of a challenge.
Also, I need a kit, WWII.. Ne good ones? and that are under $30. and 1/72 or 1/48

I'm in though. Sounds like fun and a chance to contact some others.

As far as rivalries go, how 'bout a paratrooper from the 82nd saying to his buddy in bar in England in front of some guys from the 101st. "What's the eagles screaming about?" reply, "Help! Help! Help!".
Rivalries are just plain fun...

a suggestion. as this build is to be a form of bringing a respect for building things we would not normally build, build a moderaltely challenging kit with a moderately challenging scheme. maybe a 109 with a moderate scheme or a tricolor usn ww2 bird. either will turn out great. as for the company that would depend upon your stash.

armor folks have a great basis for german a/c. the camos would be no problem for people who build so much with such complicated schemes. but like you said you make the choice. seeing the fantastic builds though i cant help but hope for a darkside member to build a difficult kit just for the experience.

snorkel version is 'wading trunk' Sherman...
it has the 2 large rectangular thingies that look
like HVAC ducts on rear deck...
'Duplex Drive' Sherman has what looks like canvas tent material
all around it in a collapsible metal framework....
wading trunk version served in ETO (D-Day landings) & PTO...

not sure any Duplex Drive Shermies in PTO, but u know who can answer that one...Big Smile [:D]

Thanks for the reply, Joe. As far as wingy thingies go, I've always been partial to WWI, WWII and some of the exotics (like x-planes and spy-craft). However I also really would like to build up a same scale set of Century planes. I have a pretty sizable collection of unbuilt wingies I've aquired over the years. Most of what I have is 1/48 and 1/72. (I have an Aurora C-141 too, but I won't be building that one!!)
My big concern for this build is, do I want to do something I can build "quick and dirty" that isn't worth spending the time and money to fix up, or something like a Hasagewa Me 109 and really do it up right! One thing I'm not considering is anything with an nmf! I just am not that good on that fuse seam!
Anyway, probably no one can help me decide except myself, but thanks. (I will listen to any and all suggestions!)

wipw what kind of a/c are you interested in? modern, ww2, or other. what do you want a simple paint scheme or a complicated one (knowing that if you pic german a/c the camos are pretty similar to armor camos). there are many choices from a very simple tamiya kit with a simple od over neutral gray to a me 109 with a complicated tricolor camo scheme.

larry the rivalry is in pure fun. if one goes a bit overboard then they are politely informed of such. i am just beginning to understand the ins and outs of armor. i have a great respect for all the darkside. the builds are outstanding. and many of its members i call friends.(see good friends thread) i honestly believe the rivalry is one of the reasons i began to look at armor as an option to build.

I am in, and hope to do a Revell 1/32 Fiesler Storch. If I can't afford it, something 1/72 and ww2. I am in the Stug Build, but I usually do a few things at once.

The rivalry is great, and definitely friendly. I sneak in and look at the planes all the time.
I am just better at armour than I am at aircraft, or ships, or spacemen or dinosaurs. I like looking at all of them. For me it is jus that Australian thing of being nasty(in jest) to people you like, and not talking to those you don't!

I like the rules, except for the help thing, as most of us would have ventured across the modelling divide before, I think help should be able to come from anywhere.

Yeh this would be something to see, I join in on this but who is going to keep an eye on the 'Wingy Thingy's' as you Armour guy's call us aircraft modeller's. I have a few ground pounders that I could put together. A question with the AFV's are thet restricted to any era and Country. Reason I ask I have a couple of resin conversions to do Aussie AFV's.

Yeah Larry, I concur that their is a friendly rivalry going. I think we each respect the other forums and the work that they do. After all, many of the members build more than one topic and the interest is in many more. I think that this build is a great idea to get that kid in us to try something that they maybe wanted to do, but needed that proverbial kick in the Censored [censored] to get started. It also makes a nice change of pace.

Ooops, sorry. Yes, the snorkels were different than the DD's. I thought you meant that Big Smile [:D] ooops!

Larry- It's kinda like cross county high school football teams, minus the use of a ball and tackling..... that part doesn't fit in well with models Big Smile [:D].

Hey Scubaboy,
Does the history channel (I don't get cable) mention that the 70th Tank Battalion landed all but three of their DD's? None of them sank in the surf, but three went down with a landing craft when it hit a mine.

Ron

No, I don't think so. The show mostly focused on Omaha (if that was Omaha, they were wrong because they said only 2 tanks got to shore). They were basically answering "why didn't the tanks get to shore on Omaha, when the did at every other beach?". They went scuba diving (Cool [8D]) in France and found a tank that sunk, but they didn't go into too much detail about the units involved and ones that were destroyed by what, they were just interested in the ones that sunk.

I think of this as a friendly rivalry.... and if I can do as good a job on a tank as those who do it all the time- then bully for me Wink [;)] At the same time-- if you guys can do as well or better on a plane than I can- then good on ya!

Larry, I think you're reading way too much into this. I feel it's a very friendly rivalry. Kind of a "my stick's bigger than your stick" kind of thing. I certainly hope no one seriously thinks less (or more) of anyone solely because of the kind of modeling they do. If someone has the interest, resources and time to model in all the different venues, I honor them for it! I mean, diversity in hobbies is what this country is founded upon. Mom, apple pie, and choice of kits! How can any of us believe for one minute that the cause of freedom is being threatened by ones choice of kit! Freedom of choice in models has become the beacon to which the opressed and down trodden peoples of the earth have turned their gaze with the sure knowledge that there is a better life for them. We should all strive to insure that free choice in modeling is given to all those seeking and willing to accept it. The word must go forth. This is our mission. I call for all modelers in good standing to join in this cause. The modeling oppressed of the world must be set free!
Thank you.
Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]

Sorry. Couldn't resist!! lol

Oh, count me in. I'm sure I can find something in my wingy thingy stash to finally get started. Any help in chosing an appropriate model is appreciated.

I don't understand the rivalry between the plane modelers and the armor modelers. I build more armour than aircraft, but I build both, and ships and wargames pieces and animals (mostly resin garage kits) and movie monsters and anything else that strikes my fancy.

Could someone explain it to me, in fifty words or less? Is it the eternal need of hobbyists to have rivals in the hobby? Man's inhumanity to man? El Nino?

Not that it matters, since you are not doing one, but it is a DD tank (Duplex Drive). Alot of shows about them on Discovery and History Channels lately.
