Hah now thats good stuff. BUT I KNOW THIS ALREADY!!!! LOL.

Just remember to keep that popsickle stick away from a Tiger.......It will bit you.
One other thing ......tracks will CRUSH wheels anyday.

Hello heavy rolly polly builders . Just checking in with ya. I read a bit about the fuselage seam (thats the place where the cockpit and gas goes, most of the time anyways) and the wingroot I believe (where the wings hook on). Heres a little advice for ya, free of charge...so far. Put masking tape on either side of the offending seam, just a tad wider then the seam. Now find something you can trowl with, I use a popsickle stick cut with scissors and trowl in the filler. If it is Squadron white putty take a q-tip with nail-polish remover, the aceton kind and smoth the fresh putty in the seam. remove the tape (because you cant sand the masking tape) and when the putty is dry sand it to perfection, because a plane, any plane deserves nothing less then perfection .
Remember tank tracks are no substitute for REAL wheels.

Bill, there was a thread many moons ago with some footage and sound of a Kingtiger. I believe there is one running and in France. It was pretty cool. Maybe Jon knows of it or even provided the link. Jon, where are you?

I'll tell ya what Frosty....I'll make you a deal. You pick out a 1/35 Tamiya tank intermediate type of a build, and I will get it....BUT, you have to build a 1/48 plane. 1/72 just ain't enough plane for anyone....they look like little hotwheels.

The reason I picked up the Amphib was because it looked unique....and I already had it in my stash. Unfortunately, I'm not trained in tanks, and I get confused with the differences.....I know that's a horrible thing to say, but it's true.

Also Tamiya has a few Japanese fighters in 1/48 for around $12.00-$15.00 that are perfect to try out that salt weathering technique. AND if you find a decent Bronco, I have a photo file on my computer of personal pics of a CDF (California Department of Forestry) Bronco that I was working on at the time....and I'm sure it wouldn't be too big of a deal to grab ya some specialized pics of certain details you may need to help ya along your build.

You pick the tank that will be a challenge, but not make me hate you, I'll buy it right now. And I'll help ya with your project so that you don't hate me!!! LOL

I've never heard a King roar, or purr or even cough, for that matter. But I'm open to letting you prove it to me. Understand, this in no way means I'd put a wingy thingy higher on my build list. I really like building all of them, but armor still wins out in the end for me.

as 4 me, i'm having trouble deciding what 2 build 4 this one,

Looks like something else to motivate me, I'll be building a Ju-87-G1 "Tank Buster" by Academy. I need it for my 1/72 wargame army and it dovetails nicely with projected dates.

I just hope my LHS can get the model, I don't mind ordering online, but like to shop local when possible.

A few years back my wife gave me an Accurate MIniatures SBD for Christmas after seeing my reaction to the real thing at the beach. Never even thought about building it. Truthfully, I don't even know where it is. [:0]. Shhhhhhhhhh! And I love the plane.
But when I came across a 1/72 Dragon RC Tiger I while buying some trains for my kids, well............ here I am . About 12 unbuilt models (some planes) and 15 books (all Armor) later, for better or worse. It's a disease.

Not to take anything away from planes, they are cool, I admit.

hey guys do you think this would count for my backwards groupbuild project? being a winged thing fanatic, I haven't the slightest if this would compare..... It is a Tamiya 1/35 Ford G.P.A. Amphib.....please let me know if this qualifies or if I need to pick something else out....thanks!!!

No links, sorry. I did a search on Dauntless 1/72 on Great Models. But when you click on them, the page doesn't give you any address but the GM home page. Sorry. You'll have to go look for yourself!

Hasegawa's airplane kits (1/72 or 1/48) are phenominal! Very close to the quality of Tamiya. Some kits are arguably better than the corresponding Tamiya kit.

I've usually found the smaller Testor's kits to be marginal. Probably on par with the older Airfix stuff.

I had heard somewhere that Testors kits were pretty bad, is there truth to this?

Oh, by the way...Testors and Hasagewa both make 1/72 SBD's. One of Hasagewa's is even for Operation Torch!! Oh, and there are LOTS of am parts for them by Eduard, Parts, and even a Kendal resin upgrade set!!

I'm heading back down to Delaware this August. I'll check if they still do have one around, maybe pay for a ride If it's semi-resonable.

Found out last night that they are having a 2 day air show here this weekend. The "Rain Chickens" (that's the Thunderbirds for you uninitiated!!) will be there, too. They were practicing yesterday and I didn't even know it!

I wasn't going to go "brave" the crowds, but might have to change my mind. There MIGHT be a Dauntless there. I doubt it, but who knows!

I have yet to see even a static display of one, much less one flying The sad thing is, before I was into them (and all WWII warbirds), I spent some time working at NAS Miramar (when it was still NAS Miramar)- and I am pretty sure they had some old Navy aircraft on display there...what a dummy I was...I think there are only a few left in the country- but none around here. Downstate, there is a nice Avenger at the National Warplane Museum in Elmira, but no Dauntless.

I only knew the SBD as the hero the war-turning Midway, There wasn't much research in my modeling at 10.
I wasn't aware of their use in Torch. If they make one in 1/72 I'm sunk. Or if any SBD is made in 1/72 I'll have to convert.....yipe, I'm done for.

By the way, two or three years ago while on vacation at the Delaware shore, hanging out on the beach, I look up to see what the new advert is being pulled through the sky and there it is, about a hundred feet up over the water, a Dauntless. It passed a few times that day, amazing. There must be one of those pay throught the nose, ride of a lifetime things. My wife must have sensed my excitement over it, because she suggested going for it, make it an early Christmas gift. Never looked into it.
