QUOTE: thanks for the heads up and the advice bill. greatly appreciated.

Glad to help, Joe. The experts at this stuff (of which I am most certainly NOT one) use either metal or resin for etching (maybe embossing is more accurate) the pattern. I've seen where for Milliput and ApoxiSculpt they shaved down a piece of left over resin cast plug to the size needed, chucked in a handle of some sort, and used that (dampened in water) to press the pattern in. And very effectively, too!

Boy, Chris. Not your best effort! LOL But isn't it great to see how much you've grown in the hobby?? (Both in skills and in choice of subject!! LOL) Okay, okay, by now I'm sure you know I have an affinity for wingy thingies that ALMOST meets the one I have for Armor. I've certainly got a lot more A/C than I do tred kits! (probably over 3 times as many, in fact!) I think you ought to post your pics without the history and see what comments you come up with! lol

Ok guys, here is the first shot at a plane in 20 years or so when I was about 8 or 9. You can see where the crappy decals got the best of me and I have to repaint. Other than that just a quick 2 hours or so invested in it so I can get it hung up on my boy's ceiling so they will be happy. I'll throw it over in the ac forum as well just to get some tips on some things I might be able to do on the Dauntless.

Ron, sounds interesting. Why don't you drop me an e-mail and we'll discuss it. I've always liked the 24. I wish Accurate Minatures would come out with a nice one!

Also, I posted in the A/C forum, but forgot to here. Your Spits and the Jug look terrific. Great work on the camo. Thanks for sharing your pics.

Be careful with this, Joe. I'm afraid the putty will stick to the plastic comb and get all gummed up. I think you'd wind up pulling all the putty off in big troughs.

Make sure when you put the putty on to keep it really thin (in depth, not consistency). Sometimes I would scrap a little off my "pallet" onto my scribe tool and trowel it on with that, holding the tool at a shallow angle so that the putty would get applied and scribed at the same time. Then I'd go back and put the verticle marks in the putty.

Good luck.

Well, it looks like I will have to join the fun. I've always wanted to build a tank. I started building one once but got discouraged when my brother sat on it and completely desytroyed it.Grumpy [|(]Censored [censored]Sad [:(] So its been all wingy things since then.

Don't know what I'll build, but I'll have a look at some kits and see what looks interesting and isn't to expensive. I will probably require lots of help from the folks in armor land.

I am ready for the embarassment of ruining a kit. It won't be the first time either.Sigh [sigh]

I'll be back with some details of what I'm building later.

Woodbeck,
If you're set on the grey, you have to go with an early production Tiger I. They started sending them out of the factory in Dunkelgelb (that's dark yellow to a flyboy) soon after and that was the base for all the camo patterns.
You'll find plenty of early kits, Tamiya makes a real nice one. You also escape the Zimmerit dilemma with an early.

Ooo that reminds me...before I get my tiger, are the different tiger, during different years in different colors. I seen those Tigers that are in thet gray color...looks sweet. What would be a good guilde line for the different tigers, in different years to there paint and camo colors.

Watch out the fly boys and gals are coming !!!!

i took a very good look at the king tiger last night, took it to work, very nice kit. although there is no interior to speak of. i guess that means i have it closed. as far as the zimmerit i think i am going to give it a shot. i think using squadron green and a comb, the ones that come from like barbie doll kits, would work. i am going to wait however until i get the right paints to begin this beast.

Chris, I survived. Go ahead and post over there. You might even find a few people you recognize!!

I'll wait to see the outcome of your visit before I post my Me109 if I do, I'll let you be the guinie pig. Big Smile [:D]

July sounds good to me. Gives me time to start on my scratch built fire truck and finish the 113 , if Academy would just send me those replacement tracks.

No, dang it, I didn't. Guess I didn't read that part of the toursit brochure! I'll need to go appologize. Hmmm, maybe they'd take the goat entrails I'd intended to used as the sacrifice to the wingy thingy modeling god at the start of the cross over build!

Bill,
I admire your courage in first contact with the aircraft 'natives'. They seem friendly. Did you offer them beads or something to gain trust?

Chris, Nope, hasn't started yet. Still waitin' for sometime in July, I think. We're all just gettin' ready, Pardner!

Joe, I took a couple of pics of my 51. I will go post them in the Wingy Thingy forum. (I'd post them here, but I might get sanctioned from the dark side!!) LOL
