                        Joe, if you really want to use Squadron Green, you might try mixing a little liquid cement with the putty. It will give it a little more work time. Needless to say, it will make it thinner, too and you don't want it to run. You will have to expirement with it to come up with any kind of a ratio as I've never done it.

                        Joe,
                        I know you think that harmless little Me109 will be tough and even harder with the PE and dopey flat resin wheel, but Holy Cow, you're taking on a lot here.
                        I never tried either yet, but Zimm and Indies seem to be the bain of the Armor world.
                        This should be a good group build.

                        Asuf, getting zimm to look good isn't nearly as tough as getting an NMF to look good. Take my word for it!

                        btw, I resanded my 1/72 p-51 wingy thingy over the weekend and reshot the aluminum over it. I don't think it came out too bad. I'll post a pic tonight (maybe) in the AF forum and see what everyone thinks of it.

                        I "tried" foiling the canopy on a Wildcat as a mask for spraying the framwork. It left a bad residue all over the "glass". I haven't been able to get it off yet. I sprayed Metalizer Aluminum Plate on the little wingy thingy guy. I missed a lot of seam filling and rescribing (and you guys are worried about scribing zimmerit!! Ha!) I'll let you be the judge.

                        I tried foiling the 51 first, but gave up on that. Have to try it agian sometime. Hmmm, maybe I could foil a tank! That would be interesting! lol

                        So I guess this rodeo has started huh. Well I figured that before I jumped into a nice expensive kit I would do a trial run on a cheaper kit and get it built so I can hang it up in my boy's room so they will quit buggin me to get it built for them. Only have really spent about an hour and a half on it so far.
                        Biggest thing that I have had trouble with is the decals, they are thick and a pain to get to stick. Plus there were a few that just basically disentigrated when i was trying to get them on top of the wings and at the same time messed up the paint. So looks llike a bit more painting now.
                        I am going to try to get paints needed for the Dauntless this Fri and get to work on it over the week end.

                        Oh yea, so how is the posting for this build going to work, are the armor regulars going to keep it in the armor forum and the same for the plane regulars keep it in thier forum , or is there going to be a mutual thread for everyone to post in? If I missed this before somewhere , feel free to ignore me Big Smile [:D]

                        I just posted the pics of my P-51 in the AC forum. Man, did I feel like a fish out of water. I'm really amazed at how uncomforatable I felt. Call for the white coat dudes!! I've lost it!

                        July sounds good to me. Gives me time to start on my scratch built fire truck and finish the 113 , if Academy would just send me those replacement tracks.

                        Nice T-bolt...did you hear all the tiger guys shudder??? I did. I am starting tomorrow on my 1:35 Acadamy Tiger something or another...actually buying tomorrow so I'll tell ya all then what I got.
                        I grabbed a buncha those tiger links posted somewhere else here.

                        i took a very good look at the king tiger last night, took it to work, very nice kit. although there is no interior to speak of. i guess that means i have it closed. as far as the zimmerit i think i am going to give it a shot. i think using squadron green and a comb, the ones that come from like barbie doll kits, would work. i am going to wait however until i get the right paints to begin this beast.

                        Ooo that reminds me...before I get my tiger, are the different tiger, during different years in different colors. I seen those Tigers that are in thet gray color...looks sweet. What would be a good guilde line for the different tigers, in different years to there paint and camo colors.

                        If you're set on the grey, you have to go with an early production Tiger I. They started sending them out of the factory in Dunkelgelb (that's dark yellow to a flyboy) soon after and that was the base for all the camo patterns.
                        You'll find plenty of early kits, Tamiya makes a real nice one. You also escape the Zimmerit dilemma with an early.

                        Well, it looks like I will have to join the fun. I've always wanted to build a tank. I started building one once but got discouraged when my brother sat on it and completely desytroyed it.Grumpy [|(]Censored [censored]Sad [:(] So its been all wingy things since then.

                        Don't know what I'll build, but I'll have a look at some kits and see what looks interesting and isn't to expensive. I will probably require lots of help from the folks in armor land.

                        I am ready for the embarassment of ruining a kit. It won't be the first time either.Sigh [sigh]

                        I'll be back with some details of what I'm building later.

                        What kit is it? 24's seem to be hard to come by, at the moment! I think I've got an old Airfix or MPC in a box in the garage!

                        Be careful with this, Joe. I'm afraid the putty will stick to the plastic comb and get all gummed up. I think you'd wind up pulling all the putty off in big troughs.

                        Make sure when you put the putty on to keep it really thin (in depth, not consistency). Sometimes I would scrap a little off my "pallet" onto my scribe tool and trowel it on with that, holding the tool at a shallow angle so that the putty would get applied and scribed at the same time. Then I'd go back and put the verticle marks in the putty.

                        Hey Bill I got a liberator half built if you want it. Its the pro modeler,around 7 years old. though the kit is older I think.It was to be the Pink B$#ch,but lost interst forlack of room.

                        I've got both the Monogram Kits.. D and G I think...don't know my Planes..ones Silver and ones Green...
